I PAID TOO MUCH FOR THIS VEHICLE AND EVERY DEALER I TAKE IT (TAKING IT 3 TIMES) TELL ME NISSAN REQUIRES THE DATA FROM THE COMPUTER TO DIAGNOSE. YOU CAN LOOK ON THE COMPUTER AND SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND EVERY DEALERSHIP DRIVES MY CAR FOR MILES AND WASTES MY GAS - TO COME BACK AND SAY....SORRY I BELIEVE YOU BUT I NEED THE DATA AND AT THIS TIME ITS NOT DOING IT(SORRY CALL CONSUMER AFFAIRS). THIS IS MY FIRST NISSAN AND I AM HEATED... HOW CAN A COMPANY DO THIS TO ITS CONSUMERS WHO SPEND A GOOD AMOUNT OF MONEY ON THEIR PRODUCT THAT HAS ALOT OF DEFECTS. NISSAN NEEDS TO DO WHATS RIGHT AND TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS- I PROMISE IF THIS SPUTTERING HAPPENS AND CAUSES ME AN ACCIDENT WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR - THERE IS GOING TO BE HECK TO PAY!!!! I BOUGHT THIS CAR BECAUSE I WANTED A SAFE RELIABLE VEHICLE... I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!!! *TR

I HAD COMPLAINED TO TROPHY NISSAN, PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE, WELLS FARGO, AND PLATINUM COLLISION ABOUT THE VERY PROBLEM THAT I JUST RECEIVED A RECALL ABOUT. MY COMPLAINTS WERE TREATED AS NOT HAVING MERIT. I HAD SPECIFICALLY DESCRIBED THE SEEMINGLY LOSS OF CONTROL ON PAVEMENT THAT WAS SLIGHTLY ROUGH. I ALSO ASSERTED THAT WHEN I APPLIED BRAKES THE PATHFINDER SEEMED TO LUNGE FORWARD. IN THIS ACCIDENT I WAS THE INTERSTATE NEAR DOWNTOWN DALLAS MOVING ONE LANE TO MY LEFT AS TRAFFIC SLOWED AND STOPPED. I WAS AWARE OF THE SLOWING TRAFFIC AND I REACTED ACCORDINGLY. AS TRAFFIC ACTUALLY STOPPED I RECALL NOT BEING OVERLY CONCERNED THAT I WAS A SAFE STOPPING DISTANCE BUT WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE MY PATHFINDER SEEMED TO LUNGE FORWARD AND I STRUCK THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I AGAIN STATED MY CONCERNS AFTER THE FACT AND WAS NOT DEEMED ACCURATE. THE PATHFINDER SPENT 2 MONTHS IN THE SHOP WAITING ON PARTS AND MY INSURANCE PREMIUM DOUBLED. I REFUSED TO PAY THE ELEVATED PREMIUM BECAUSE I SIMPLY DID NOT HAVE IT AND I DID NOT MAKE ANY PAYMENTS ON THE PATHFINDER TO WELLS FARGO DURING THE 2 MONTHS AND THE PATHFINDER HAS SUBSEQUENTLY BEEN REPOSSESSED DO I HAVE ACTIONABLE RECOURSE?? WHAT'S NEXT WITH THIS COMPLAINT?? I TRIED IN VAIN TO GET PROGRESSIVE TO RECOGNIZE A DIMINISHED VALUE CLAIM. THIS COULD HAVE SAVED ME MONEY AND MY CAR AS THE WRECK WAS TRULY NOT MY FAULT BUT IT WAS RULED MY FAULT BECAUSE I WAS THE REAR VEHICLE AND TEXAS HAS NO DIMINISHED VALUE FOR INSURED BEING AT FAULT. TRIED IN VAIN TO GET WELLS FARGO TO HELP ME BUT ALL PARTIES WERE SCARED TO DEATH OF PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF PLATINUM COLLISION. THEIR ONLY STANDING IN THIS CASE IS AS THE BODY SHOP APPROVED BY PROGRESSIVE. *TR

MY TRANSMISSION BEGAN SLIPPING, THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED IT DISTINCTLY. THE OTHER TIMES HAD BEEN GOING UP HILLS OR SLOWING DOWN. I CAME WITHIN A COUPLE OF FEET FROM REAR-ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE MY CAR DIDN'T SHIFT DOWNWARD AT A STOP LIGHT. A MINUTE LATER I HAD TO PULL OVER BECAUSE MY CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT INTO 3RD GEAR (AUTOMATIC). THIS SAME THING HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES, I TOOK IT IN TO NISSAN THEY PUT A STOP-GAP FIX, A "MODULATOR" ON IT. THEY ALREADY HAD REPORTS KNOWING THAT WASN'T GOING TO FIX IT, BUT DID IT ANYWAY. NISSAN DIDN'T TEST DRIVE IT, JUST GAVE IT BACK TO ME. I DROVE IT LESS THAN 2 MILES & TURNED AROUND, THEY KEPT MY VEHICLE FOR 5 WEEKS, PUT IN A REFURBISHED TRANSMISSION (IN MY NEW CAR). THE TRANSMISSION IS STARTING TO SLIP, AGAIN. THEY TOLD ME I COULD GET COMPENSATION, BUT LIED. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE IT, BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! WE CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS IS A LEMON AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED! THE VALUE HAS ALREADY STARTED TO DROP MORE THAN $10,000. I SPENT SEVERAL DAYS AND LOTS OF GAS MONEY DRIVING UP TO PICK UP MY CAR, THAT WASN'T READY! THE REPAIR SHOP WAS NICE, BUT THE CORPORATE OFFICES LIED AND WERE DISRESPECTFUL EVERY TIME. *TR

PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT KEEPS GOING ON WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SIT AND NOT SITTING IN THE SEAT ( PERSON IS AT THE WEIGHT LIMIT AND SITTING CORRECTLY).HAD THE CAR TO THE DEALER SHIP THREE TIMES INCLUDING ONCE FOR THE RECALL OF THIS ISSUE. THEY CAN NOT SEEM TO FIX THE ISSUE AND HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO FIX WITH MULTIPLE CALLS TO THE NISSAN TECH HOTLINE, THEY REPLACED THE SENSORS AT LEAST EVERY TIME. THIS IS STARTING TO BE A BIG SAFETY ISSUE AND WHO KNOWS IF THE AIR BAG WILL EVEN WORK WHEN NEEDED. THEY COULD NEVER DUPLICATE THE ISSUE WHEN I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER, BUT I GO ARMED WITH PICTURES ANYMORE. I HAVE OWNED MANY NISSANS AND THIS IS THE FIRST ONE THAT HAS GIVEN ME AN ISSUE. I EVEN TURNED TO NISSAN DIRECTLY AND OPENED COMPLAINTS WITH THIS ISSUE, IT SEEMS LIKE THEY JUST GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR ANYTHING BUT JUST A CAR THAT WORKS, I BOUGHT A NEW CAR AND WANT A NEW CAR. IF I WANTED A CAR WITH THESE TYPE OF ISSUES I WOULD OF BOUGHT A USED ONE. NISSAN NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING WITH THIS PROBLEM IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GET HURTS OR DIES. THEN WHO'S GOING TO PAY FOR IT? I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THESE ISSUES! *TR

THE SHUDDERING STOPPED AFTER A COUPLE SECONDS AND I WAS ABLE TO LEAVE THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT SAFELY. (VEHICLE HAS SHUDDERED WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT THREE TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH.) 2. PULLED INTO A ROUNDABOUT AT 15 MPH AND THE ENGINE SHUDDERED, JERKING THE PATHFINDER BACK AND FORTH. WHEN EXITING THE ROUNDABOUT AT NEARLY 20 MPH THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED AGAIN FOR A COUPLE SECONDS, BUT THIS TIME IT WAS NOT A VIOLENT -- IT ONLY VIBRATED THE VEHICLE. (VEHICLE HAS SHUDDERED WHILE TURNING AT LEAST 12 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH.) 3. AFTER TURNING RIGHT ONTO A STRAIGHT STREET AND TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THE ENGINE FELT AS IF HALF THE POWER WERE TAKEN AWAY. THE ENGINE REVVED UP, BUT THE ACCELERATION WAS WEAK. (THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN A MONTH.) *TR

THE INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP UPON PURCHASE. THE MILAGE ON THE CAR AT THAT TIME WAS 290 MI. THE CAR WENT INTO A BUCKING/JERKING/LUNGING WHEN WE STARTED TO ACCELERATE FROM A 35 MPH ZONE TO A 55 MPH. OVER THE NEXT DAYS AND WEEKS IT CONTINUED TO OCCUR WHILE ACCELERATING AND ALSO WHILE MAINTAINING CONSISTENT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT ALSO REGULARLY EXPERIENCED A RUMBLE STRIP FEEL/SOUND WHEN ACCELERATING OFF A STOP WHEN TRAVELING 20-40 MPH. AT FIRST IT HAPPENED EVERY FEW DAYS BUT WITHIN A MONTH BECAME A NEARLY DAILY EXPERIENCE. NISSAN ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION, BUT HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIX OUR VEHICLE AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. ABOUT A MONTH AFTER OWNING THE VEH, THEY PERFORMED A COMPUTER UPDATE TO ATTEMPT TO FIX BUT THE FIX FAILED. A MONTH AFTER THAT THEY REPLACED THE TORQUE CONVERTER TO ATTEMPT TO FIX. THAT FIXED THE JERKING/BUCKING/LUNGING BUT THE RUMBLE STRIP SHUDDER STILL PERSISTS AT RANDOM TIMES WHEN ACCELERATING AROUND 20-40 MPH. IT HAPPENS DAILY FOR A WEEK OR SO... SOMETIMES ONCE A DAY, SOMETIMES MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY... THEN IT WON'T DO IT FOR A WEEK OR SO... THEN IT RETURNS AGAIN IN THE SAME PATTERN. OUR VEHICLE NOW HAS ABOUT 8200 MILES AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. NISSAN HAS FAILED TO FIX OUR CAR DESPITE AN ONGOING TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. *TR

22V420000 · Latches/locks/linkages:hood:latch

Jun 13, 2022

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Pathfinder vehicles. On certain Pathfinder vehicles, the secondary hood latch may malfunction and remain in the unlatched, unsecured, position when the hood is closed.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An unsecured hood could unexpectedly open while driving, obstructing the driver's view, and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the bell crank assembly, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 26, 2025. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall are R22A2 R22A3 and R24B7.

Jan 20, 2021

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles. The location of the brake light switch may cause the brake light switch relay to repeatedly open and close. Overtime, this can cause the relay to stick in the "ON" position, with the brake lights remaining illuminated even when the brakes are not applied. Additionally, this may interfere with the brake-shift interlock, allowing the driver to shift the vehicle out of the "Park" position, without depressing the brake pedal.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Continual illumination of the brake lights can prevent other drivers from realizing the vehicle is actually slowing down, increasing the risk of a crash. With the brake override activated, the driver will not be able to accelerate normally, increasing the risk of a crash. The driver can shift the vehicle out of the "PARK" position without depressing the brake, allowing the vehicle to rollaway, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, either re-install the brake light switch or swap positions with the Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) switch; depending on the model year vehicle. In addition, the brake light relay will be replaced with a new one. All repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began March 1, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall PC786. Note: this recall supersedes 16V-380.

May 31, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Pathfinder vehicles manufactured June 20, 2012, to June 13, 2013. The brake light switch may have been installed incorrectly causing the relay to make intermittent contact and repeatedly cycle. This may result in the relay remaining in the "ON" position, causing the brake lights to remain illuminated even when the brakes are not applied. Additionally, the brake light switch may interfere with the brake-shift interlock, allowing the driver to shift the vehicle out of the "Park" position, without depressing the brake pedal.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the brake override is activated, the driver will not be accelerate normally, increasing the risk of a crash. If the brake lights remain illuminated, other drivers may fail to stop when the vehicle actually brakes, increasing the risk of a crash. If the driver inadvertently shift the vehicle out of the "PARK" position without depressing the brake, the vehicle may rollaway, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake light switch and, as necessary, replace the relay, free of charge. The recall began on July 25, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

Apr 26, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

Remedy: Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, Infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Latches/locks/linkages:hood:latch

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this preliminary evaluation to investigate consumer complaints alleging hood latch failures occurring on certain model year (MY) 2013-2016 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles. Complaints received indicated a sudden and unexpected opening of the hood while the vehicle was in motion, blocking the driver's visibility.During this investigation Nissan collected parts from the field to analyze for root cause of the alleged failures. On June 13, 2022, Nissan submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) to NHTSA regarding a hood bell crank assembly defect in certain MY2013-2016 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles produced at the Smyrna, TN plant. According to Nissan's DIR, an accumulation of dust and dirt contamination on and around the bell crank lever pivot joint, which actuates the secondary hood latch, can create a condition that can cause the lever to remain in the open position after it has been disengaged. In this condition, the secondary hood latch may not hold the hood closed as designed while the vehicle is in motion obstructing the driver's forward view and increasing the risk of a crash.A remedy plan for all affected vehicles is currently under development. See recall action 22V-420 for further details. Nissan's action resolves the issues raised by this investigation, and therefore, this investigation is closed. The VOQs cited above can be found with ID numbers: 11456378, 11448298, 11436637, 11431131, 11427702, 11423321, 11406574, 11398825, 11389741, 11387952, 11375938, 11349105,11306735, 11302647, 11190468, 11166607.

In April 2014, Nissan North America launched Safety Recall 14V-138 to address problems with the Occupant Classification System (OCS) algorithm in the following vehicles: model year (MY) 2013-2014 Nissan Altima, Pathfinder, Sentra and LEAF; MY 2013 Infiniti JX35; MY 2014 Infiniti QX60 and Q50; and MY 2013 Nissan NV 200/Taxi vehicles.According to Nissan, the OCS may misclassify adult front passenger occupants and turn off the passenger's frontal air bag for an adult occupant of sufficient weight.In March 2015, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query after the agency received approximately 124 complaints alleging problems with the OCS after the recall repairs and/or other OCS related repairs were made by Nissan/Infiniti dealers.The majority of the complaints alleged the passenger air bag status light stays on (i.e., indicating passenger air bag is turned off) for adult front passengers of sufficient weight.Many of the complaints stated the dealers have made multiple repairs but the problem still persists.In its June 2015 response to ODI's information request under the Recall Query, Nissan provided approximately 1,121 complaints and field reports on the recalled vehicles.These reports alleged OCS issues similar to the NHTSA reports described above.At this time, NHTSA has received a total of approximately 208 complaints (note: total of 1,271 reports shown in the table above eliminates 58 duplicative reports received by ODI and manufacturer).This Recall Query has been upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA15-004) to conduct a comparative assessment and further evaluate the effectiveness of the recall remedy which will include a thorough review of the countermeasures taken by Nissan and its suppliers.The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers:10583283 10585264 10585349 10585379 10592434 10593399 10593501 10594329 10594614 10594755 10595161 10595645 10595946 10596128 10596459 10596952 10597037 10597452 10597518 10597719 10598537 10598869 10604755 10604834 10605188 10605251 10606565 10606828 10607038 10609649 10610519 10610991 10614467 10614609 10614745 10616905 10617008 10617507 10617903 10618099 10618202 10619059 10619563 10620719 10621840 10622214 10625808 10625981 10625998 10626006 10626023 10626335 10626458 10626732 10628355 10629382 10629460 10629606 10630441 10630502 10630990 10632251 10632588 10632934 10632997 10633714 10633810 10637994 10638591 10639040 10639147 10639324 10639473 10643046 10643843 10644203 10644333 10644341 10644690 10644891 10644985 10648834 10648997 10649414 10649772 10649874 10651360 10651564 10651924 10651982 10652024 10658665 10658844 10659484 10660294 10661195 10661358 10661541 10661795 10661855 10662901 10663033 10663338 10663860 10663978 10668054 10668768 10670538 10672807 10673088 10676471 10678478 10678997 10679512 10680748 10680769 10680975 10681656 10682235 10682902 10682993 10683391 10683689 10689672 10689809 10689981 10691626 10692137 10692558 10692625 10693168 10695312 10700614 10700960 10701008 10701011 10701014 10701018 10701023 10701027 10701031 10701032 10701035 10701045 10701055 10701064 10701074 10701146 10701196 10701228 10701237 10701254 10701301 10701306 10701326 10701367 10701370 10701384 10701415 10701453 10701526 10701558 10701656 10701670 10701946 10702003 10702667 10702798 10703032 10703657 10703766 10703813 10704196 10704988 10705530 10705919 10706621 10712543 10712568 10712575 10713335 10714316 10714330 10714536 10714980 10715132 10715945 10717336 10720918 10720971 10721331 10721746 10723424 10724568 10731167 10731868 10732012 10732065

On March 25, 2014, Nissan North America (Nissan) submitted a Defect Information Report to NHTSA describing a defect of inadequate hose clamping force that may result in the internal transmission oil cooler (ITOC) hose detaching from the cooler.According to Nissan, transmission fluid leakage from a detached ITOC hose results in a progressive series of symptoms beginning with malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illumination, followed by noise and vibration and culminating in loss of power due to transmission failure. Many of the incident vehicle drivers interviewed by ODI indicated that the loss of power occurred soon after the first symptoms were observed. The recall covers approximately 3,065 Pathfinder vehicles built from the start of MY 2013 production on April 18, 2012, through October 3, 2012, when Nissan implemented several production improvements to address concerns with ITOC hose detachment.Infiniti JX vehicles investigated in PE13-029 are not included in the recall as they are equipped with a different CVT transmission with a lower operating pressure.Owners of all potentially affected vehicles will be notified within 60 days to take their vehicles to a Nissan dealer. The dealer will install an oil hose repair kit at no charge to owners.ODI's analysis of failure data for the 3,065 Pathfinder vehicles that are included in Nissan's recall identified 12 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs), 134 Nissan complaints and field reports and 259 warranty claims. This equates to a complaint/field report rate of 47.6 incidents per thousand vehicles (IPTV) and a warranty claim rate of 8.5 percent. The failure rates for the 120,474 subject vehicles that are not included in the recall are much lower, with complaint rates of 0.4 and 0.8 IPTV and warranty claim rates of 0.1 and 0.2 percent for the remaining MY 2013 Pathfinder and JX vehicles, respectively. This investigation is closed. The VOQ numbers associated with this closing are: 10558389, 10556011, 10546402, 10545032, , 10531793, 10509314, 10507077, 10503884, 10500834, 10499362, 10497685, 10496606, 10494583, 10493759, 10493701, 10490959.
