TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 MERCEDES-BENZ GLE63W4S. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE FAILURES AFTER BEING PURCHASED IN APRIL OF 2016. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE COOLANT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. BIG ISLAND HONDA KONA (75-5608 KUAKINI HIGHWAY, KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII 96740, (808) 329-8101) REPAIRED THE ENGINE COOLANT SENSOR, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. FURTHERMORE, THE "CHECK BATTERY FOR KEY" MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE KEY FOBS WERE REPLACED THREE TIMES BY THE SAME DEALER. UPON TURNING THE IGNITION, THE TURN SIGNAL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL CAP WAS DEFECTIVE AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL CAP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO FORMAL DIAGNOSTIC TESTING PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V272000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND STATED THAT THE PART FOR THE RECALL REPAIR WOULD NOT BECOME AVAILABLE ON THE ISLAND OF HAWAII FOR FOUR MONTHS. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An inaccurate vehicle location may delay emergency responders, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: MBUSA has initiated an Over the Air (OTA) remote update. MBUSA will also notify owners, and dealers will check software for a successful OTA or update the communication module software as needed, free of charge. The recall began December 23, 2019. In certain driving conditions, if the oil level in the ACS reservoir is below the minimum level, the oil may foam and leak out of the vent holes in the reservoir cap.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: The leaking oil in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.
Remedy: MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will correct the oil level as necessary and replace the reservoir sealing cap to prevent oil foam from leaking out, free of charge. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If water enters the power steering control unit, the power steering assist may be deactivated, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the connector and inspect the electric power steering rack, replacing the rack as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed June 30, 2017.
