MY VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN OFF COMPLETELY OFF WHEN I PARK IT. THE ENGINE WILL STOP BUT ALL THE PANELS AND RADIO WILL CONTINUE TO GO. SOMETIMES I HAVE HAD TO TRY FOR OVER 20 MINUTES TO GET IT TO SHUT COMPLETELY DOWN. MY SPOUSE'S MAZDA AND DAUGHTER'S MAZDA ARE DOING THE SAME THING. IT'S VERY FRUSTRATING.

DEALER KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM OCCURRING IN MAZDA6. $400 TO REPLACE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY. THEY SUGGEST I SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL W/ BRAKES ON TO TURN OFF ENGINE, THEN SHIFT TO PARK. PROBLEM WITH SHIFT CONTROL/PARK SWITCH.. CAR WOULD BE IN A STATIONARY POSITION AND IGNITION WOULD BE SHUT DOWN. INTERIOR CONTROLLED ITEMS (I.E. RADIO, HEAT/AIR SYSTEM, LIGHTING, ETC. WOULD REMAIN ON AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. I WOULD ATTEMPT TO START/RESTART VEHICLE TO SEE IF THE CAR (AND ALL SYSTEMS) WOULD SHUT DOWN - THEY WOULD NOT. ONLY WAY I COULD COMPLETELY TURN OFF THE CAR AND ALL SYSTEMS WAS TO PLACE THE CAR IN REVERSE OR DRIVE MODE AND THEN PUT THE CAR BACK IN THE PARK POSITION. THIS OPTION WORKED FOR A SHORT WHILE AND THEN IT STOPPED WORKING. MY BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DRAINED AND I ENDED UP REPLACING MY CAR BATTERY AND ULTIMATELY I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR INTO AN AUTHORIZED MAZDA DEALER TO HAVE THE GEAR PARK SWITCH BUTTON REPLACED. DEALER STATED THEY HAD NUMEROUS CUSTOMERS THAT EXPERIENCE SAME PROBLEM AND RESOLUTION. I CHECKED ONLINE AND SAW MANY CUSTOMERS ALSO EXPERIENCED SAME PROBLEM AND SAME NECESSARY REPAIR TO THE VEHICLE. BATTERY REPLACEMENT WAS APPROXIMATELY $130.00 AND THE GEAR/PARK SWITCH REPAIR WORK WAS $245.37. I HAVE A COPY OF THE INVOICE FOR THE REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR WORK, BUT AM UNABLE TO SCAN.
OFTEN WHEN SHUTTING OFF THE CAR, THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF BUT THE IGNITION AND AUXILIARY POWER REMAIN ON. THERE IS A MESSAGE ON THE DASH REQUESTING TO SHIFT LEVER TO P (PARK) BUT THE LEVER IS ALREADY POSITIONED IN P. IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF P TO GET THE CAR TO COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ALL POWER.

Official recalls
417V393000 · Parking Brake
Jun 22, 2017
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Mazda6 and 2014-2016 Mazda3 vehicles. Water could possibly enter the brake caliper causing the parking brake actuator shaft to corrode and possibly bind.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If the parking brake actuator shaft binds, the parking brake may not engage or disengage fully. If the parking brake does not engage properly, the vehicle may move unexpectedly if it is parked on a slope, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will check the parking brake actuator shafts, replacing any that are corroded, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed August 24, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 1217F.
14V675000 · Tires:pressure Monitoring And Regulating Systems
Oct 27, 2014
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured October 25, 2012, to October 10, 2014. If the pressures of four of the tires on an affected vehicle gradually drop at the same time, the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) may not warn the driver of the drop in pressure. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring System."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A vehicle that is driven with under inflated tires may experience a sudden tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will update the TPMS software, free of charge. The recall began on December 10, 2014. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500.
14V170000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:storage:tank Assembly
Apr 3, 2014
Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2014 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured October 25, 2012, through May 9, 2013. In the affected vehicles, it is possible to fill the fuel tank beyond its rated capacity.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If the tank is overfilled, gas may flow into the charcoal canister (an evaporative emissions component) and possibly leak from the canister's external vent, increasing the risk of a fire.
Remedy: Mazda will notify owners and dealers will inspect and add an adapter to the shut off valve in the fuel tank and also inspect the charcoal canister for the presence of gasoline, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 19, 2014. Owners may contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 7414D.
14V173000 · Electrical System:alternator/generator/regulator
Apr 3, 2014
Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2014 Mazda3 vehicles manufactured June 12, 2013, through December 18, 2013, and model year 2014-2015 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured May 20, 2013, through December 4, 2013, and both equipped with a 2.5L engine and a regenerative engine braking system. When driving the affected vehicles in heavy rain or in deep puddles, the alternator belt may slip causing the Power Control module (PCM) to incorrectly assume failure of the charging system.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Once the PCM assumes that the charging system has failed, the vehicle will stop charging and could result in poor acceleration, loss of steering assist and windshield wiper operation, and a possible engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the PCM with updated software, free of charge. The recall began on May 19, 2014. Owners may contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 7314D.
