I have a 2024 Mazda CX-90. I want to report that about two years ago I was contacted regarding a recall (or possibly multiple recalls). The steering would become stiff while turning on curves. I took the vehicle to the dealer, and they reprogrammed something, which fixed the issue for a few months (I don’t remember exactly how long). However, the same problem happened again about three times. I brought the vehicle back to the dealer on January 23, 2026, and they did not have the necessary parts to repair it. I told them I was very afraid to drive the vehicle in that condition because the steering would get stuck when turning on curves, and I was worried that one day it could cause a serious or even fatal accident. The dealer told me they could not do anything at that time. It took 65 days for them to replace the parts, and it was very stressful driving under those conditions. Even after the repair, the vehicle does not feel right. I feel that the steering still moves abnormally, and I am very afraid to drive it like this. Additionally, the brakes sometimes make a strange noise. I don’t know what to do about this situation. I would like to return the vehicle, but I don’t know how, especially since the dealer is no longer responsible. I need help. Incident 1: While driving my 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV at low-to-moderate speed, the vehicle suddenly and completely locked up without any driver input. There was no gradual slowing or normal braking behavior. Instead, the vehicle went immediately from moving to an abrupt, forceful stop, as if maximum braking was applied instantly. There were no warning lights, alerts, or audible signals before or during the event, and there were no obstacles or vehicles in front of me. Incident 2 (approximately 6 months later): A second, nearly identical event occurred while I was accelerating or cruising. The vehicle again immediately locked up and came to a sudden stop with no warning and no driver input. There was no progressive braking or deceleration. The stop was instantaneous and extremely forceful, causing me to lurch forward into the steering wheel. There were no hazards or objects present that would justify emergency braking. Additional Details: Both events involved an immediate, full-force stop with no transition or gradual braking. There were no dashboard alerts, warning sounds, or messages during either incident. The behavior did not match any known system alerts (such as door open or limp mode). The dealership was unable to reproduce the issue and found no diagnostic trouble codes. This creates a serious safety risk, especially the risk of being rear-ended during normal driving.

The service brake system on my 2024 Mazda CX-90 produces a loud, high-pitched squeaking noise during normal low-speed braking, including when stopping at traffic lights, reversing, and parking. The issue has been present and occurs daily under normal driving conditions. The brake pads and rotors are available for inspection upon request. The squeaking reduces my confidence in braking performance and causes me to alter my braking behavior, particularly in stop-and-go traffic and when braking near pedestrians. In a vehicle used daily for family transportation, unreliable or degraded brake performance puts my safety and the safety of my passengers and other road users at risk. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by an authorized Mazda dealership. On February 25, 2026, I brought the vehicle to Gunther Mazda for this issue. The dealer attempted to address the brake noise at no charge but acknowledged this is a known issue related to the brake pad material and stated no permanent repair is currently available. A copy of the repair receipt from this visit is available. I also contacted Mazda Motor of America directly. A case manager was assigned and confirmed the issue is known across the CX-90 model. Mazda offered a $250 service credit but provided no repair or resolution. Mazda issued Service Alert SA-016/24 (Brake Noise, Judder and Dragging Diagnosis and Servicing) acknowledging brake noise, judder, and dragging on the CX-90 and other models. Despite this bulletin, the dealer repair attempt has not resolved the issue. There are no warning lamps or dashboard messages associated with this condition. The squeaking began at low mileage and has persisted continuously since first noticed. The issue is not intermittent; it occurs with regularity during routine braking.

Reporting multiple safety-related defects on my 2024 Mazda CX-90. Steering system: At approximately 5,000 miles, the vehicle developed abnormal steering behavior, including inconsistent steering response and abnormal feel during normal driving and turning. The condition affected my ability to steer the vehicle predictably and raised safety concerns, particularly during low-speed turns, parking maneuvers, and city driving. The issue was confirmed by the dealer and required replacement of the steering rack, a major steering component. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. Hybrid system: At approximately 22,000 miles, the vehicle experienced a hybrid system malfunction that required the vehicle to be taken out of service for an extended period. The malfunction affected drivability and reliability and required dealer diagnosis and repair. The vehicle was inspected and repaired by an authorized Mazda dealer. Braking system: The vehicle has experienced ongoing abnormal brake squeaking during normal driving and low-speed braking. While braking function remains present, the abnormal noise raises concerns about brake system integrity, wear, and long-term braking performance. Electrical / infotainment system: The infotainment system intermittently shuts off or resets while driving without warning. When this occurs, the display goes blank and then restarts. This results in loss of access to navigation, rear camera display, vehicle settings, and driver-assistance information, creating driver distraction and a potential safety risk. These issues occurred on a relatively new vehicle and involve critical systems including steering, drivetrain/hybrid, brakes, and vehicle electronics. The combination of defects raises concerns about vehicle safety, reliability, and loss of driver confidence. The contact owned a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, a clunking noise would emit from underneath the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the control arm had failed. The vehicle had been repaired. The contact stated 3 days later while driving approximately 35 -45 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. In addition, the vehicle was attempted to be veered to the left or right and it failed to drive in either direction. As a result, the vehicle crashed into the rear-ended of the vehicle in front. The air bags deployed. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. The contact stated that the other party's vehicle was damaged and towed away. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a left leg, right arm, shoulder, wrist, and neck injuries that required medical attention via hospital. The contact's wife was seated in the passenger seat at the time of the crash and sustained injuries to the right shoulder, wrist, and both the left and right foot's toes that required medical attention via hospital. The contact was unsure of any injuries to the occupants of the other vehicle. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V349000 (Forward Collision Avoidance) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer had been made aware of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was 23,209. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Some steering and suspension bolts may be missing or improperly tightened, which can cause the steering intermediate shaft, the front anti-lock brake system wheel speed sensor harnesses, or the front upper control arms to detach, resulting in a loss of vehicle control.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A loss of vehicle control increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and tighten or replace the steering and suspension bolts, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 14, 2023. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 Option 6. Mazda's number for this recall is 5923F.
