MAZDA SENT A NOTICE TO OWNERS OF A SAFETY RECALL REGARDING THE RUSTPROOF COATING ON THE LIFT GATE STAY DAMPERS. THE DEFECT COULD CAUSE CORROSION THAT MAY CAUSE THE LIFT GATE TO DROP SUDDENLY. THIS NOTICE WAS SENT IN OCTOBER 2016 AND THE "REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE" ACCORDING TO THE MAZDA WEBSITE...IT IS NOW MARCH 2017. IN ANOTHER MATTER, MAZDA IS AWARE THAT THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THEIR ELECTRONICS SYSTEMS "READING" A NEW TIRE ON THE VEHICLE. THIS CAUSES THE AIR TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT TO REMAIN ON, LEAVING THE OWNER TO NOT KNOW WHEN THE TIRE(S) ACTUALLY NEED ATTENTION. WHEN BROUGHT TO A LOCAL MAZDA DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT MAZDA IS AWARE OF THE DEFECT BUT IS CURRENTLY CHARGING THE CUSTOMER TO HAVE DIAGNOSTICS RUN TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, RATHER THAN ACKNOWLEDGE IT AS A DEFECT FOR WHICH MAZDA IS RESPONSIBLE. I WAS SHOWN AN INTERNAL LETTER TO THIS EFFECT. NOT ONLY IS THIS A SAFETY ISSUE BUT THE LIGHT BEING ON ALSO PROHIBITS THE VEHICLE FROM PASSING INSPECTION IN SOME CASES. TO THAT I WAS TOLD TO JUST BRING IT THERE FOR THE INSPECTION AND "THEY WOULD PASS ME."
