Kumho 295/30 ZR20 date code 2919 Inner sidewall of passenger rear failed by separating and bulging over approximately 35% of the tire circumference. Occurred during a highway passing maneuver at 70mph and resulted in extreme vibration transmitted through vehicle and steering wheel. Resulted in difficulty controlling vehicle. Vehicle was brought to a stop on roadside shoulder and limped home at 45mph max speed.
MASERATI IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 GRANTURISMO AND QUATTROPORTE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 3, 2008, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 2008. THE REAR SUSPENSION LEFT-SIDE AND RIGHT-SIDE WHEEL ALIGNMENT TOE-IN TIE- RODS MAY FAIL DUE TO INCORRECT MACHINING.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A FAILED TIE-ROD COULD LEAD TO A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED TIE-RODS, INSTALL A TIE-ROD KIT AND PERFORM A WHEEL ALIGNMENT, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2011. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737.
