The front suspension knuckle on my 2016 Range Rover developed a visible crack, which caused severe play in the steering and made the vehicle unsafe to drive. On even small bumps, the vehicle would suddenly and forcefully pull into other lanes, creating a serious hazard. My safety, my [XXX] child’s safety, and the safety of others on the road were clearly at risk. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Land Rover dealership on January 30, 2025, where the issue was diagnosed and confirmed. I was advised not to drive the vehicle due to the danger, and it has remained parked at the dealership since that day. This issue is part of an open safety recall, but there has been no repair, no replacement part, and no loaner or rental vehicle provided to date. The vehicle has been out of service for nearly five months. There were no dashboard warning lights related to the steering, but I did receive a suspension system error message before the diagnosis. Steering instability continued to worsen leading up to the appointment. The dealership inspected and documented the cracked knuckle, and the defective part remains in the vehicle, available for inspection if needed. I am submitting this complaint due to the extended delay in addressing a known safety defect, the lack of support from the manufacturer, and the serious danger this failure presents to drivers and others on the road. The front steering knuckle on the passenger side broke causing the wheel to detach. There was loss of control of the car however I was in town and the speed was below 25 mph. Thankfully the vehicle was stopped before anyone was hurt. I had an independent service center examine the SUV and found the knuckle to be broken. The vehicle is available for inspection. There were no warning lights prior to the accident. The SUV is serviced during a yearly inspection per state requirements with the last appointment at Range Rover in December. There were no warnings to alert myself (owner) or the dealership when inspected on a regular basis. If the knuckle would have broken five minutes prior, I would have been in a serious car accident as I was traveling 65 mph on the highway.

My 2016 Range Rover has been identified in a recall for knuckle which may crack without warning leading to catastrophic failure of the vehicle which could result in injury or death of passengers. I learned of the recall in December of 2024 at which time I discontinued driving the vehicle and contacted Land Rover Rocklin to request replacement of the recalled parts. In acknowledgement of the fact that this vehicle is unsafe to drive until replacement parts can be installed, Land Rover Rocklin provided an Avis rental car. On March 5 I was notified that Land Rover Corporate might not agree to reimburse the dealer for rental expenses while I wait for the defective/recalled parts to be replaced so I was asked to trade in the rental car for a loaner vehicle from the dealership. I agreed to make this exchange. While en route to complete this vehicle exchange I was told by Land Rover Rocklin that I would need to return the rental vehicle to Avis and that they would not be providing me with a dealership loaner car per our original agreement. They further instructed me to collect and drive home my unrepaired, vehicle which had been established for the last two months it sat I their shop as "unsafe to drive." I refused this arrangement and told the dealer they needed to fulfill their agreement with me by providing me with a safe vehicle to drive while I wait for the repairs to be completed according to the recall. I contacted Land Rover Corporate to complain that my vehicle had been unavailable for nearly three months because it was deemed unsafe to drive and to complain that corporate is not taking care of its customers by providing reimbursement to dealers to ensure affected Range Rover owners have safe transportation until the recall repair work is completed. Land Rover stated they have no obligation to provide safe vehicles for affected owners and they are recommending owners drive their unrepaired vehicles despite catastrophic failure risk. Driving down the road all of a sudden, truck veers to the left. I regained control and pulled over. Found left front wheel leaning in. Upon inspection, found that spindle was broken where the ball joint meets the spindle. The metal develops a crack then separates without notice. Autoshop stated that this is Very common and has been recalled in other countries such as Canada and the UK for these vehicles. Why has this not been a forced recall in the US is beyond me. This is Very dangerous as I could have veered into incoming traffic.

After checking on the OEM site based off "Safety recall N759", I was told my Vin was not affected, However the Part at the center of the global recalls (In UK, In Canada and Partially here in the US) is LR040119 which is exactly what I have installed on mine. The vehicle has never been off-roading (despite it being well capable ) and has always been maintained at the dealership or an approved shops. Mine is indeed cracked in the same spot after a random visual inspection today and that could have been the end of not just my life, but the one of my kids as well as my partner since we had a long trip scheduled in two days.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Range Rover vehicles. The front suspension knuckles may have been replaced with incorrect parts during a prior recall remedy repair.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An incorrect suspension knuckle may not perform as expected, possibly resulting in a loss of vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the front suspension knuckles, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed October 9, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Land Rover's customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is D148.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. The driver's seat belt emergency locking retractor may not lock as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies" and 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: During hard braking before a crash, the seat belt emergency locking retractor may not lock as intended, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt assembly, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 29, 2022. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N678. This recall replaces NHTSA recall number 19V-350. Vehicles previously inspected under recall 19V-350 that did not receive a replacement seat belt assembly will need to have this new recall remedy performed.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Range Rover and 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under Recall 19V-392, however the repair may not have been completed properly. Due to a problem with the Keyless Vehicle Latching System (KV Latch), the doors may appear to be closed but may be unlatched.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Unlatched doors may open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for any issues with the KV system, disabling the KV mechanisms if necessary, and update the KV Latch software, free of charge. The recall began November 30, 2020. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Land Rover's number for this recall is N476.

Consequence: If the front seat seatbelt pretensioners do not function properly, the seat occupants may not be adequately restrained in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) is upgrading its Preliminary Evaluation (PE25006) of front steering knuckle fractures on model year (MY) 2014 through 2017 Range Rover Sport vehicles to an Engineering Analysis. ODI opened PE25006 on June 27, 2025, after receiving 12 Vehicle Owner's Questionnaire (VOQ) reports of the front aluminum steering knuckles fracturing in these vehicles. The reports describe the fractures occurring at the joint where the steering knuckle attaches to the upper control arm ball joint in one or both steering knuckles. Fracture of the front suspension knuckle can lead to detachment of the upper suspension arm. Detachment of the upper suspension arm results in the driver’s inability to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. ODI reviewed information supplied by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in response to Information Request letters as well as reviewed the data with JLR on numerous occasions. ODI further reviewed relevant data on a peer vehicle with a significantly similar steering knuckle design, the MY 2014 through 2017 Range Rover. Much of the information is contradictory and requires a deeper analysis that is available in an Engineering Analysis. On August 5, 2025, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) filed safety recall 25V514. This recall covers certain MY 2014 and all MY 2015-2017 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. The remedy for recall 25V514 addresses knuckles with and without a visible fracture. Knuckles that have developed a visible fracture will be replaced with a new knuckle of a substantially similar design. Knuckles with no fracture visibly present will have a brace attached to the upper portion of the front steering knuckle. JLR states that the purpose of the brace is to prevent the component from completely separating should a fracture develop. NHTSA continues to receive allegations of fractures occurring in the front steering knuckles of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. Two of the most recent VOQs received by ODI involve front steering knuckle fractures occurring on MY 2020 and MY 2021 Range Rover L405 vehicles. ODI will continue to investigate the component design and assess the potential safety risk as part of this Engineering Analysis and evaluate the recall remedies for Recall 25V514. Further, the scope of this Engineering Analysis will be expanded to include MY 2018-2022 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles as they have a substantially similar component design. From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. ODI has received 5 unique reports (VOQs) related to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles.
