CONSUMER STATES HAS 2012 KIA SEDONA WITH SAME ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE STOPPED FOR GAS, THE LIGHT WENT OUT, BUT THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. SHE STOPPED THE VEHICLE, TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, THEN RE-STARTED IT AGAIN. THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED WORKING AGAIN, BUT THE ESC LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE DEALER, AND WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TAILLIGHT. BOTH VEHICLES HAD AN ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. BOTH VEHICLES NEEDED A BOLT TO BE ADDED TO THE REAR AXLE ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. BUT, THE BOLT WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS NO FACTORY RETROFIT AVAILABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE OTHER WHEELS COULD BE ALIGNED WITHIN TOLERANCE, EXCEPT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE. THE DRIVERS SEAT ON BOTH VEHICLES WOULD NOT STAY UP. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PUMP ON THE 2009 SEDONA.

THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOORS ON MY 2009 KIA SEDONA IS VERY HARD TO OPEN, SOMETIMES, THE RIGHT DOOR CAN NOT BE OPENED AT ALL. THERE WAS A DOOR LATCH RECALL IN 2011, I HAD THE LATCHES ATTENDED TO, AFTERWARDS, THE DOORS WORKED FOR A WHILE AND THEN THEY STOPPED AND HAVENT WORKED SINCE. ALSO, THE AUTOMATIC FEATURE ONLY WORKED FOR 9 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD DUE TO THE DOOR NOT ALLOWING YOU TO ENTER OR EXIT IF A PROBLEM OCCURS. TO OPEN THE DOOR, YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO STICK YOUR FINGERS IN THE CREASE OUTSIDE OF THE DOOR, PULL ON THE HANDLE WHILE TUGGING ON THE DOOR EXTREMELY HARD. I BELIEVE THIS IS DANGEROUS AND A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO OR IT WOULD BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO CHECK THE PROBLEM OUT.

I BOUGHT THE CAR LAST YEAR AND IT WORKED FINE UNTIL THIS SPRING WHEN IT HAD SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN THE REAR GEAR, CAUSING A MINOR ACCIDENT. I WAS NOT SURE IT WAS THE UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION BUT THEN IT HAD TWO MORE CASES OF SUDDEN FORWARD ACCELERATION THAT CANNOT BE STOPPED BY STEPPING ON THE BRAKEBUT CAN BE STOPPED BY SHIFTING THE GEAR TO NEUTRAL. THEN THIS MORNING (06/18/2012) WHEN I BACKED OUT OF THE HOME DRIVEWAY AND PUT THE GEAR TO DRIVE, IT SUDDENLY STARTED THE ACCELERATION AGAIN. THIS TIME IT WOULDN'T STOP EVEN WITH THE GEAR QUICKLY SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL, AND KEPT ON ACCELERATING. I MANAGED TO STEER AWAY FROM COLLISIONS FOR 4 BLOCKS BUT ENDED UP HITTING A FIRE HYDRANT AND TWO SIGN POSTS, SCRAPE ANOTHER CAR, THEN FINALLY HIT THE FENCE TO STOP THE CAR. THE CAR IS TOTALED BUT FORTUNATELY NOBODY WAS HURT. OBVIOUSLY THIS CAR IS A GREAT DANGER TO PEOPLE. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY. *TR

Apr 1, 2013
Kia Motors Corporation (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Rondo, model year 2007-2011 Sedona, Sorento and Sportage, model year 2010-2011 Soul, model year 2008-2011 Optima, model year 2010 Forte, model year 2007-2009 Amanti, and model year 2009 Borrego vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Kia recalled 623,658 model year 2007-2010 Rondo and Sportage, model year 2007-2011 Sorento, model year 2007 Sedona, model year 2010-2011 Soul, and model year 2011 Optima vehicles. In September 2013, Kia informed the agency that it was adding an additional 356,719 vehicles to this campaign. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 980,377. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of PARK without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Kia will send an interim notification to owners in May 2013. When parts are available, owners will receive a second notification and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall campaign number is SC098.
