I am reporting a failure related to the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) on my Kia EV6 vehicle. The vehicle suddenly became unable to charge using Level 1 or Level 2 AC chargers. Each time the charging cable is connected, charging starts briefly and then stops within seconds with a “charging unsuccessful” warning. The issue occurs consistently across multiple chargers. However, DC fast charging (Level 3) still functions, indicating a failure specific to the onboard charging system. In addition to the charging failure, the 12-volt battery became abnormally depleted, which required external charging to prevent the vehicle from becoming completely inoperable. This raises safety concerns, as a drained 12-volt battery can disable critical vehicle systems. This appears consistent with widely reported ICCU failures affecting Kia EVs. The failure occurred without warning and has rendered the vehicle unreliable for normal use. Because the vehicle cannot charge at home or on standard public chargers, it creates a safety and mobility risk, especially if the vehicle becomes stranded due to 12-volt system failure. I am concerned that this is a systemic defect in the ICCU that impacts vehicle reliability and safety and should be investigated further.
ICCU failure at 71k miles on 2022 Kia EV6. Owned for 46 months, original owner. 12 volt battery also died when 18 months old, which left me stranded and I had to be towed to dealership Never missed a service or recall update
Unsure exactly why it happened, but I was driving in my parent's neighborhood (25 mph limit), and I heard a pop, and the next thing I saw was an electrical warning message on my dashboard. That's when I realized the issue is with the ICCU.
Heard fuse pop in back of car immediately went into turtle mode with red check electrical system warning. Dealer diagnosed as bad ICCU which also drained the 12v battery. This recall should be left open for all these ICCUs keep failing and stranding people.
I was driving to work less than a mile away from my home, when coming up to a red light my car told me to find a safe place to stop. No previously warnings or other symptoms. I was driving to work less than a mile away from my home, when coming up to a red light my car told me to find a safe place to stop. No previously warnings or other symptoms. Car just went from fine to nonfunctional in a matter of seconds. Once stopped, I had no power or any electronics. Not even hazzard lights. I was stuck at the intersection while I awaited a tow truck which had difficulty getting the car on the truck due to the complete electrical failure. Car was towed to a local Kia dealer who inspected it the next day and confirmed the ICCU was at fault. It was replaced in a couple of days and convered under warranty. 12v battery also dead but not covered by the warranty even though the faulty ICCU could have caused it to die early.
The ICCU failed after having the safety recall done on it. The car went into warning mode and I luckily had just enough time to pull it into a parking lot to get towed. another few minutes I would have been stuck on a road with no where to pull off. The dealer did replace the ICCU and said that they were familiar with the part b…

The ICCU failed after having the safety recall done on it. The car went into warning mode and I luckily had just enough time to pull it into a parking lot to get towed. another few minutes I would have been stuck on a road with no where to pull off. The dealer did replace the ICCU and said that they were familiar with the part blowing randomly on people and that Kia is aware but not making good fixes by putting in the same defective replacement units
Vehicle alerted Electric Vehicle System problem on the dashboard. Dealer determined the ICCU and a fuse needs to be replaced again. Dealer has declined to replace the ICCU under the current recall stating it was already replaced 8 months prior. Vehicle is not usable in current condition due to a faulty ICCU.
After owning this car for about 3 years now I had the ICCU blow out on me at 53k miles right before thanksgiving. This prevented my car from Level 1 / Level 2 charging and would no longer keep the 12v battery charged. this made the car drive at limited speed as the 12v would drain. I had previously taken the car to get the IC…

After owning this car for about 3 years now I had the ICCU blow out on me at 53k miles right before thanksgiving. This prevented my car from Level 1 / Level 2 charging and would no longer keep the 12v battery charged. this made the car drive at limited speed as the 12v would drain. I had previously taken the car to get the ICCU recall early in the year and obviously that "software fix" did prevent this from happening. How am I supposed to reliably drive this car unless KIA/Hyundai actually redesigns the ICCU? This is something that needs a permanent fix or at the least a lifetime warranty coverage.
Could not charge car. It kept saying Charging Interrupted. The failure was the ICCU

2PE23012 · Loss Of Motive Power
Opened Jul 3, 2023 · Closed Apr 17, 2024
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V Battery; Electrical System:propulsion System:dc/dc Converter
On July 3, 2023, the Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) opened PE23012 to investigate allegations of loss of motor power on model year (MY) 2022 Kia EV6 vehicles. Some consumers reported loss of motor power immediately after warning lamp illumination or reduction of motive power while the vehicle was in motion. This investigation found that the Integrated Charing Unit (ICCU) may become damaged over time from transient high voltage and thermal cycling. A damaged ICCU may not be able to charge the 12-volt battery which can discharge gradually while driving with a reduction of motive power. The vehicle could eventually experience a complete loss of motive power thereby increasing the risk of a crash. On July 13, 2023, Kia conducted a service campaign to inspect the ICCU and install an improved over-current detection software logic in certain 2022-2023 EV6 vehicles. On March 15, 2024, Kia filed recall 24V-200 for 48,232 MY 2022-2024 Kia EV6 vehicles. The recall remedy provides an inspection of the ICCU, and if necessary, a replacement of the ICCU and the associated fuse. The ICCU software reduces the risk of overcurrent and implements voltage peak reduction at the end of EV battery charging. The recall also includes a software update that revises the electric water pump operational threshold to reduce thermal loading during charging and driving. In view of the recall action being taken by Kia, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.
