Once again, the ICCU on the car failed requiring intervention / towing. This is the second outage of the ICCU. This issue happened in early April 2025 (April 8th I believe). My car was parked at work. I entered my car after work and turned on the car. I heard a pop from the rear passenger side identical to the issue as it had happened last January (2024). Shortly thereafter, the check electrical system warning came on. I briefly attempted to drive car to move it to where would likely be an easier spot for the purposes of towing (one parking lot over that is not gated). During that brief drive (roughly 1/4 of a mile), the car immediately began issuing warnings requesting that I pull over and stop. I entered the nearby parking lot and parked the car where it was towed the next day to the dealership.

My EV6 lost power while driving on a busy street. It went into 'Turtle Mode' which allowed me to pull off onto a side road and then all power to the car went out and the car stopped on the side road. I was honked at a couple of times while trying to get off the busy street. The tow truck driver put a power pack on the car and shifted it into neutral and was able to move the car. The dealer diagnosed this as an ICCU failure. The part required is on national backorder with no delivery specified.

On multiple occasions, while driving on the freeway, the vehicle experienced a clunking noise and complete loss of propulsion. Safety was put at risk as the vehicle had to navigate off to the shoulder of the freeway at a speed significantly slower (due to no acceleration available) than traffic with reduced braking capability. Once on the shoulder the vehicle needs to be turned off then on again then it functions as normal. Due to the intermittency of the issue, the dealer was not able to reproduce the problem, therefore they will not fix it. When the issue occurs, there are no warning messages on the display. The dealer has stated there are no error codes stored in the computer. This issue seemed to go away after an ICCU fix was applied, but came back after the ICCU recall was recently applied. On April 13, 2024, when I started my vehicle, the instrument cluster immediately flashed the following warning msg surrounded by a flashing red circle: 12V Battery Very Low Stop Safely I turned the vehicle off, waited a few seconds and when I started it again the message did not appear. I contacted KIA USA and received a Recall Inquiry Case #. On April 18th, when I started my vehicle the same 12V Battery Very Low, Stop Safely msg displayed. It did not disappear upon restarting. Within 5 mts ALL the electrics were dead, including the instrument cluster AND the parking/emergency brake control AND the Vehicle Start On/Off button. I am very fortunate I was not driving on the highway when this occurred. Ditto for other drivers. My vehicle had to be towed to my dealer/service center. The tow service jumped the 12V battery and was able to drive it up on the flatbed. Today (April 23rd), my dealer/service center representive informed by the 12V battery tested okay, and the vehicle diagnostics they ran have not revealed any issues with the vehicle electrical system. They have been unable to reproduce or confirm the problem so far. My vehicle is still at my dealer/service center. What occurred is identical to the issues identified in the NHTSA Recall No: 24V-200 & KIA Recall No: SC302.

Was driving to go pick up one of my kids later at night. Was roughly 1/2 mile from home driving about 40 mph when I heard a pop / noise on the rear passenger side. Was unsure if I had rolled over something or what. Shortly after that (few seconds later), the "Check Electrical System" came on. Since I was close to home, I elected to turn around to go home since I could conduct a fairly easy turn around near the sub-division. Before I did that, the car then noted "Limited Power" and came up with the Turtle icon. The speed was restricted to 25 mph. This continued for roughly several hundred feet. At that point, a second warning noting a critical issue came up and the speed was further restricted to 12 mph. I was able to go through the 4-way stop sign, continued to drive under the restricted speed. I was able to turn on my hazards and wave several people past me as I drove extremely slowly home (12 mph on a 35 mph road). I did arrive to my house and pulled up into the driveway where I was able to park the car. The vehicle was at roughly 65% charge when I had started the trip. As per the recommendation of the dealership, I had the vehicle towed using Kia's Roadside Assistance to the dealership the next day. The vehicle was unable to start or even turn on. The tow truck was able to use a battery pack on the 12V battery to be able to activate the car to shift it to neutral for towing.

PE23012 · Loss Of Motive Power

Opened Jul 3, 2023 · Closed Apr 17, 2024

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V Battery; Electrical System:propulsion System:dc/dc Converter

On July 3, 2023, the Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) opened PE23012 to investigate allegations of loss of motor power on model year (MY) 2022 Kia EV6 vehicles. Some consumers reported loss of motor power immediately after warning lamp illumination or reduction of motive power while the vehicle was in motion. This investigation found that the Integrated Charing Unit (ICCU) may become damaged over time from transient high voltage and thermal cycling. A damaged ICCU may not be able to charge the 12-volt battery which can discharge gradually while driving with a reduction of motive power. The vehicle could eventually experience a complete loss of motive power thereby increasing the risk of a crash. On July 13, 2023, Kia conducted a service campaign to inspect the ICCU and install an improved over-current detection software logic in certain 2022-2023 EV6 vehicles. On March 15, 2024, Kia filed recall 24V-200 for 48,232 MY 2022-2024 Kia EV6 vehicles. The recall remedy provides an inspection of the ICCU, and if necessary, a replacement of the ICCU and the associated fuse. The ICCU software reduces the risk of overcurrent and implements voltage peak reduction at the end of EV battery charging. The recall also includes a software update that revises the electric water pump operational threshold to reduce thermal loading during charging and driving. In view of the recall action being taken by Kia, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical System:propulsion System

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.
