TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 KEYSTONE COUGAR HIGH COUNTRY FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR BUMPER WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE TO CARRY THE WEIGHT OF A BIKE RACK AND ANY OTHER EQUIPMENT HOWEVER, THE BUMPER DID FRACTURE. UPDATED 03/26/2013*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE BUMPER DID NOT FALL COMPLETELY OFF.
KEYSTONE IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 COUGAR HIGH COUNTRY TRAVEL TRAILERS PRODUCED FROM NOVEMBER 3, 2010, THROUGH MAY 26, 2011, FOR HAVING 4400 POUND AXLES INSTALLED INSTEAD OF 5200 POUND AXLES. IF A VEHICLE IS LOADED TO THE MAXIMUM STATED GVWR OF 10,000 POUNDS, THE 4400 POUND AXLE WILL BE OVERLOADED.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: OVERLOADING THE AXLE COULD LEAD TO AN INCREASE RISK OF AXLE FAILURE, PROPERTY DAMAGE AND/OR VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE AXLES WITH THE CORRECT ONES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 7, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KEYSTONE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-866-425-4369.
