I purchased my 2011 Jeep Patriot as a new vehicle on [XXX] in Fort Collins, Colorado. The vehicle has been appropriately maintained with the only one major repair (throttle body) to date. On [XXX], the ABS, traction control, and brake light on the dash board lit up upon cranking the vehicle and backing out of my driveway. I dropped the vehicle off the next morning for diagnostics at a local Meineke location. The vehicle eventually threw a C2220 code, which indicates the ABS module had an internal failure. Unfortunately for me, I’ve learned that Stellantis is no longer manufacturing the part. This has resulted in an increased cost to repair since new parts are hard to find and very expensive, third-party parts are also hard to find, and companies that could repair and refurbish the part were no longer doing so due to challenges in getting the right parts for refurbishment. (I called UpFix on 8/28/26 to confirm their inability to repair the part.) My particular case is not an isolated event. Apparently this is a known issue and one that has not triggered a recall or any legal action against Jeep and their parent companies for failure to address a known defect and manufacture/reengineer known failures in their vehicles. If I was to take my vehicle back without the repair, I would be endangering myself, my young child, and the public as a result since the ABS and several other safety features are disabled due to the internal failure. Unfortunately, the repair will be costly and by no means guarantees a long-term fix (was told maybe I’d get 1-2 years before the part fails again). I received two quotes - one is for a used parts and the other is the exact same but new. The cost difference is substantial and seems like straight price gouging as a result of Stellantis’ decision to NOT continue the manufacturing of parts to fix the problem on my vehicle and many other of their brands. No dash lights, in my way to work someone cut into my(crossed solid line) lane and my vehicle hit the rear end of the vehicle that cut into my lane. Going around 55 and wearing my seatbelt, slammed on the breaks, couldn't go around without flipping my car so we collided. The front end of my car was completely destroyed and the airbags did not deploy. I am this cars second owner after my father bought it new & if he knew it would almost kill his daughter in 12 years he never would have bought it. It had no accident history and had been told the recall was fixed when it very obviously was not. We had a rep from Chrysler come and pull the crash data, and he tried to tell me there was no reason for the airbags to go off. The entire front of my car was crushed, there is no possible way they should not have triggered for the severity of the accident I was in. I smashed my head so hard on the steering wheel that I blacked out, broke my eye socket and suffered a severe concussion. I have photos/accident reports and Chrysler has the data from my car. I also think my dad has a copy of this data. I'm so so lucky I didn't die, this is absolutely a defective airbag component and something absolutely needs to be done. It's so incredibly dangerous and at this point with all of the similar incidents it would be neglectful not to open an investigation as people have died as a result of this defect.

While driving in heavy traffic, there was a Red light and attempted to slow the vehicle. The engine started to jerk forward and the RPMs were increasing without my foot on the accelerator! My foot was on the brake! I was able to turn into a gas station to get to a safer place to park the vehicle. While attempting to park in a parking space the vehicle continued to accelerate by itself, again my foot was applied to the brake pedal. I was literally fighting to stop the vehicle and almost ran into the barrier where customers were walking. Once turning off the vehicle and restarting the engine, it was operating correctly while I’m reverse. I then shifted into drive, and the vehicle lunged forward and the engine accelerated by itself. It drove up to 45 miles per hour without my foot on the accelerator and foot resting on the brake pedal. A complete stop was a fight, as soon as there was any brake pedal release the engine lunged forward.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a vehicle crash that necessitates deployment of these safety systems.

Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the OCR, free of charge. Interim letters informing owners that parts are not available yet were mailed on October 26, 2016. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH A MISSING OR INCORRECTLY INSTALLED STEERING COLUMN PIVOT RIVET.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A MISSING OR INCORRECTLY INSTALLED RIVET COULD COMPROMISE THE ABILITY OF THE STEERING COLUMN TO SUPPORT THE OCCUPANT LOADS IN THE EVENT OF A FRONTAL CRASH, DECREASING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE FRONTAL IMPACT SAFETY SYSTEM. AS A RESULT, THE CONDITION MAY INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR INJURY IN A FRONTAL CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR RIVET PRESENCE AND ALIGNMENT AND REPAIR THE STEERING COLUMN PIVOT AS REQUIRED, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 4, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

EA21002 · Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. In a letter dated April 3, 2013, Chrysler Group LLC submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) to NHTSA identifying a safety defect in the fuel delivery system in approximately 20,532 model year (MY) 2012 Jeep Patriot (11,624) and Compass (8,908) vehicles manufactured from October 18, 2011 through May 7, 2012 and equipped with certain fuel tanks produced between October 18, 2011 and January 26, 2012 (Recall 13V-120).According to Chrysler, Jeep Patriot and Compass vehicles equipped with saddle type fuel tanks built during the affected period may experience low siphoning rate through the transfer tube from the secondary to the primary side of the fuel tank.Chrysler's investigation determined that a material change by the transfer tube supplier (TI Automotive) led to malformed tubes being shipped to the final tank assembly supplier (Kautex).The malformed transfer tubes may make the siphoning process more difficult to start and maintain under certain operating conditions.Sustained driving during this condition may deplete fuel in the primary side of the fuel tank and lead to engine stall without warning.Kautex established a 100% sort on January 26, 2012 as a countermeasure for the malformed tubes being used in production.Chrysler is able to trace fuel tank build dates by vehicle identification number and Recall 13V-120 only includes vehicles equipped withsaddle tanks made during the affected period.Approximately 97 percent of the recalled Patriot vehicles (11,277 out of 11,624) were from October 18, 2011 through January 26, 2012.Chrysler determined that a few suspect tanks were used on vehicles produced as late as May 7, 2012 and is including any such vehicles in the recall.The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by Chrysler as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers to identify stalling incidents related to fuel delivery.ODI's analysis identified a total of 64 engine stall incidents related to fuel delivery, all of which involved Patriot 4x4 vehicles equipped with saddle type fuel tanks.The Patriot 4x4 vehicles account for a little over half of the subject vehicle population (59,783 vehicles).Forty-nine (49) of the incidents involved the approximately 11,277 Patriot 4x4 vehicles that were built from October 18, 2011 and January 26, 2012 and equipped with tanks from the period associated with the transfer tube material change.This equates to a complaint rate of 434.5 incidents per 100,000 vehicles sold.Fifteen (15) fuel delivery related engine stalls were identified in the remaining 48,506 Patriot 4x4 vehicles, resulting in a complaint rate of 30.9 incidents per 100,000 vehicles.The rate in the non-recalled Patriot 4x4 vehicles increases to 68.0 incidents per 100,000 vehicles if stalls with no-restart and unknown cause are added to the analysis.The Patriot front-wheel drive vehicles are equipped with single reservoir fuel tanks and are not affected by the saddle-tank fuel delivery issue.Owners of the recalled vehicles will be notified to take their vehicle to a Jeep dealer, who will replace the fuel tank transfer tube to prevent any incidents related to this issue. Chrysler will begin notifying dealers and owners in May 2013.
