I am filing this complaint because my Grand Wagoneer has experienced repeated, serious safety-related failures involving the braking system, electrical/communication systems, and vehicle shutdown. I no longer believe this vehicle is safe to operate. The most serious problem has occurred more than once. On July 21, 2026, while driving, the brakes failed. The brake pedal went to the floor and the vehicle would not stop normally. Multiple warning lights/messages appeared. I ultimately had to shift the vehicle into Park to prevent a collision. The vehicle was taken to the Jeep dealership and remained there for an extended period while the problem was investigated. The dealership reported that it could not identify stored diagnostic codes explaining the brake failure. I was told that the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced before the matter could be escalated further. I authorized approximately $2,000 in brake-related repairs. After an extended stay at the dealership, I received the vehicle back on approximately September 1, 2026. Only approximately two days later, on September 3, 2026, another extremely serious failure occurred. While I was driving, the braking system failed again. The brake pedal went to the floor and I was unable to stop the vehicle normally. The vehicle also experienced an electrical/system failure and shut down while I was driving. Numerous warning messages appeared, including a check-engine warning and suspension/damping system failure. There was also a loss-of-communication fault involving the Body Control Module (U0140 – Lost Communication With Body Control Module). This incident occurred near my daughter’s school and created an immediate risk of a collision and serious injury. The vehicle subsequently restarted, but the clock/time in the vehicle had changed, suggesting that the vehicle may have experienced a significant electrical interruption or module reset. Travelling with my young daughter on the Freeway at Freeway speeds at 9pm (nighttime). The entire vehicle just shut down. EVERYTHING - completely dark. Steering went out. Brakes went out. I had to get the car to basically drift to a shoulder and slow down gradually in a spot where we would be safely out of the way of traffic. Again no brakes or steering and completely dead. Hazzard lights would not work. I had to get the car towed and get my daughter and all of our stuff out of the car on the freeway at night in the complete dark. Scary stuff. It's an expensive car and 2022 is the first model year of the Grand Wagoneer. I suspect based on my experience with this car that this model year will have these types of problems going forward. The car has had electrical issues from day 1 and its unsurprising this happened. What is surprising is just how dangerous the situation was when you were in it. It was a shocking experience.

The vehicle came to a screeching stop with no visible reason for doing so. Three cars behind me also had to come to an abrupt and dangerous stop to avoid me. I pulled out of my driveway, began to drive, reached 10 mph, then came to a full brake, causing tires to screech. The speed of traffic behind me was approx 25mph.

On 2/23/2022, owner struck a medium sized pothole. The vehicle lit up several warning lights (ABS, traction control, etc.) as well as the check engine light. At this time, the driver applied the brakes and they went to the floor. Driver was able to coast into a roundabout and eventually into a parking lot and got the vehicle stopped. Upon shutdown and re-start, the vehicle had brakes again. Vehicle was taken to dealer on 2/23/22 and returned on 2/25/22. Several updates were programmed and battery was replaced. On 3/5/22 driver hit a medium sized pothole on a major interstate at 65 mph and the same thing happened. Luckily traffic was very light as the time and driver was able to exit the freeway and coast to a stop. The car was brought to the dealer again on 3/7/22 where it remains to this day.
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022-2025 Jeep Wagoneer, 2022-2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, 2023-2025 Jeep Wagoneer L, and 2023-2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L vehicles. The pivot bolts for the roof rack crossbars may not have been tightened properly, allowing them to detach.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Detached roof rack crossbars can create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the roof rack crossbar pivot bolts, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed October 8, 2026.
