ONCE AGAIN AS I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE SHUT DOWN (JERKED REAL HARD) AND I LOST ALL DRIVING CAPABILITY ETC POWER STEERING, SPEED CONTROL..... I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN MY JEEP SHUT DOWN IT WAS DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. IT WAS HARD FOR ME TO GLIDE OVER TO THE SHOULDER WHEN EVERYONE AROUND YOU IS GOING 60 MPH AND YOU HAVE NO POWER STEERING. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER I PLACED THE JEEP IN PARK AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND REMOVED THE KEY AND PUT THE KEY BACK IN AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVERYDAY NOW AND WHY SEARCHING THE INTERNET I'VE RAN ACROSS ON HERE AND ELSEWHERE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING PROBLEMS LIKE THIS WITH MY YEAR AND MAKE. IT IS REALLY DANGEROUS AND IM SURPRISED THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL YET OR A TERRIBLE POSSIBLE FATAL ACCIDENT DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEING NON RESPONSIVE IN FAST HEAVY TRAFFIC. *TR

STARTED WITH TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT FLASHING, THEN IT SLOWED VEHICLE FELT LIKE BRAKES WERE ON, GAVE IT MORE GAS AND GOT NO SPEED INCREASE, PRESSED ON THE BRAKE AND THEN IT SEEMED TO SURGE AND SPEED UP ON ITS OWN. THIS WAS UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION &COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL. AFTER THIS! IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL DRIVING. NEXT DAY TOOK A 110 MILE TRIP TRAVELING 70 MPH ON HIGHWAY NO ISSUES UNTIL I ARRIVED AT DESTINATION PULLED INTO DRIVEWAY AND PUT IN PARK AND SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON ABS, ESP, BAS, &TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT FLASHING & SERVICE 4 WHEEL DRIVE... I HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL I STOPPED... WHEN I STARTED UP TO RETURN HOME ALL THE ABOVE LIGHTS STAYED ON BACKED UP OUT OF DRIVEWAY , WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND GAVE IT GAS IT STARTED TO MAKE A BAD GRINDING SOUND LIKE METAL ON METAL A CLUNKING SOUND AND DID NO'T RESPOND TO FUEL PEDDLE. I INCREASED SPEED THEN I FELT IT RELEASE LIKE PARK BRAKE BEING RELEASED... IT DROVE NORMAL BACK HOME DASH LIGHTS STILL ON,... 110 MILE TRIP DOING 70 MOST OF THE WAY... AT HOME I USED THE BUILT IN VEHICLE SCANNER AND GOT CODE U1417 WHICH INDICATES FRONT LEFT WHEEL SENSOR... I REPLACED BOTH SIDES SAME GRINDING SOUND, REPLACED THE 2 BACK SENSOR... NOW I HAVE NO LIGHTS ON DASH AND NO GRINDING CLUNKING SOUNDS NO SOUNDS AT ALL. BUT WHEN I DRIVE I GET THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT FLASHING GIVING IT GAS I CAN NO'T ACCELERATE ABOVE 25 MPH ,SEEMS TO RELEASE AT LOWER SPEEDS BELOW 25MPH BUT IT FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE ON AND SOMETHING IT DECREASING ENGINE POWER... THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM! WHEN I PULLED UNTO TRAFFIC AND I COULD NO'T GET UP TO SPEED I ALMOST GOT INTO A BROADSIDE ACCIDENT... I THOUGHT I HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM TESTED IT IN MY DRIVEWAY NO DASH LIGHTS ON ,AND NO GRINDING OR CLUNKING SOUND SO WHAT IS IT NOW? ... IS IT SOME TRACTION CONTROL PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE A FATHOM PROBLEM A LOT OF JEEP OWNERS ARE HAVING!! *TR

2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT VIOLENT WOBBLING INSTABILITY WHEN DRIVEN AT SPEEDS 30-MPH & GREATER. VEHICLE IS NEVER USED OFF ROAD. JEEP HAS BEEN IN SHOP 56-DAYS CUMULATIVE SINCE AUG 09, JEEP KEEPS SAYING PARTS ARE BACKORDERED. I PICKED UP CAR TWO TIMES AFTER REPAIRS & HAD TO BRING VEHICLE BACK TO JEEP WITHIN A DAY BOTH TIMES BECAUSE PROBLEM RECURS. DEALER HAS CHARGED FOR 3 SEPARATE REPAIRS AND PROBLEM IS STILL NOT CORRECTED. I PAID FOR FIRST REPAIR A FRONT END BUSHING OUT OF POCKET $220.00 TO FIX THIS WOBBLE, WHICH DIDN'T RESOLVE ISSUE. MY CAR INSURANCE COMPANY THEN PAID JEEP FOR A NEW DRIVE SHAFT REPLACEMENT $1,348.00 TO FIX THE WOBBLE, WHICH DIDN'T RESOLVE ISSUE. MY CAR INSURANCE COMPANY THEN PAID JEEP $2,165.00 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER TO FIX THE WOBBLE AND TOLD JEEP THEY HAD TO GUARANTEE THE REPAIR OR WOULD NEED REIMBURSEMENT. JEEP REPLACED TORQUE CONVERTER AND INSURANCE PAID THEM FOR REPAIR. I HAD THE CAR LESS THAN 24-HOURS AND WOBBLE OCCURRED AGAIN AT APPROXIMATELY 35 TO 40-MPH. CAR IS NOW BACK AT JEEP SERVICE AS OF 10/05/13. I HAD BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW FROM CHRYSLER JEEP. IT HAS ALWAYS ONLY BEEN USED FOR HOME PRIVATE USE. ALL REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE JEEP PARTS. EVEN THE TIRES WHEN REPLACED ARE THE SAME EXACT MAKE AND MODEL THAT HAD CAME WITH THE VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS FIRST BOUGHT. JEEP LAST SAID BEFORE I PICKED UP CAR AFTER THEY REPLACED TORQUE CONVERTER THAT THEY DROVE CAR 100 MILES AND DIDN'T EXPERIENCE THE WOBBLE AGAIN. AFTER I PICKED UP CAR WOBBLE OCCURRED IN LESS THAN 24-HOURS / UNDER 30-MILES OF DRIVING. WHEN I BROUGHT IT BACK JEEP WAS UPSET AND SAID THEY DIDN'T FEEL IT BEFORE I PICKED IT UP AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REIMBURSE MY INSURANCE IF THIS WASN'T FIXED. NOW WHAT? THE CAR IS NOW BACK AT JEEP SINCE YESTERDAY OCT 06. YESTERDAY WAS THE FIRST TIME THEY GAVE ME A LOANER CAR THAT I AM USING. *TR

Jul 21, 2014

This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, drivers should adjust their seat to allow clearance between the driver's knee and the ignition key, and remove all items from their key ring, leaving only the vehicle key. Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured February 11, 2004, to July 5, 2007, and 2006-2007 Jeep Commander vehicles manufactured January 31, 2005, to July 5, 2007. In the affected vehicles, the driver may accidentally hit the ignition key with their knee, unintentionally knocking the key out of the run position, turning off the engine.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the ignition key inadvertently moves into the OFF or ACCESSORY position, the engine will turn off, which will then depower various key safety systems including but not limited to air bags, power steering, and power braking. Loss of functionality of these systems may increase the risk of crash and/or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. Chrysler sent interim notifications to owners in September 2014. The recall began on October 9, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P41.

13V175000 · Electrical System; Power Train:transfer Case (4-WHEEL Drive)

May 7, 2013

A transfer case electrical failure may result in an unintentional shifting of the transfer case into the neutral position.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the vehicle shifts into neutral, it may roll away increasing the risk of a crash or personal injury.

Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the final drive controller which governs the transfer case, with new software, free of charge. The recall began on August 15, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N23.

AQ10001 · Fleet Vehicle Recall Completion Audit

Opened Nov 18, 2010 · Closed Dec 28, 2015

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Unknown Or Other

On November 18, 2010, NHTSA's Recall Management Division (RMD) opened an audit query (AQ10-001) to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on safety recall campaigns. It was expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets perform necessary recall-related remedies on the vehicles owned and then rented/leased for use on the roadways.RMD queried three (3) major motor vehicle manufacturers (Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors) and requested data regarding completion figures for fifteen (15) discreet safety recalls.Analysis of this data demonstrated that rental car recalls completion was neither complete nor consistent. The rental car companies representing the largest market share in the industry were then queried as to their respective policies for the rental, lease, and sale of vehicles with open recalls. The data and responses from the manufacturers and the rental car companies can be found in the document repository by accessing the ?Associated Documents link above. In December 2015, Congress enacted the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act.One section of the Act prohibits rental car companies from renting, leasing, or selling motor vehicles subject to open safety recalls. With the passage of the FAST Act and its prohibition, there is no continuing need for the agency to investigate rental car recall completions.Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The agency reserves the right to open any future investigations, including audits of individual recalls, or groups of recalls, or rental car companies, to examine more closely safety recalls performance and completion issues in this area.
