TL*- THE CONTACT HAS A 1998 ISUZU HOMBRE AND STATED THAT EVERY TIME HE CLOSES THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR OR IS PUMPING GAS HE GETS A STATIC SHOCK. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ELECTRIC SHOCK WAS JUST NORMAL AND THAT THERE WASN'T ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE CAUSE OF THE SHOCK HAD TO DO WITH THE FABRIC ON THE VEHICLE'S SEATS. HE ALSO HAD THE VEHICLE IN STORAGE FOR ABOUT 5.5 YEARS, BUT HAD EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE BEFORE STORING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100 MILES AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,600 MILES.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: LIGHT DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS AND MULTI-PURPOSE VEHICLES. AN ENGINE ELECTRICAL WIRING-HARNESS CLIP CAN MELT AND DRIP ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: THE CLIP MATERIAL ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD CAN IGNITE AND SUBSEQUENTLY IGNITE OTHER COMBUSTIBLE COMPONENTS RESULTING IN A VEHICLE FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS ARE CONTACTING OWNERS BY TELEPHONE TO HAVE THEIR VEHICLES TOWED TO THE DEALER AND ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED TO THEM UNTIL THE DEALER CAN REROUTE THE ELECTRICAL WIRING-HARNESS.
