On [XXX] I was in Pennsylvania packing my car to make a trip back home to New Hampshire. I closed the tailgate and it fell off and hit the bumper which dented the tailgate. i was able to put it up on the truck. When I checked further I was able to put it back but stopped often on my 7 hour trip to make sure it was latched. …

On [XXX] I was in Pennsylvania packing my car to make a trip back home to New Hampshire. I closed the tailgate and it fell off and hit the bumper which dented the tailgate. i was able to put it up on the truck. When I checked further I was able to put it back but stopped often on my 7 hour trip to make sure it was latched. I was never informed that this could happen and my sales person and customer service for Hyundai was not aware of this issue. Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2024 Tucson and Santa Cruz vehicles. The circuit board in the motor-driven power steering assembly may short circuit, resulting in a loss of power steering assist.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A loss of power steering assist can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the motor-driven power steering electric power pack, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 11, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 261.
