I was approaching a stop sign, slowing down to around ~20 mph, then gently applied the brakes. All of a sudden, the car stared to lurch forward and the steering wheel shuddered violently as the ABS braking appeared to kick in. As the brakes were applied, the vehicle kept bouncing forward in spurts rather than stopping and it took almost twice as long to stop than it should have. There was a vehicle in front of me and my vehicle was a foot from rear-ending that car despite me slowing in advance and attempting to brake gently. The collision warning system kicked in and I suspect that the vehicle stopped itself, even though I was firmly holding the brake pedal down. My wife experienced te identical situation a week later, so this is becoming very concerning. A quick search on the internet has revealed that many other 2023 & 2024 model year have experienced the same issues, and apparently Hyundai USA is aware of the issue, but do not have a solution to fix it yet.

A severe safety concern with our 2023 Hyundai Palisade, which has been present since the day we received the vehicle. When braking on uneven roads, the brakes jitter and stutter. This issue does not seem to occur on flat surfaces; however, it is always at lower rate of speed when roads have bumps. On three separate occasions, I have experienced a complete loss of brakes, and my wife has faced the same issue at least five times. When this happens, standing on the brakes does not trigger any response—there are no warning alarms, and the brake system completely fails. The potential to hit another vehicle or pedestrian, or veer into oncoming traffic, is very high, and in fact, I’ve had to swerve into a curb (causing curb rash to the right passenger rim) to avoid a collision. Due to the severity of this problem, I no longer allow my wife to drive the vehicle. I have a appointment on 10/21 with McDonald Hyundai. I have noticed this since day 1 and regret that I did not act sooner! Upon conducting research, I discovered over 21 complaints on one website alone regarding the exact same issue. I am deeply concerned that the mechanics may not be familiar with this specific problem.

On a second occasion, about 2 months later, I was driving about 25mph on a sunny, dry day, and I came to an intersection. I applied the brake, and again, rather than stopping, the brake vibrated and the car coasted into the intersection. There was a car coming, so I had to honk the horn repeatedly to alert the other driver that my car was not stopping. I took the car to the dealership. They have been unable to reproduce the problem, so they insist that nothing has happened and they want me to take the car back.

He tried to push me to make a claim with my auto carrier which I did not. This is a warranty claim not a collision claim. I then contacted Hyundai direct & they also tried to steer me to a auto collision claim. I declined & filed a claim for ADR with the BBB & it is pending. Going on line I see this appears to be a common complaint with the Hyundai radar module. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was slowing down approaching an intersection with cars already at a full stop up ahead. I was braking to slow down in preparation to stop. As I got closer, I drove over railroad tracks and felt the brake pedal begin to vibrate like the automatic emergency braking system kicked in. With my foot still on the brake, the car continued forward without any additional decrease in speed. I pushed my foot down as hard as I could and the car stopped inches from the car in front of me. I’m not sure if me pressing on the brake more even did anything or if some other collision avoidance system in the car stopped it before colliding with the car in front of me. There was beeping and the display switched to show cameras in front of the car, which happens when getting close to something while parking, etc. Luckily I was slowing and not at a high rate of speed. If I had hit the car ahead of me, there would have been damage but not major. What if I was going faster when this occurred? Or if I was braking for a person or bike? Or if it was collision avoidance that actually stopped the car here but I was the first car stopping in the intersection and couldn’t stop.

I have lost all confidence in this vehicle and my family, and I are scared to drive in (especially my 5 year old daughter). The mechanical failures that were experienced during these events were intense and life risking. During the first incident the vehicle brakes engaged while driving and caused the vehicle to stall in the middle of an intersection while turning left to enter highway, numerous vehicles were traveling in opposite direction and could have resulted in head on collision. No systems worked during this event, neither the horn nor the headlights worked to signal other vehicles of problem. Had to slam on the gas, which led to violent vehicle take off, that jolted my daughter around in her car seat and narrowly avoided collision with other vehicles. That was on [XXX], and similar events happened on [XXX] and [XXX]. Video and pictures of event were taken as they occurred on [XXX] event. Claim (Case#: XXX) was opened with Hyundai Consumer Affairs on [XXX]. All videos and pictures were shared on multiple occasions with Hyundai Team. Hyundai refused to repurchase the vehicle under Lemon Law provisions and cited that the issue didn’t start until the [XXX] event, which exceeds the 12-month statute. However, the issues started in Aug of 2023 and the dealer service records clearly document this. Hyundai insists that since they could not replicate the issue it didn’t start until Feb 1, when they were able to replicate. I don’t agree with this view and should not be penalized because of Hyundai’s technical limitations. Furthermore, they were perfectly fine with using my family as Guinee Pigs as they instructed me to continue driving the car and bring it when it happened again. Completely dismissing the gravity and potential consequences of the events, as described above, that took place on [XXX]. This vehicle has proven to have major malfunctions and should be removed from circulation immediately. PE24021 · Inadvertent Seat Belt Unlatch

Opened Aug 7, 2024 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Seat Belts

On August 7, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE24021 to investigate complaints alleging inadvertent unlatching of seat belts in model year (MY) 2020-2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles manufactured by Hyundai Motor America. The complaints alleged that, without warning, the seat belts sometimes inadvertently unlatch, increasing the risk of injury due to full loss of seat belt protection in the event of a crash. As a result of information exchanged as part of the investigation, on April 3, 2025, Hyundai initiated a warranty extension policy for seat belt buckles on model year 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.  Hyundai subsequently initiated a request for warranty parts returns to support further analysis by the buckle supplier, ZF Lifetec. The warranty extension (reference “Z06”) noted that certain 2020 – 2025 model year Palisade vehicles may experience abnormal seat belt buckle(s) operation.   Hyundai extended the warranty coverage for the seat belt buckle under this condition to 15 years/150,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date of original retail delivery or date of first use.  This action is valid for original and subsequent owners. On September 11, 2025, Hyundai filed recall 25V-607 for certain 2020-2025 Hyundai Palisade vehicles.  Hyundai explained in its recall filing that the subject vehicles are equipped with seat belt buckle assemblies in the front row and second row outer seating positions that may contain out-of-specification components manufactured by the supplier.  These components can cause interference within the latch channel, potentially increasing friction, particularly under cold ambient temperatures. Improperly produced seat belt buckles, combined with slow insertion of the seat belt tongue plate, may prevent the seat belt buckle from fully latching. The recall remedy is currently under development. In view of Hyundai’s recall action, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation, but will continue to monitor the issue as a remedy is developed and implemented. ODI will take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

On August 15, 2022, Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) filed a safety recall (NHTSA Recall 22V-627) of 122,919 model year (MY) 2020-2021 Hyundai Palisade vehicles produced from April 10, 2019 to November 30, 2020. This recall addressed windshield wipers that may function intermittently or stop functioning when impeded by the accumulation of snow and/or ice at the bottom of the windshield. Intermittent or inoperative windshield wipers could reduce driver visibility while operating the vehicle in inclement weather, increasing the risk of a crash. On December 2, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query (RQ) after receiving 6 consumer complaints alleging windshield wiper failures while driving during wintry precipitation in MY 2021-2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles (subject vehicles). These vehicles were excluded from Recall 22V-627. At the time of opening the RQ, the root cause and recall remedy were still unknown and under investigation. Thus, the RQ was opened to assess the scope and remedy of Recall 22V-627.In its February 10, 2023 response to ODI's information request on the RQ, Hyundai provided 17 customer complaints and 75 warranty claims related to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. Hyundai stated that the wiper systems in the subject vehicles are equipped with a different wiper motor design than the earlier-built Palisade vehicles included in Recall 22V-627. Hyundai also stated it does not believe there is an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety in the wiper system in subject vehicles. On March 17, 2023, Hyundai filed a new safety recall (NHTSA Recall 23V-180) of 167,085 MY 2021-2023 Palisade vehicles produced from December 1, 2020 to November 22, 2022 when a design change was implemented. The design change, as well as the recall remedy (for both Recalls 22V-627 and 23V-180), is a redesigned driver-side wiper arm that allows for additional snow accumulation between the wiper arm and the cowl, thus reducing the load on the wiper motor and circuit breaker activation. In view of the recall action being taken by Hyundai, ODI is closing this RQ. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. The ODI complaints cited above can be viewed at NHTSA.gov under the following ODI identification numbers:11521365, 11517359, 11512295, 11509965, 11509253, 11508868, 11502146, 11501278, 11497343, 11494119, 11458548, 11450975, 11450045, 11449381, 11443330.
