I am reporting a serious safety issue involving a 2023 Hyundai Palisade with approximately 26,000 miles. While the vehicle is being driven, the ESC warning light illuminates and the vehicle can unexpectedly come to a stop, shift into Park, and shut down. The vehicle must then be restarted before it can be driven again. This condition has occurred while the vehicle is in operation and creates a significant safety concern because the vehicle can unexpectedly stop in the roadway. If this occurs in traffic or at highway speeds, there is a risk of a rear-end collision or other crash. The vehicle has been presented to/communicated about with an authorized Hyundai dealership, ALM Hyundai Florence in Florence, South Carolina, but the issue has not been resolved. I am also reporting the issue directly to Hyundai Motor America. I am requesting that NHTSA document and investigate this condition to determine whether other 2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles have experienced similar ESC-related shutdown, stopping, or unintended shifting-to-Park events and whether a safety defect may exist.

On June 27, 2026 I started the vehicle and every warning light came on and the gauge cluster started cycling through system failure warnings for most every component/system on the vehicle. The vehicle was barely drivable, with no power steering, no backup camera, no AC, inoperable gauges, no safety/driver aids, and hard shifting. It was taken to Bentley Hyundai in Huntsville the same day. The vehicle was diagnosed with a CANBUS failure and after weeks of troubleshooting they said it was a bad engine wiring harness. The new harness was installed under our extended factory warranty this week. I was informed today, August 29, 2026, that there are still electrical issues with the vehicle. I am concerned about the safety of this vehicle now due to the length of time it has been at the dealership, 60+ days, and continuing issues even after replacement of a major component of the electrical system.

On August 4, 2026, our 2023 Hyundai Palisade was brought in for a routine oil change and rear tint recall. The driver's power seat height adjustment mechanism worked perfectly upon drop-off. When the car was picked up, the height adjustment function was no longer operable. The service department inspected the car and admitted that a factory wire bundle beneath the track was physically snapped/severed. To make matters worse, we discovered upon pickup that the vehicle's computer system had been completely factory reset. This was done without our knowledge or consent. When questioned about this, the service manager was entirely unable to provide any valid justification for why an oil change/rear window tint service would require a total system reset. This strongly indicates that service person experienced an electrical short or attempted deep electronic troubleshooting while the vehicle was in their possession, further implicating their shop in this damage. The service manager insists that their team did not cause the damage. However, they were unable to return the seat to the position it was in when dropped off. The primary driver of this vehicle is under 5 feet tall. Because Hyundai returned the car with the seat locked at its lowest setting and was unable to raise it, the primary driver cannot safely maintain visibility over the dashboard. She had to adjust the steering wheel to its lowest setting in order to operate the vehicle. The current configuration is not the ideal, nor safest setup. She uses this car to transport the children and we need the driver's seat operable again as soon as possible.

Our Hyundai has a powertrain problem that is intermittent and random, and manifests itself in a couple of ways: 1) It drops out of gear while you are driving; there is no forward propulsion at all; the engine will rev when you press the gas, but no forward movement at all. You have to coast to a stop (or panic stop if the traffic allows), put it in reverse, drive backwards, then the transmission will “chunk” back into gear, then you can put it back in drive and continue forward again. This is life-threatening on a busy road or highway. Traffic has to flow around you like water around a rock in a stream while you try to use what’s left of your forward momentum to pull to the side of the road. Absolutely terrifying!!! The dash has also gone completely blank during some of these episodes. Nothing changes the situation: pressing “D”, shifting the paddles, nothing gets the vehicle back in gear. We have video taped these events twice, and provided those videos to our Hyundai Service Center, and to the Hyundai National Consumer Affairs team. They claim that they can’t reproduce it on demand, so they have done NOTHING. We are scared to drive the car. 2) As you start accelerating from a stop, the powertrain will miss the next gear. The engine revs, but you are not in gear, then it will catch a gear and continue to accelerate. These events happen often, but seemingly randomly. After several episodes last year, and no Service Center resolution, we reached out to the Hyundai National Consumer Affairs team, and have continued to be in contact with them, but they have not helped in any way to resolve this. They have assigned numerous Case numbers and Reps, and have emailed me over 20 times instructing me that I should go AGAIN to the Service Center, and then that they have no updates. We are terrified to drive this vehicle, and it is the only one we have. With these issues, we are in danger every time we leave home for our Dr. appointments and necessary trips.

While entering a roundabout at a slow speed (~5MPH), the electronic power steering on my wife's car failed, almost resulting in an accident with another vehicle, as it suddenly became very difficult to steer. The vehicle's power steering warning indicator turned on, and then the following warning messages appeared on the dashboard: Check Forward/Side Safety system, Check Lane Safety system, Check Lane Following Assist system, and Check Inattentive Driving Warning system. After turning into a nearby parking lot and parking, the vehicle was turned off and then back on, and all warning messages and the power steering warning indicator turned off. My wife was approximately 1 mile from home and decided to try to drive home. After getting back on the road, the same issue occurred again with all indicators and warnings repopulating on the dashboard this time with the vehicle traveling at approximately 35 MPH as she crossed a major intersection. My wife was able to get the car home safely without power steering, and after turning the car off and back on again, all warning messages and indicators turned off again. The next day, 4/30/2026, we contacted our local Hyundai dealer and Hyundai roadside assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it is currently being serviced for this issue. We have not yet received an update on what caused the issue, but we felt it was important to report it to NHTSA because, if it had happened at a higher speed, it could have resulted in a serious accident and possibly serious injury or death of my pregnant wife and child, who was with her in the car at the time. I can provide any and all updates and documentation I receive from the dealer upon request, and the vehicle can possibly be made available for inspection upon request.

On September 11, 2025, Hyundai of New Port Richey (Lithia Motors) executed a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) contract and delivered a 2023 Hyundai Palisade (VIN: [XXX] act day the manufacturer issued a federal Stop-Sale for Recall #283 (Seatbelt Latch Failure). Internal documents show the CPO sale relied on mechanical inspection data from 34 days prior (August 8, 2025). There is no documentation of a point-of-sale safety check performed on September 11, resulting in the vehicle being sold despite the active Stop-Sale order. Presumably, because the sale occurred on the exact date Recall #283 was issued, we were excluded from the manufacturer's October safety mailing. We unknowingly operated the vehicle for seven months without knowledge of the seatbelt defect, though we did receive subsequent notices for campaigns 9C9, 9C8, and Recall #292 (Ejection Mitigation). Combined, the active status of Recall #283 and Recall #292 leaves the vehicle with zero safe seating positions. Furthermore, internal records show the vehicle failed a computer diagnostic test ('NG' code) with a severely depleted 11.90V battery prior to purchase. The CPO sale was executed without resolving this documented fault. This correlates to a severe electrical issue where the parked vehicle spontaneously unlocks. Attached documents: "Palisade Sales Paperwork" - Documents the 9/11/25 purchase date. "Palisade Repair Order" - Documents the electrical/battery failure. (I also possess a video from the Hyundai technician confirming the battery issue). "Final Evidentiary Summary" - Chronological timeline of the transaction. "Palisade Inspection Form" - August 8, 2025, internal document recording the battery failure and outdated recall checks. This was not provided to us with the 9/11/25 purchase paperwork, and the customer signature is left blank. Along with the two recalls of which I have not been contacted by Hyundai or provided any form of remedy, this is highly concerning and makes me feel extremely unsafe driving my vehicle, especially with the fact that I have small children and teenagers. My car had an issue from inception that I’ve let the dealer know about that. They still have not fixed including the fact that well I’ll be driving on certain roads are on the highway. It’ll come up with a warning telling me that I’m going the wrong way and try to engage the automatic breaking system. In addition, the second row seatbelt has been stuck and it won’t go back in. The third row seats often times try to disengage and come down. Anytime I hit a small bump or go over a speed bump even very slow. My Bluetooth goes off-line as well as the Navigation and then it comes back online within 3 to 5 minutes. Carr seems to have had a number of odd issues, including the way the engine has sounded as well as the electrical system is not engaging properly. I feel highly unsafe continuing to drive this vehicle and until all recalls and full proper analysis is conducted to remedy these issues I would want Either a full refund of the cash value that I purchased my vehicle for, a brand new vehicle at no additional charge, or a loaner vehicle until all of these issues are remedied, and then a full analysis to ensure that it meets the standards. My preference would be to get a full refund of the cash value in which I purchased my vehicle for so I can get something else that is more safe for my family.

During the incident, the vehicle's steering was not able to turn. I have to keep my foot on the brake pedal for a while. After the second incident, I managed to drive the vehicle carefully and slowly to the dealership, but I was told there was no problem with the vehicle. So, I requested to take a drive with a mechanic, and the engine shut off in the middle of the street while slowing down for the third time. The dashboard reads "Auto stop is off." PE24021 · Inadvertent Seat Belt Unlatch

Opened Aug 7, 2024 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Seat Belts

On August 7, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE24021 to investigate complaints alleging inadvertent unlatching of seat belts in model year (MY) 2020-2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles manufactured by Hyundai Motor America. The complaints alleged that, without warning, the seat belts sometimes inadvertently unlatch, increasing the risk of injury due to full loss of seat belt protection in the event of a crash. As a result of information exchanged as part of the investigation, on April 3, 2025, Hyundai initiated a warranty extension policy for seat belt buckles on model year 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.  Hyundai subsequently initiated a request for warranty parts returns to support further analysis by the buckle supplier, ZF Lifetec. The warranty extension (reference “Z06”) noted that certain 2020 – 2025 model year Palisade vehicles may experience abnormal seat belt buckle(s) operation.   Hyundai extended the warranty coverage for the seat belt buckle under this condition to 15 years/150,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date of original retail delivery or date of first use.  This action is valid for original and subsequent owners. On September 11, 2025, Hyundai filed recall 25V-607 for certain 2020-2025 Hyundai Palisade vehicles.  Hyundai explained in its recall filing that the subject vehicles are equipped with seat belt buckle assemblies in the front row and second row outer seating positions that may contain out-of-specification components manufactured by the supplier.  These components can cause interference within the latch channel, potentially increasing friction, particularly under cold ambient temperatures. Improperly produced seat belt buckles, combined with slow insertion of the seat belt tongue plate, may prevent the seat belt buckle from fully latching. The recall remedy is currently under development. In view of Hyundai’s recall action, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation, but will continue to monitor the issue as a remedy is developed and implemented. ODI will take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

On August 15, 2022, Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) filed a safety recall (NHTSA Recall 22V-627) of 122,919 model year (MY) 2020-2021 Hyundai Palisade vehicles produced from April 10, 2019 to November 30, 2020. This recall addressed windshield wipers that may function intermittently or stop functioning when impeded by the accumulation of snow and/or ice at the bottom of the windshield. Intermittent or inoperative windshield wipers could reduce driver visibility while operating the vehicle in inclement weather, increasing the risk of a crash. On December 2, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query (RQ) after receiving 6 consumer complaints alleging windshield wiper failures while driving during wintry precipitation in MY 2021-2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles (subject vehicles). These vehicles were excluded from Recall 22V-627. At the time of opening the RQ, the root cause and recall remedy were still unknown and under investigation. Thus, the RQ was opened to assess the scope and remedy of Recall 22V-627.In its February 10, 2023 response to ODI's information request on the RQ, Hyundai provided 17 customer complaints and 75 warranty claims related to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. Hyundai stated that the wiper systems in the subject vehicles are equipped with a different wiper motor design than the earlier-built Palisade vehicles included in Recall 22V-627. Hyundai also stated it does not believe there is an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety in the wiper system in subject vehicles. On March 17, 2023, Hyundai filed a new safety recall (NHTSA Recall 23V-180) of 167,085 MY 2021-2023 Palisade vehicles produced from December 1, 2020 to November 22, 2022 when a design change was implemented. The design change, as well as the recall remedy (for both Recalls 22V-627 and 23V-180), is a redesigned driver-side wiper arm that allows for additional snow accumulation between the wiper arm and the cowl, thus reducing the load on the wiper motor and circuit breaker activation. In view of the recall action being taken by Hyundai, ODI is closing this RQ. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. The ODI complaints cited above can be viewed at NHTSA.gov under the following ODI identification numbers:11521365, 11517359, 11512295, 11509965, 11509253, 11508868, 11502146, 11501278, 11497343, 11494119, 11458548, 11450975, 11450045, 11449381, 11443330.
