My Palisade is burning oil at a rapid pace. I took it to the dealership and they said it was an acceptable level. I don't believe that to be correct. I have less than 100,000 miles on it.

In May 2025, I contacted Hyundai regarding excessive oil consumption in my 2021 Palisade. In June, Hyundai directed me to take the vehicle to a dealership for testing. Under TSB 23-EM-008H ([XXX]), a failed oil consumption test requires engine replacement. My vehicle is covered under Hyundai’s 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. I have provided complete maintenance records and receipts for every oil change since purchasing the vehicle. Despite this, Hyundai has repeatedly denied my claim, citing maintenance issues and gross negligence without justification. Hyundai’s own guidance states that oil changes may be performed every 7,000 to 10,000 miles under normal conditions. The repeated testing process has worsened the engine condition. In addition, the dealership has returned the vehicle with missing bolts, oil-related issues, and damage resulting from an improper rear window film installation. I have made numerous attempts to resolve this matter and obtain the warranty coverage to which I am entitled, but Hyundai and the dealership have failed to do so. I am requesting one of the following remedies: (1) a full engine replacement in accordance with the warranty and TSB requirements, (2) a replacement vehicle of equal or greater trim level, or (3) reimbursement of all costs associated with leasing, purchasing, maintaining, and repairing this vehicle. We purchased this vehicle based on Hyundai’s reputation, ratings, and promise of “America’s Best Warranty.” We still like the vehicle itself, but the ongoing mechanical issues and Hyundai’s handling of this claim have been unacceptable. Above is what Google found [XXX] ) when i put in some key words. Here is what i wrote to a [XXX] . my 2021 Hyundai Palisade Campaign 9C in your article about the 2022 having the same downshifting issues after the Emissions recall was done. Have you heard from other 2021 owners? I use the downshift for breaking/keeping my speed down to save the breaks here in the [XXX] , [XXX] , and [XXX] mountains. Does not function as designed. "Loss of engine braking" " High Engine Revving" Did go back to dealer and drove tech around lot. I called back later and nothing they can do. 5/12/26 Went to the dealer again, for an appointment. Dealer service manager said it working as designed. Bull, was not that way before. He said if i don't like it, trade in the car.. He also said that I can't compare the Palasade to the other cars that have manual shifting. bull. I said Why have them if they don't do anything... Tried to explain that I have been driving for over 40 years and have always downshifted every car. This was fine until the emissions recall. Got no place with the dealer. Contacted Hyundai Corporate last week, and they should be following up on Wednesday/tomorrow. 5/13/26 Left VM for Sales GM at Bowser today where i purchase the car. I own a 2021 Hyundai Palisade and have experienced a complete transmission failure that I believe Hyundai had prior knowledge of and failed to address. Before my warranty expired, I contacted the dealership several times to report transmission symptoms I was experiencing. I was told that because no diagnostic code had been produced at that time, there was nothing they could do. Eventually, my check engine light came on with a P0741 code — Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance. When I brought the vehicle in, the dealer flushed the transmission fluid, which came out dark and contaminated with metal particles. After running the vehicle, the fluid was still dark, indicating active internal damage already in progress. The dealership has now told me I need a full transmission replacement at my own expense. I am the second owner of this vehicle with approximately 105,000 miles. I have since learned that Hyundai issued Technical Service Bulletin #20-AT-005H-1 specifically addressing the P0741 code on the 2021 Palisade, instructing dealers to replace the solenoid and valve body harness. This repair procedure was never applied to my vehicle despite my early report of symptoms. I believe this is a known defect that Hyundai has failed to escalate to a recall, leaving consumers like me with thousands of dollars in repair costs for a problem the manufacturer was already aware of. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and consider whether a recall is warranted for the 2021 Hyundai Palisade.

The vehicle suffered a structural "seam leak" on the pressurized oil filter housing. This was verified by an authorized Hyundai dealer (Dealer XXX, Invoice #XXX). The failure is a structural crack in the housing component itself, not a maintenance-related seal or filter failure. This defect causes pressurized engine oil to spray directly onto the hot engine block while the vehicle is in operation, creating a severe and immediate fire hazard. Additionally, the rapid loss of oil and oil pressure poses a risk of sudden engine seizure or stalling at highway speeds, which could lead to a crash. Despite being a known manufacturing defect in a critical engine component, the manufacturer has refused to address the safety implications or offer a remedy. Vehicle experienced engine failure previously and received a Hyundai-installed replacement engine in February 2025. Replacement engine is now setting DTC P000A00 – Intake Camshaft Position Slow Response (Bank 1). Hyundai dealership master technician confirmed excessive variance between commanded and actual cam timing, indicating a VVT / cam timing failure controlled by oil and actuators. Hyundai is refusing to cover diagnosis and repair under replacement engine warranty and is requiring customer-paid tear-down despite fault originating within the engine assembly. Concern is for internal engine timing failure that may lead to engine damage or loss of power. This appears consistent with known Hyundai engine timing and oil control issues

The vehicle experienced premature transmission failure, including torque converter clutch malfunction, hesitation, jerking at speeds between 30–35 mph and 50–60 mph, and drivability issues. Diagnostic indicators are consistent with widespread complaints from other Hyundai Palisade owners. This failure presents a potential safety concern due to unpredictable vehicle response, hesitation during acceleration, and reduced control during highway driving. Dealer / Manufacturer Response: Hyundai Motor America requires an authorized dealer to submit a warranty or goodwill claim for review. The servicing dealer, Reliable Hyundai (Springfield, Missouri), has refused to submit the claim, preventing evaluation and resolution. This issue appears to be a known defect affecting multiple vehicles of the same model year. I am submitting this complaint to assist NHTSA in identifying patterns that may warrant investigation or recall action.

PE24021 · Inadvertent Seat Belt Unlatch

Opened Aug 7, 2024 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Seat Belts

On August 7, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE24021 to investigate complaints alleging inadvertent unlatching of seat belts in model year (MY) 2020-2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles manufactured by Hyundai Motor America. The complaints alleged that, without warning, the seat belts sometimes inadvertently unlatch, increasing the risk of injury due to full loss of seat belt protection in the event of a crash. As a result of information exchanged as part of the investigation, on April 3, 2025, Hyundai initiated a warranty extension policy for seat belt buckles on model year 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.  Hyundai subsequently initiated a request for warranty parts returns to support further analysis by the buckle supplier, ZF Lifetec. The warranty extension (reference “Z06”) noted that certain 2020 – 2025 model year Palisade vehicles may experience abnormal seat belt buckle(s) operation.   Hyundai extended the warranty coverage for the seat belt buckle under this condition to 15 years/150,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date of original retail delivery or date of first use.  This action is valid for original and subsequent owners. On September 11, 2025, Hyundai filed recall 25V-607 for certain 2020-2025 Hyundai Palisade vehicles.  Hyundai explained in its recall filing that the subject vehicles are equipped with seat belt buckle assemblies in the front row and second row outer seating positions that may contain out-of-specification components manufactured by the supplier.  These components can cause interference within the latch channel, potentially increasing friction, particularly under cold ambient temperatures. Improperly produced seat belt buckles, combined with slow insertion of the seat belt tongue plate, may prevent the seat belt buckle from fully latching. The recall remedy is currently under development. In view of Hyundai’s recall action, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation, but will continue to monitor the issue as a remedy is developed and implemented. ODI will take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

On August 15, 2022, Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) filed a safety recall (NHTSA Recall 22V-627) of 122,919 model year (MY) 2020-2021 Hyundai Palisade vehicles produced from April 10, 2019 to November 30, 2020. This recall addressed windshield wipers that may function intermittently or stop functioning when impeded by the accumulation of snow and/or ice at the bottom of the windshield. Intermittent or inoperative windshield wipers could reduce driver visibility while operating the vehicle in inclement weather, increasing the risk of a crash. On December 2, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query (RQ) after receiving 6 consumer complaints alleging windshield wiper failures while driving during wintry precipitation in MY 2021-2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles (subject vehicles). These vehicles were excluded from Recall 22V-627. At the time of opening the RQ, the root cause and recall remedy were still unknown and under investigation. Thus, the RQ was opened to assess the scope and remedy of Recall 22V-627.In its February 10, 2023 response to ODI's information request on the RQ, Hyundai provided 17 customer complaints and 75 warranty claims related to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. Hyundai stated that the wiper systems in the subject vehicles are equipped with a different wiper motor design than the earlier-built Palisade vehicles included in Recall 22V-627. Hyundai also stated it does not believe there is an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety in the wiper system in subject vehicles. On March 17, 2023, Hyundai filed a new safety recall (NHTSA Recall 23V-180) of 167,085 MY 2021-2023 Palisade vehicles produced from December 1, 2020 to November 22, 2022 when a design change was implemented. The design change, as well as the recall remedy (for both Recalls 22V-627 and 23V-180), is a redesigned driver-side wiper arm that allows for additional snow accumulation between the wiper arm and the cowl, thus reducing the load on the wiper motor and circuit breaker activation. In view of the recall action being taken by Hyundai, ODI is closing this RQ. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. The ODI complaints cited above can be viewed at NHTSA.gov under the following ODI identification numbers:11521365, 11517359, 11512295, 11509965, 11509253, 11508868, 11502146, 11501278, 11497343, 11494119, 11458548, 11450975, 11450045, 11449381, 11443330.
