The ioniq 5 highway driving assist, which steers the car and keeps it centered in the lane, will disengage without clear warning - the small green steering wheel icon (which is at the top of the dash cluster) simply becomes grey and blinks, but there's no audible chime to indicate that the car has disengaged the steering assist. I have had multiple times on the highway where it disengaged and I don't notice (because I am looking at the road, not the dash) and one time on the highway it disengaged during a turn and hit the rumble strip, causing me to swerve back onto the road. My hands were on the steering wheel and I was paying full attention, but I was expecting the car to handle the turn, and it just disengaged without me noticing. Had there been another car in the middle lane or I reacted slower, it's likely a crash would have occurred. This has been documented as well on Reddit and confirmed by multiple owners, who have mentioned they have disclosed to the manufacturer: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Due to a heavy brake application a water bottle in the back seat spilled and the water traveled under the drivers seat. This resulted in multiple car systems going offline, vehicle reporting LKAS error and inability to turn the car off. This essentially bricked the vehicle. Repair in order to correct the shorts and corrosion from the water both the drivers seat and main floor wiring harnesses require replacement cost estimate approximately $12,000. These key electrical connections under drivers seat are not adequately protected from simple water damage. This in my opinion makes the vehicle unfit for use as a family EV SUV as a simple water bottle still should not be able to brick a car. I consider this a design defect and the manufacturer is not covering this under warranty.

Several times now the "Check Driver Assistance System" and "Check Lane Assist System" have come on and stayed on. I brought the car dealership, and they fixed it--but only temporarily--the problem recurs within a few days of the fix. All of the sensor cameras are clean. I have read that a weak 12-volt battery can cause this problem, but the car has only 28k miles on it, so the battery should not be weak yet. I will bring the car back to the dealer (again) and have them check the 12-volt battery strength. But I am at the point where the "check system" messages are on more than they are working correctly.

I suddenly received errors that my sensors weren’t working, and I can no longer use my cruise control. The car has less than 60,000 miles so it still has the full bumper to bumper warranty. I have never had a collision. So I took it in to the dealer and they said the camera was mis-aligned and is not covered under warranty. It should be covered as I’ve never had a collision. Based on my online research, many people with Hyundai Ioniq 5s have experienced this same issue at no fault of their own, so it is a systemic problem. I took the vehicle to the Pohanka Hyundai in Fredricksburg, VA

Condensation builds in front of the camera. The car starts jerking all over the road with no warning. There is no error other than noticing that the car cannot keep itself in the lane. When trying to disable the features, they get turned back on automatically.

Vehicle disengaged lane keeping ADAS without warning multiple times. Sometimes a warning beep would occur, but often on turns it would suddenly disengage without a beep or any other warning method causing me to have to yank the wheel to complete the turn correctly and avoid running off the road. This has caused me to not trust the system and fight the lane keeping feature just in case it suddenly turns off and goes into the other lane before I have a chance to correct the steering.

3 issues: 1. 2 x, driving over a hundred miles the sensors get faults. None of the sensors work. Does not detect other cars. They updated my firmware, wiping the faults. 2. Once stopped at stop light, the sensors can start detecting items not there. 3. When parking the car does not detect items that are there. (I have video, dealerships so far refuses to fix) I am still trying to get them to fix it. Additional concern, talking to other drivers, they have similar issues and responses from the Hyundai dealerships. This is for both the Ioniq 5 and 6. Pictures: shows no other car image, or sensor detection. I took the picture a behind to give context. I can provide the videos if needed. Answers to question, separated with a comma: Yes, answered above, trying to get confirmed, the car has been inspected by Hyundai service center, and the errors were wiped by a update + reset.

In the event of a white out situation, the driver assistance systems fail to work due to hazardous conditions. You also cannot see out of the rear window or side mirrors because of a design defect. The car has been reported to Jenkins Hyundai of Ocala, where the service department is aware and informed me that Hyundai is aware of the safety concerns, but cannot fix the situation or will not offer a fix to the serious safety concern. The service department gave me the phone number to report this as a lemon to Hyundai Customer care where I was informed twice a manager named [XXX] has my case and would contact me, which she has not done. While driving on the interstate my 2023 Ioniq 5 SEL RWD experienced a failure with the front radar system stating that it was blocked. In reality there was nothing physically blocking the system which was verified on multiple pullovers to check the front of the vehicle. This caused the critical forward safety functions, HDA system, lane change assist functions, regeneration system, and smart cruise control to all be disabled. The car is available for inspection upon request and I have video of the car displaying the fault messages during the trip as it happened on multiple occasions.

PE23011 · Loss Of Motive Power

Opened Jun 8, 2023 · Closed Apr 17, 2024

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V Battery; Electrical System:propulsion System:dc/dc Converter

On June 8, 2023, the Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) opened PE23011 to investigate allegations of loss of motor power on model year (MY) 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles. Some consumers reported loss of motor power immediately after a warning lamp illumination or reduction of motive power while the vehicle was in motion. This investigation found that the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may be subject to various conditions such as overcurrent, overvoltage induced at the end of charging, and certain thermal loading during operation that can damage its internal components and open the ICCU fuse, resulting in an inability to charge the 12-volt battery. The vehicle could eventually lose all motive power, increasing the risk of a crash. In July 2023, Hyundai issued a service campaign to address certain MY 2022-2023 Ioniq 5 and MY 2023 Ioniq 6 vehicles that may have low 12V auxiliary battery charging occurrences due to an ICCU fault and may set the DTC P1A9096 “DC/DC Converter Input Voltage Sensor Fault”. On March 15, 2024, Hyundai filed Safety Recall 24V-204 for 98,878 MY 2022-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles and MY 2023-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6, Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70 “Electrified” and Genesis G80 “Electrified” vehicles. The recall remedy provides an inspection, and if necessary, a replacement of the ICCU and the associated fuse. The ICCU software reduces the risk of overcurrent and implements voltage peak reduction at the end of EV battery charging. The recall also includes a software update that revises the electric water pump operational threshold to reduce thermal loading during charging and driving. In view of the recall action being taken by Hyundai, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
