COMBINATION HEADLIGHT SWITCH WAS FAULTY. WHILE LOW BEAMS ARE ON, TOGGLING THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL ACTIVATES THE HIGH BEAM. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND PERFORMED THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH RECALL HOPING IT WOULD GET FIXED BUT THE RECALL ONLY ADDRESSED THE WIRING HARNESS. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AFTER THE RECALL. I GOOGLED IT AND IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. TOLD THE DEALER ABOUT WHAT I FOUND ONLINE AND WAS CHARGING ME EXTRA FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND REPLACING THE PART. WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAR I TOOK IT ON A ROAD TEST. THE TPMS LIGHT WAS ON. WE RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND HAD THEM CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE. AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR THE LIGHT CAME ON AS IT WISHED. ONE TIME THE CAR WAS PARKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS. I LEFT THE PARKING LOT AND DROVE A FEW MILES WHEN I HEARD A STRANGE ZINGING SOUND AND FELT A WIGGLING FEELING IN THE SEAT OF MY PANTS. I CHANGED LANES TO MAKE SURE IT WAS NOT THE PAVEMENT, IT WAS NOT. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND JUST AS I SLOWED DOWN I SAW THE YELLOW TPMS LIGHT COME ON. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND CHECKED MY TIRES. THE FIRST TIRE I CHECKED WAS THE LEFT REAR AND I FOUND IT WAS COMPLETELY FLAT. I GOT THE SPARE OUT ON MOUNTED IT. I CHECK THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE SPARE AND IT WAS 60 PSI. AS I PUT THE FLAT TIRE INTO THE BACK OF THE CAR I SAW A 4 INCH HOLE IN THE TREAD OF THE TIRE, WITH A PIECE OF TERRA COTTA COLORED CHUNK OF CERAMIC STICKING OUT OF THE TREAD. I GOT HOME AND I DISMOUNTED THE TIRE FROM THE WHEEL AND MOUNTED A NEW TIRE ON THE WHEEL AND INSTALLED THE WHEEL ON THE CAR. THE NEXT TIME I HAD THE YELLOW TPMS LIGHT COME ON WAS A YEAR OR SO LATER. THIS TIME THERE WAS NO FLAT TIRE AND I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THE DEALER REPLACE ONE OF THE SENSORS AND TOLD ME THE BATTERY HAD DIED. THE NEXT TIME I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE TPMS WAS A YEAR OR SO LATER. I WAS CROSSING A 5 MILE LONG BRIDGE AND THE LIGHT CAME ON. NO FLAT TIRES THIS TIME EITHER. I FOUND THAT WHEN EVER I CROSSED THIS PARTICULAR BRIDGE I SAW THE TPMS LIGHT COME ON. FINALLY THE LIGHT WENT OUT AND THEN AFTER SOME TIME THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. NO FLAT TIRE THEN EITHER. THIS SYSTEM IS SO FAULTY THAT IT CANNOT BE RELIED ON. THE BATTERY LIFE IS 5-12 YEARS, AVERAGE OF 7 YEARS AND MINE DID NOT LAST THE FIRST YEAR! THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS ARE $50.00 WHICH MAKES THEM RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE FOR AN ITEM THAT DOES NOT WORK.

TO ENSURE YOUR CONFIDENCE IN OUR PRODUCT, AMERICAN HONDA IS EXTENDING THE WARRANTY OF THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING TO 10 YEARS FROM THE ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE, OR 150,000 MILES, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST." IT STATES,"NO ACTION IS REQUIRED ON YOUR PART UNLESS YOU EXPERIENCE A PROBLEM." RIGHT SIDE DRIVE SHAFT OF FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE FAILED UNDER ACCELERATION CAUSING VEHICLE TO STOP IN INTERSECTION. EXAMINATION OF FAILED DRIVE SHAFT SHOWS CLASSIC FAILURE UNDER TORSION. THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS COMPROMISED BY SEVERE CORROSION THAT REDUCED THE DIAMETER OF THE DRIVE BY APPROXIMATELY HALF THE ORIGINAL DIAMETER. SEVERE CORROSION IS LOCATED DIRECTLY UNDER THE RUBBER VIBRATION DAMPER INSTALLED ON THE DRIVE SHAFT THAT TRAPPED WATER AND SALT GREATLY ACCELERATING CORROSION. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Acura ILX, 2013 Acura ILX Hybrid, 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid, and 2007-2008 Honda Fit vehicles with a manual transmission and 2009-2013 Honda Fit vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The drive shafts' protective coating may not have been applied properly during manufacturing, making it more susceptible to damage from road salt, or other contaminants, and potentially cause it to break.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A broken drive shaft may cause a sudden loss of drive power. The vehicle could also roll away if the parking brake has not been applied before the vehicle has been exited. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the drive shafts, replacing either the left or right drive shaft, if necessary, free of charge. Owners were notified of the safety risk with an interim letter mailed February 2, 2021. A second letter will be sent once the remedy is available. The vehicles are equipped with passenger frontal air bag inflators assembled as a recall remedy part or replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Honda is re-recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Fit vehicles covered under previous recall 10V-033. The remedy applied in this earlier recall may have been insufficient. In the affected vehicles, over time, the plastic cover may separate from the master power window switch allowing water to enter the driver's window and reach the master power window switch. If the master power window switch is damaged as a result of the water intrusion, overheating and failure of the switch may result.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An overheated switch can cause smoke, melting and fire.

Remedy: Honda will notify owners in July 2013 and will instruct owners to take their vehicles to dealers to have a free inspection conducted. If the switch is damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. If the switch is not damaged, the owner will be instructed to await a second notification that will instruct them to return to the dealer to have a replacement switch installed free of charge. Honda anticipates it will have sufficient parts inventory to notify owners of vehicles with undamaged switches to return to dealers for replacement switches in Fall 2013. HONDA IS RECALLING MODEL YEAR 2007-2008 HONDA FIT VEHICLES. DUE TO AN ERROR DURING INSTALLATION OF THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE COMBINATION SWITCH THAT CONTROLS LOW HEAD BEAM FUNCTION, THE WIRES FOR THE LOWER BEAM CIRCUIT WERE PULLED TIGHTER THAN INTENDED. AFTER REPEATED USE OF THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH, THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR TERMINAL FOR THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT CAN BECOME WORN AS A RESULT OF THIS TENSION, WHICH CAN RESULT IN LOW CONDUCTIVITY AND CAUSE AN ACCUMULATION OF COPPER OXIDE IN THE AREA OF THE CONTACTS.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS CAN BECOME INOPERATIVE DECREASING THE DRIVER'S VISIBILITY AS WELL AS THE VEHICLE'S VISIBILITY TO OTHER DRIVERS, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE LOW BEAM TERMINAL AND PERFORM NECESSARY REPAIRS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 24, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

In their Defect Information Report (DIR) of December 15, 2010, American Honda Motor Company, Inc. (Honda) notified NHTSA that it will conduct a safety recall of model year 2007 and 2008 Honda Fit vehicles to repair the headlights.The recall will remedy a defect in the low beam headlight circuit that can cause a total outage of the low beam headlights.Honda's DIR states: Due to a variation in the assembly sequence when installing the wiring harness for the combination switch that controls the headlights, the wires for the low beam headlight circuit can be pulled tighter than the wiring for the other functions controlled by the combination switch.After repeated use of the headlight switch, the electrical connector terminal for the low beam headlight circuit can become worn as a result of this tension, which can result in low conductivity and cause an accumulation of copper oxide in the area of the contacts.In some cases the poor conductivity may cause the terminal ends to melt within the wiring harness connector.If this occurs, the low beam headlights can become inoperative, increasing the risk of a crash. Honda dealer's will inspect the combination switch and wiring harness and remedy the defect free of charge.Please see safety recall file 10V624 for recall details
