Vehicle: 2024 Honda CR-V I am reporting a longstanding steering safety concern that existed well before my recent accident. I first reported steering problems to an authorized Honda dealership when my vehicle had approximately 1,155 miles. I reported difficulty with the steering wheel returning to center and the steering grabbing to one side. I subsequently returned to Honda multiple times for steering-related concerns. At approximately 2,121 miles I reported the vehicle pulling left or right on the highway. At approximately 4,910 miles I again reported pulling and a sensation that the steering wheel was pulling by itself. At approximately 5,693 miles I reported that the vehicle would move to the right at highway speed and required constant steering correction. At approximately 15,754 miles, I reported that the steering felt very tight and that two hands were necessary because of the high steering effort. At approximately 25,468 miles, after I reported that the steering was sticking, the steering gearbox/power-steering rack was replaced. I subsequently continued experiencing steering-related issues and returned for additional service. Most recently, at approximately 34,603 miles, I again reported tight steering, pulling to the right and shaking at highway speeds. On September 04, 2026, at approximately 38000 miles, while driving in wet conditions, I was involved in a loss-of-control/hydroplaning accident. During the event I was driving in traffic and following other vehicles, I was maintaining control of my vehicle with both hands on the steering wheel. During the incident, I suddenly noticed that the vehicle began pulling or steering sharply to the right, despite my efforts to maintain the vehicle's direction. 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport, bought new April 2024, still under 3yr/36k warranty. All four original tires (235/60R18) hit the wear indicators at about 23,000 miles, worn most at the inner shoulder. Serviced only at the selling Honda dealer with no missed intervals. Tires rotated at 5,450, 14,256 and 19,746 miles. Dealer performed a four wheel alignment at 14,256 miles. Pressures kept at door jamb spec. Never driven hard, off road, overloaded or towed with. Safety concern: the dealer documented a tire condition inspection at 19,746 miles on 06/09/2026, when tires were about 3,250 miles from the wear bars. They recommended an alignment but did not recommend tire replacement, did not disclose tread depth, and gave no warning the tires were near end of life. I kept driving at highway speed unaware tread was marginal, increasing hydroplaning and loss of control risk in wet conditions. The wear rate is abnormal for a vehicle maintained on schedule and aligned at 14,256 miles. The dealer said alignment now reads acceptable and refused to diagnose the cause. The General Manager declined assistance. American Honda reviewed it at district level and authorized nothing. No explanation was given. Honda TSB 20-081, Rapid Rear Tire Wear, names rear alignment as the cause on 2017-2020 CR-V and 2020 CR-V Hybrid. Many 2023-2024 CR-V Hybrid owners report original tires finished at 13,500 to 25,000 miles. Requesting investigation into premature and uneven tire wear on 2023 and later CR-V and CR-V Hybrid, including rear suspension geometry and factory alignment spec. No crash, fire or injury.

I own a 2024 Honda CR-V EX-L with approximately 59,628 miles. While driving the vehicle, multiple warning lights began flashing on the dashboard. At the same time, the vehicle became difficult to drive and did not feel as though it was operating normally. I was concerned for my safety because the problem occurred while the vehicle was being driven. The vehicle was taken to two different authorized Honda dealership for diagnosis. I was informed that the fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealership quoted approximately $2,500 for the repair and told me that the fuel-injector failure was considered normal “wear and tear.” I am concerned that fuel injectors would fail on a 2024 Honda CR-V with only approximately 59,628 miles. I am particularly concerned because the failure was accompanied by multiple dashboard warning lights and made the vehicle difficult to drive. I believe this issue should be investigated as a potential safety defect because a fuel-injector failure that affects the vehicle's drivability could create a dangerous situation while the vehicle is being operated. I have contacted American Honda Motor Co. regarding the issue and requested that Honda review the fuel-injector failure for applicable warranty, emissions-warranty, service campaign, or goodwill coverage.

The failure was intermittent. The dealer was contacted and diagnosed the vehicle with rack and pinion failure. The contact was informed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was previously repaired under warranty; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was contacted by phone and was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

The contact owns a 2024 Honda CR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V744000 (Steering), and the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the recall repair was completed; however, the failure occurred while driving. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and turning, the steering wheel made abnormal sounds, was sticking, and failed to return to center. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the contact was informed that a diagnostic fee was required, and the contact was asked to sign a document. The contact declined to pay the fee or sign the document. Additionally, the contact stated that the windshield wipers were malfunctioning, intermittently moving past the windshield trim and failing to touch the glass while operational. The dealer was notified of the windshield wiper failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

It was sunny, 91 degrees there were no cars, obstructions or shadows and the vehicle had been washed and clean 2 days before.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Acura Integra, Civic Type R, CR-V Hybrid, CR-V, HR-V, 2022-2025 Civic, Civic Hatchback, 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S, 2025 CR-V Fuel Cell EV, Civic Hybrid, and Civic Hatchback Hybrid vehicles. The steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can cause excessive internal friction and lead to difficulty steering the vehicle.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Difficulty steering can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the worm gear spring and redistribute or add grease as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 18, 2024. Owners may contact Honda Customer Service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are SJS, MJU, QJT and VJV.

Honda (America Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2024 CR-V vehicles. The tire identification number (TIN) is missing the four-digit date code. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 139, "New Pneumatic Radial Tires for Light Vehicles."

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An owner whose TIN information is missing may not recognize that their vehicle is involved in a safety recall and continue to drive on recalled tires, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the tires as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 27, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is BIS.

EA23003 · Momentary Increased Steering Effort

On November 29, 2023, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Engineering Analysis (EA23003) to assess allegations of momentary increase in steering effort in model years (MY) 2022-2023 Honda Civic, 2023MY Honda CR-V, and 2023MY Acura Integra vehicles (subject vehicles). The complaints received by ODI alleged that the subject vehicles experienced a momentary increase in required steering effort (described as “sticky steering”) occurring mostly at highway speeds after driving for an extended amount of time; these complaints could not be duplicated during dealer service technicians’ quick test drives.  The complaints had been received over the previous two years with most occurring with low vehicle mileage. The steering gear of these vehicles is aided by an electrical power assist unit. This power assist unit inputs force on the steering rack via a worm gear and worm wheel assembly. During PE23005, Honda stated this condition of momentary increase in steering effort occurs due to two factors within this power assist unit. First, during manufacturing, the steering worm wheel goes through annealing and component conditioning processes. These processes cause internal stress and strain within the steering worm  wheel. This strain is slowly released over the first few months of the vehicle life. Over time, the released strain causes deformation of the teeth on the worm wheel, causing the worm gear to catch on the worm wheel. This catching results in the driver’s momentary increased steering effort. Second, the manufacturing process did not guarantee consistent grease application and, therefore, some subject vehicles received insufficient grease which contributed to the momentary increase in steering effort. During EA23003, ODI further analyzed the potential safety related consequences of the momentary increase in steering effort. NHTSA’s Vehicle Research and Test Center (VRTC) duplicated the allegations of increased steering effort. In addition, VRTC discovered the steering worm wheel and worm gear tended to push grease out of the meshing area, resulting in large amounts of grease resting on top of the worm wheel. Information Request responses collected and reviewed by ODI showed Honda had also discovered this additional root cause during NHTSA’s EA. In addition, Honda discovered the preload of the worm wheel gear spring was set too high, increasing the gear slide load and resulting in higher friction and increased torque fluctuation when steering. The number of consumer complaints made to ODI continued to increase with the expansion of scope from the PE to the EA. Additionally, during EA23003, ODI received ten complaints alleging a crash, in addition to the 13 complaints ODI had received as of the time it opened EA23003. In total, 23 crashes have been reported to ODI due to this alleged defect. On October 3, 2024, Honda filed NHTSA Recall No. 24V-744 to address this defect. The recall will provide consumers with a new steering worm wheel gear spring with a decreased load. Additionally, dealerships will add additional grease and relocate any grease sitting on top of the worm wheel back into the meshing area. The scope of this recall includes all Honda vehicles that were manufactured with this specific improperly produced steering worm wheel and spring. In view of the recall action being taken by Honda, ODI is closing EA23003. NHTSA reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
