ON THE WAY TO SCHOOL THIS MORNING (2/8/2019), MY 11 YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER MENTIONED HER SEAT BELT BROKE (REAR DRIVER SEAT). SHE MOVED TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BACKSEAT (REAR PASSENGER SEAT). ONCE WE WERE STOPPED, I REALIZED WHAT SHE MEANT BY BROKEN: THE SEAT BELT HAD COMPLETELY FRAYED, BROKE COMPLETELY AND PULLED APART FROM IT'S INTERNAL HOUSING. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, ALL THREE SEAT BELTS IN THE BACK SEAT HAVE FRAYING. THE ONE SHE MOSTLY USED WAS COMPLETELY BROKEN. THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELT IS NOT USED AS OFTEN SO THE FRAY/CUT IS ABOUT 1/3 OF THE WIDTH OF THE SEAT BELT. THE REAR MIDDLE SEAT HAS THE LEAST DAMAGE, BUT IS STILL FRAYED/CUT. NO ONE CAN NOW SIT IN THE BACK SEAT WITH FAULTY SEAT BELTS. THE HOUSING SEEMS EXCESSIVELY SHARP AND THAT'S WHAT IS CAUSING THEM TO BE CUT. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALER ASKING FOR A MANAGER, BUT AS OF SUBMITTING THIS, I HAVEN'T RECEIVED A RETURN CALL.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2023 Honda Accord, Civic Coupe, Civic Sedan, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline, Odyssey, Acura ILX, MDX, MDX Hybrid, RDX, RLX, TLX, 2019-2022 Honda Insight, Passport, 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid, 2018-2019 Honda Clarity PHEV, Fit, and 2015-2020 Honda Accord Hybrid, Pilot, Acura NSX vehicles. The fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 6, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are KGC and KGD. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall numbers 21V-215 and 20V-314.

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.
