The steering is sticking and slipping when coming out of a turn. This usually occurs at speeds over 45 mph. When you start to come out of a turn, it’s as if the wheel is momentarily stuck in the turn and then slips 2 to 3 degrees. If feels like the wheel is not responding, and it’s quite frightening not knowing if the car is going to respond to the wheel. It’s hard for the technicians to duplicate, because it does not happen every time (at least for now). This is a huge safety issue that Honda needs to repair. The part was quoted at $2000, and because there are so many vehicles affected, it is on “unknown amount of time” back order. Please NHTSA do something about this.

The steering tends to stick when driving at highway speeds. This issue makes small steering movements jerky and causes over corrections. The dealership stated they were not able to duplicate it. This is a known issue for this generation.

While driving my 2017 Honda Civic, I notice that the steering wheel sticks while trying to keep the car centered. While driving, as the car needs to be slightly adjusted at the end range it sticks and I have to add a little force to get it to recorrect which causes a slight overcorrection. Honda says that it looks like I need a new rack and pinion system on my 2017 Honda with less than 60,000 miles. The sticking can be significant. Honda says while there are Recalls on steering components in the 2017 Honda Civic my vin number is not included. This has been an on-going issue for over six months.

I am experiencing sticky steering wheel. This is a known issue in Honda vehicles. It causes over correcting to right or left at all speeds, but more prominent during highway driving. Many vehicles have been recalled but for some reason my VIn isn’t listed but clearly has a defect in the steering.

The front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, which can cause the air bags to deploy unintentionally during a crash.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Air bags that deploy unintentionally during a crash increase the risk of injury.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the seat weight sensors, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 7, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe vehicles. The right halfshaft may have been improperly heat treated, reducing its strength.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: The improper heat treatment can result in the halfshaft breaking, preventing the engine from moving the vehicle, and can allow a possible roll away situation if the parking brake is not engaged. This can increase the risk of a crash.
