My automatic braking system randomly halted me to a stop in the middle of a clear road and almost caused the person behind me to crash into me even though they were back away from me a safe distance. This has happened several times now and it scares me a lot every time it happens. Makes me want to sell the car. I looked it up and saw that many other people online have had an issue with this feature. I also learned there’s no way for me to fully disable the feature which is frustrating. I can only turn it off manually each time I turn my car on. This feature is not safe and has put my life at risk way more times than it has been helpful.

On December 9, 2023, while driving my brand new 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring HPD package on the highway during snowy conditions at less than 50 mph less than 8000 miles on the odometer after my first oil change the automatic emergency braking (AEB) system suddenly and unexpectedly engaged with no obstacle, vehicle, or pedestrian ahead, causing the vehicle to skid uncontrollably and slam into a concrete highway barrier. The car was towed from the scene, and I was hospitalized for injuries sustained in the high-speed impact. The AEB component or system malfunctioned by activating without cause; it was inspected by police at the scene and I contacted Honda’s safety team to conduct an investigation. This unintended braking put my safety at extreme risk by inducing sudden deceleration and loss of control on a slippery highway, which could have endangered following traffic as well. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a Honda dealer or independent service center since the vehicle was not repaired. Police inspected it at the crash scene and issued me a ticket for “driving too fast for conditions” despite my explanation of the sudden braking; no manufacturer inspection of the AEB occurred, though I contacted Honda’s safety team and they attributed it to not following the owner’s guidebook without further review. Prior to driving, all dashboard warning lights illuminated unexpectedly; I turned the vehicle completely off, restarted it, and the lights disappeared with no further symptoms until the AEB engaged abruptly on the highway. This matches ongoing NHTSA investigations into Honda Accord and CR-V vehicles for braking problems, including false AEB activations.

Similar to the earlier problems with fuel pumps where a partial recall was extended to the same model built in later years, I am suggesting Honda needs to repeat the extended warranty to include 2023 models. I am bringing this issue to your attention in case others are having the same experience.

MY CAR HAS A HOLE IN THE MOTOR, THE THROW ROD SHOT OUT OF IT. THE DEALERSHIP CLASSIC HONDA REFUSED TO DO ANY REAL INVESTIGATION AND IS RELYING SOLELY ON THE DIPSTICK READING. THIS CLEARLY VIOLATES ME IN PLENTY OF WAYS THIS IS WHAT I SENT THEM. I am formally escalating this matter and requesting immediate supervisory review and intervention regarding the inspection and handling of my 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid. The dealership is relying solely on a dipstick reading taken from an engine with a breached engine block. Once the engine block is compromised, the crankcase is no longer sealed, and oil redistributes into different internal cavities and passages. Under these conditions, a dipstick reading is not a reliable or valid method to determine pre-failure oil quantity or causation. I specifically requested that the oil pan drain plug be removed so the oil could be measured directly, which would provide an accurate and objective assessment of oil quantity. This request was refused. I was told, verbatim, that the dealership would not touch the vehicle any further. This refusal to perform a basic, non-destructive verification step, while continuing to rely on an unreliable post-failure dipstick reading, is not consistent with proper diagnostic procedure or good-faith warranty investigation. At this point, I am requesting: Immediate supervisory review of this case Assignment of a qualified Honda representative or supervisor to oversee a proper inspection Documentation explaining why a direct oil measurement was refused Confirmation that the vehicle and all components remain preserved for further review I am not asking for speculation or opinion. I am requesting a proper, objective, and technically sound investigation. Please treat this as a formal escalation request. I am prepared to pursue arbitration and further remedies if this matter continues to be handled without appropriate diagnostic standards. I request a response within 48 hours. RQ24006 · Front Seat Belt Assemblies May Be Missing The Rivet That Secures The Quick Connector And Wire Plate

Opened Apr 4, 2024 · Closed Mar 26, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Seat Belts; Seat Belts:front

On April 4, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ24006 to investigate American Honda Motor Co.’s (Honda’s) proposed remedy for recall 23V-782 as well as scope of the vehicles involved. Honda issued recall 23V-782 on November 21, 2023, which concerns certain model year (MY) 2023-2024 Honda Accord, Honda Accord Hybrid, and Honda HR-V vehicles. Recall 23V-782 states that the driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioner assemblies may have been manufactured without a rivet that secures the pretensioner quick connector and wire plate. Recall documentation states that seat belt pretensioner assemblies that are missing the rivet will not properly restrain the occupant in the event of a collision, increasing the risk of injury.Subject defective seat belt assemblies are installed as original equipment for both the driver and front passenger positions for the HR-V, but only for the driver position for the Accord and Accord Hybrid. The recall remedy for 23V-782 instructs the technician to inspect both front seat belt pretensioner assemblies and, if necessary, replace them. The inspection procedure requires the technician to utilize a pull force gauge to determine whether the subject component is missing the subject rivet and requires replacement. Parts requiring replacement are determined by whether the pretensioner quick connector separates from the pretensioner assembly while the technician is pulling on the seat belt. If no separation occurs, then the part is determined to be not defective and not require replacement. There have been no reports alleging a failure of seat belt pretensioner assemblies after the inspect and replace remedy for recall 23V-782 was performed. Additionally, no comparable failures have been observed in field data for similar vehicles outside of the scope of the recall. As of the 4th quarter of 2024, the recall completion rate is at approximately 84% of the total recalled population. In view of the lack of failures after the remedy for recall 23V-782 was performed, and the lack of failures in similar vehicles outside of the scope of the recall, ODI is closing this Recall Query (RQ). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
