Today was the 4th time my vehicle breaked on its own without any reason. The prior breaking, I kinda shrugged off thinking it maybe sensed another vehicle and was being cautious. However, today I was traveling north hwy 11 and there was nothing in front of me. My car abruptly and violetly slammed on its breaks for no reason at all. The violent deceleration caused my head and neck to whip and my neck is still very sore along with headache. There was no vehicles, pedestrians or obstacles in front of the car. There was a car coming in the opposite direction but it was approximately 200-300 feet away. This almost caused me to crash and was very upsetting. There was no warning whatsoever for this extreme break. I am grateful that the car traveling behind me did not hit me or run off the road. It was very violent and scary. I was traveling at 55 mph when this occurred. Today is Saturday and I was not able to reach anyone at the dealerships service department but I will be contacting them Monday morning. Please advise as to what my options are. Thank you.

After 5-7 days of normal driving both systems will turn back on and thereafter work for 5-7 days before turning off once again. I have not been involved in any accidents. I’m afraid off unprovoked braking from these electrical safety support systems not working correctly causing possible serious injury to me and others and also causing me emotional mental anxiety while driving due to documentation of these issues in my specific Honda causing possible accidents due to the faulty safety support systems I’m experiencing.

On multiple occasions, I have been traveling at high speeds 70-75 MPH when the orange BRAKE signal appears across the screen, and the car abruptly slams on the brake with no other vehicles around me. It forcefully threw me forward. We have had Honda vehicle in for service many times, the dealership are never able to duplicate the problem because it happens sporadically. It is extremely dangerous, and I don't ever feel safe in the vehicle, and I don't feel comfortable using the adaptive cruise control. In the past we have always owned Honda's and never ever felt unsafe. This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed quickly.

The contact owns a 2022 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. Multiple warning lights illuminated intermittently: TPMS, ABS, Traction, brake system, power steering, Uphill, and Cruise Control. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) unexpectedly triggered, and the vehicle braked without warning. The contact had no control over the steering wheel; the wheel ended up doing a 180-degree turn, and the front driver-side wheel detached. The vehicle ended up going into a ditch, where it came to a stop. No air bags deployed. The contact went to urgent care afterward, and the doctor prescribed muscle relaxers for minor back injuries. The police were called; however, no police report was filed. The tire was attached back to the vehicle, and the vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to an electrical issue. The dealer completed a full tune-up. The dealer test drove the vehicle, and multiple warning lights illuminated. The dealer reset the system on the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that a month before the accident, while the vehicle had maintenance work done, the contact informed the dealer that the vehicle was "acting weird." No cause for the failure was found on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.

Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? By the manufacturer (dealership) on multiple occasions, I was instructed to unplug the vehicle’s battery. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, about a year and a half ago.

On February 21, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation (PE22003) to assess reports of inadvertent activation of the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), an automatic emergency braking (AEB) system, in model year 2017-2019 Honda CR-V and 2018-2019 Honda Accord vehicles. The reports allege that activation of the AEB system occurs while driving with no apparent obstruction in the vehicle's forward path, resulting in sudden vehicle deceleration. Honda indicated that they were aware of a total of X,XXX reports that may relate to the alleged defect. Honda provided analysis of the alleged defect and alleges that some customers possibly had an inadequate understanding of the CMBS and its limitations. However, many consumer complaints allege that Honda dealerships were unable to reproduce the condition or state that they were informed that this is considered normal CMBS operation. To date, ODI has received a total of 1,294 consumer complaints of inadvertent activation of CMBS in 2017-2022 Honda CR-V and 2018-2022 Honda Accord vehicles. A total of 31 complaints alleged a crash and 50 alleged an injury. The Total column in the Failure Report Summary removes duplicate reports and shows the total number of reports with unique VINs from all Manufacturer, ODI, and EWR data sources. In some cases, there were multiple reports associated with a particular vehicle in which recurring failures were alleged. In total, there were X,XXX reports, 93 injury incidents and 47 crashes involving vehicles with unique VINs that may relate to the alleged defect. PE22-003 has been upgraded to an Engineering Analysis to further assess the scope, frequency, and potential safety related consequences of the inadvertent AEB activations. The scope has been expanded to include assessment of model year 2020-2022 Honda CR-V and Accord vehicles. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
