AT 25,000, WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICING, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE PADS WERE WORN DOWN TO LESS THAN 2/32 AND THAT THE RIVETS ON THE PADS WERE SCORING THE ROTORS AND IT WAS NEEDING A COMPLETE BRAKE JOB. I FELT THIS WAS RAPID WEAR AND AFTER READING COMMENTS FROM OTHER HONDA OWNERS FOUND THERE MAY HAVE BEEN ENGINEERING ISSUES WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM STEMMING FROM AN"ENHANCEMENT" AND REDESIGN OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM.

2008 HONDA ACCORD. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 45,000 MILES THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE DECLARED WORN OUT BY THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER, THE FRONT BRAKES HOWEVER WERE DEEMED IN "GOOD CONDITION" AND NEEDED NO MAINTENANCE, WE HAVE DISCOVERED THIS REAR BRAKE PROBLEM, KNOWN TO THE HONDA , IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN MATERIALS, DISCOVERED THROUGH A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT THAT HAS BEEN SETTLED OUT OF COURT. THE REASON FOR THE PREMATURE REAR BRAKE FAILURE HOWEVER IS STILL UNKNOWN TO HONDA OWNERS. DESPITE THE KNOWN DEFECT HONDA HAS FAILED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND HAS NOT NOTIFIED THE OWNERS THOUGH ITS "HONDA OWNER LINK WEBSITE" OR ANY OTHER OFFICIAL HONDA NOTIFICATIONS. HONDA STATES IT RELIES ON THE COMPANY THAT BROUGHT THE LAW SUIT TO NOTIFY HONDAS CUSTOMERS. THIS WOULD REPRESENT AN ATTEMPT TO SHIFT RESPONSIBILITY TO A THIRD COMPANY FOR HONDA'S KNOWN DEFECT IN ITS REAR BRAKES. IT IS STILL UNKNOWN WHETHER IT IS A MATERIAL OR SYSTEM PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM. MANY OWNERS ARE UNAWARE OF THIS SAFETY DEFECT IN THEIR VEHICLES BRAKING SYSTEM. HONDA DEALERS ARE ALSO RELUCTANT TO DISCUSS THIS PROBLEM. THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE RECALLED FOR BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT AND OR EBD ADJUSTMENTS TO PREVENT PREMATURE REAR BRAKE FAILURES. HONDA ALSO NEEDS TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION TO NOTIFY THE OWNERS OF AFFECTED VEHICLES. *TT

I PURCHASED A NEW 2008 HONDA ACCORD FROM WHAT IS NOW KNOWN AS BEL AIR HONDA. I HAD LESS THAN 50,000 MILES WHEN I HAD TWO SETS OF REAR BRAKE PADS REPLACED. THE 2ND SET WAS REPLACED WITH A 3RD. AT APPROX. 37,000 MILES AND THE REPLACEMENT WAS AT MY EXPENSE. THE FIRST TWO TIMES I WAS REIMBURSED FOR THE INSTALL, BUT THE 3RD TIME THE DEALER AND HONDA SAID SORRY THIS ONES ON YOU. I FEEL THIS EXPENDITURE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN MINE TO PAY. IN LESS THAN 50,000 MILES I HAD TWO POWER STEERING PUMPS REPLACED. THE 4TH TIME THE STEERING BOX ALSO WAS DAMAGED AND IT TO REPLACED. THIS LAST TIME I WAS TOLD THIS AGAIN WAS MY EXPENSE SO AGAIN THEIR PROBLEM BECAME MINE. THIS TIME THE DEALER, BEL AIR HONDA SAID LUCKY I BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OR THE COST TO ME WOULD HAVE BEEN APPROXIMATELY $1,600.00. MY WORRY IS THAT I COULD HAVE A STEERING OR BRAKE FAILURE WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE CAUSING AN INJURY TO ME OR SOMEONE ELSE. I HAVE VOICED MY CONCERNS TO BOTH AMERICAN HONDA AND BEL AIR HONDA. THEY BLAME ONE ANOTHER REGARDING THE MECHANICAL FAILURES TO MY CAR. THE DEALER SAID HONDA SENT THEM DEFECTIVE PARTS AND HONDA SAID ITS A INSTALL PROBLEM. I HAVE SENT AND SPOKE TO MANY REPRESENTATIVES OF HONDA MOTORS AND THERE RESPONSE TO ME AMOUNTED TO THEM SUGGESTING THINGS WILL BE GETTING BETTER AND HANG IN THERE. SO I HAVE A CAR THAT I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING THAT NO ONE SEEMS TO BE CONCERNED WITH. THEIR PHILOSOPHY SEEMS TO BE, GET IT REPAIRED AND MAYBE YOU'LL HAVE BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME. MY HONDA IS TRUE AND ITS BEEN A TOTAL SAD EXPERIENCE FOR ME. THEIR THE GOLIATH AND I'M DAVID WITH NO RECOURSE TO THE TOTAL DISREGARD TO MY ON PROBLEM. HONDA PROBABLY HAS A GOOD TRACK RECORD, BUT IF YOU ARE HAVING A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THEIR CAR LIKE I HAVE, YOU GET NO SATISFACTORY HELP FROM THE AUTOMOBILE GIANT. THERE IS A LOT MORE TO THIS SORRY SITUATION, BUT I AM OR WILL GO OVER THE LIMIT I AM ALLOWED IN THIS COMPLAINT MEMO. YOUR HELP IN GETTING MY STORY TOLD WILL BE APPRECIATED. UPDATED IVOQ 09/07/11. *KB

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 ACCORD, 2007-2010 CR-V, AND 2005-2008 ELEMENT PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2004, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3, 2010. THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING MAY BE BROKEN DURING CERTAIN DRIVING STYLES. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. ADDITIONALLY, BROKEN PIECES OF THE OUTER RACE OR BALL BEARING FROM THE SECONDARY SHAFT MAY BECOME LODGED IN THE PARKING PAWL RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING AFTER THE DRIVER HAS PLACED THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE PARK POSITION. ENGINE STALL AND UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY TO PERSONS WITHIN THE PATH OF A ROLLING VEHICLE.
Remedy: HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 27, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

As discussed further below, and by letter dated January 22, 2016, Honda is recalling certain model year (MY) 2008 through 2010 Honda Accords to replace a defective air bag/SRS control module that can result in the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) becoming fully inoperative (disabled).See NHTSA Safety Recall 16V056 at SaferCar.gov for further details.Honda's response to an agency Information Request letter indicated that the SRS module was manufactured by tier-one supplier Continental and contained a power supply ASIC manufactured by tier-two supplier Atmel. The original ASIC was susceptible to a moisture ingress issue due to inadequate ASIC passivation layer.Water ingress could result in moisture reaching the Titanium Nitride (TiN) layer in the ASIC causing corrosion and breakage of electrical circuits. The damaged ASIC then causes failures of the SRS module resulting in 1) incomplete boot-up when power is supplied to the module or 2) the inability of the module to establish either internal or external bus communications. In either case the air bag readiness indicator light on the instrument cluster is illuminated and all air bags and seat belt pretensioners are disabled.During the investigation, ODI obtained the SRS module from a complainant crash vehicle where the air bags did not deploy despite a significant frontal impact. An inspection of the module was performed at a Continental facility. The inspection confirmed that the module had the ASIC fault thus preventing the SRS module from completing the boot-up process. An attempt was made to recover stored EDR data from the module however none was present; this outcome is consistent with an Atmel ASIC failure.A second SRS module alleged to have the ASIC problem was inspected during the same visit. This second module was unable to communicate with the test equipment. The ASIC was replaced on this module and full function was restored to the module confirming the ASIC as the cause of the SRS module fault.According to Honda, tier-two Atmel implemented three different corrective actions in early 2008.Implementation of the corrective actions into module production by tier-one Continental, and into vehicle production by Honda resulted in three distinct vehicle populations. The first population consists of certain non-consecutively built MY 2008 to 2010 Accords with modules that did not contain any of the corrective actions. This population of 341,444 vehicles exhibited a significant level of module failure in service and is thus being recalled. The second population of 382,693 non-consecutively built MY 2008 to 2010 Accords contained two of the three corrective actions. This population exhibited a significantly lower level of SRS module failure, compared to the first population, but a marginally higher level compared to the third population.Honda is conducting a 15 year unlimited mileage extended warranty program for this second population.Under the program Honda will replace the SRS module free of charge for vehicles that experience an SRS module malfunction due to ASIC failure.Owners eligible for the extended warranty will be notified by Honda in writing. The third population consists of vehicles containing all three corrective actions, this population exhibits a normal level of SRS module failure.Based on the safety recall and extended warranty this investigation is closed. The VOQ reports cited above can be reviewed at SaferCar.gov under the following identification numbers: 10871612, 10869953, 10810554, 10788238, 10781994, 10778712, 10765025, 10761583, 10759019, 10758622, 10747850, 10735806, 10734761, 10733519, 10715339, 10703521, 10676517, 1065
