THEIR RECOMMENDATION WAS FOR ME TO HAVE MY CAR LOOKED AT BY A CERTIFIED HONDA TECHNICIAN. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR JANUARY 25TH AND TOOK THE CAR IN. THE CERTIFIED DEALER IN COUNTRYSIDE CALLED TO TELL ME HE WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN DID AN UPLOAD OF MORE RECENT SOFTWARE AND THE ISSUE SEEMED TO BE FIXED. I WAS SKEPTICAL. WHEN I ARRIVED TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE, I WAS SHOWN A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT HONDA SERVICE WAS RECEIVING NOTIFYING THEM OF THE ISSUE. I ASKED WHY HONDA WAS NOT ACTIVELY RECALLING THE CARS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW WHY. *TR

I TRIED TO TALK WITH HONDA, THEY DID PAY FOR MOST OF THEM REPAIRS BUT REFUSED TO ADMIT IT WAS A PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP NEVER COULD TELL ME WHY IT WAS HAPPENING, JUST KEPT REPLACING THE ACTUATORS. I GOT TIRED OF FIGHTING WITH THEM, THAT IS WHY THE LAST ONE HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED. THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST HONDA. I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY SERVICE FROM HONDA. WE BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW OFF THE LOT AND IT STARTED WITHIN A YEAR AND A HALF OF PURCHASE. *TR

CAR CUT OFF WHILE IN STORE FOR FIVE MINUTES WAS TOLD THAT IF YOU LEAVE KEYS IN IGNITION WHILE OFF IT DRAINS THE BATTERY. NO CAR IN MY LIFE THAT EVER HAPPENED AFTER LEAVING THE RADIO IN THE CAR ON AND DRAINED THE BATTERY. *TR HAD A PROBLEM WITHIN 3 MONTHS OF BUYING A 2008 HONDA. CAR CUT OFF AND WOULDN'T START. AND IT DID IT AGAIN LAST NIGHT TOOK IT IN BEFORE AND THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT IN BATTERY WAS FINE AND THEY CHECK THE BATTERY TODAY AND THEY SAID IT WAS NO GOOD BUT IT HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CAR AND IT HAPPENED TO OTHER PEOPLE AND WHICH SHOULDN'T HAPPENED CUT OFF LAST NIGHT AND NO KEY IN THE IGNITION AND BATTERY DIED. SPOKE TO [XXX] STORE MANAGER AND SPOKE TO SERVICE MANAGER AND REFUSE TO CHANGE THE BATTERY. ALL THEY DID WAS CHARGE UP BATTERY. CAUSE THEY WANTED ME TO PURCHASE A BATTERY FOR 159.00 WHICH THERE IS A PROBLEM. BECAUSE THERE WAS A PROBLEM FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR. AND BROUGHT IN FOR SAME THING NOW LESS THAN A YEAR. HONDA TOLD ME THAT IF YOU LEAVE KEY IN CAR THAT THE CAR STILL IS DRAWING POWER EVEN THOUGH KEY IS OFF. I KID YOU NOT MY MOM WAS IN THE CAR FOR FIVE MINS AND BATTERY DIED. HONDA OF ROANOKE RAPIDS DON'T CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DOING WHAT IS RIGHT TO SATISFY THE CUSTOMER. BATTERY WAS GOING BAD BEFORE. I WILL NEVER BUY A CAR AGAIN FROM THEM. AND I HAVE THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AND AMERICAN HONDA FORCED ME TO GET IT AND WONT COVER SQUAT. I WAS FORCED TO TAKE IT BY AMERICAN HONDA OR ELSE THEY WOULD APPROVE MY LOAN. THIS WAS HONDA OF ROANOKE RAPIDS. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

I MENTIONED THIS TO THE MAINTENANCE EXPERTS AT METRO HONDA, BUT THEY STILL DO NOT CARE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS A SITUATION THAT IS NOT ON A RECALL LIST. WHAT SHOULD I DO? *TR

THE LIGHTS WOULD BLINK EVERY 35 -45 SEC. THE HEAT WAS ON SINCE IT IS COLD IN NH IN JAN. I WHEN TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY ASKED IF THE HEAT WAS ON,AND TO TRY SHUTTING THE HEATER OFF TO SEE IF IT STOPPED, WHICH IT DID. MY CONCERN IS TRAFFIC AT INTERSECTING ROADS COULD ASSUME THAT I AM FLASHING THE LIGHTS TO LET THEM PROCEED. NOT TO MENTION THAT IT IS AGGRAVATING AND THIS IS THE FIRST VEHICLE THAT I HAVE OWNED IN OVER 40 YEARS OF DRIVING THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM. I SEE THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE BUT HONDA SAYS THAT IS THE WAY IT IS. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE IN THIS VEHICLE OR ANY OTHER VEHICLE IN THE 21ST CENTURY. *TR

MOTOR SHUTS DOWN REGARDLESS OF SPEED AND CAN SOMETIMES BE RESTARTED BY APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH KEY FORWARD TO RESTART IF POSSIBLE WHILE ON ROADWAY. OTHERWISE, MUST EXECUTE A QUICK RESPONSE TO LOSING POWER BRAKING, STEERING AND ETC. AND DRIVE TO SAFETY AT OFF ROAD LOCATION. UPON REMOVING THE IGNITION KEY FROM SWITCH MODULE, THE METAL KEY WAS EXTREMELY HOT, STARTING ENGINE BACK UP OFTEN WAS NOT POSSIBLE UNTIL IGNITION SWITCH AND KEY COOLED DOWN. THIS OCCURRENCE PUT AN UNREASONABLE RISK ON OCCUPANTS DUE POSSIBLE ACCIDENTS. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE. HOWEVER, REJECTION OF APPLYING RECALL TO MY VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH THE SITUATION WAS EXACTLY IDENTICAL TO RECALL BY HONDA DEALER, WHO REPLACED SWITCH AT MY EXPENSE AND REFUSED TO CONSIDER THAT RECALL APPLIED TO THE IGNITION UNIT AS NOT ON RECALL LIST. I QUESTIONED SENSIBILITY OF THIS AS MY CAR'S IGNITION SWITCH WAS MALFUNCTIONING EXACTLY AS THE IGNITION SWITCH UNDER RECALL. DUE TO DEALER'S DISPOSAL AND INABILITY TO RETRIEVE REPLACED ITEM, UNABLE TO COMPARE PART NUMBER TO HONDA'S LIST OF BAD SWITCH COMPONENTS. I HAVE PLACED A COMPLAINT WITH HONDA MOTORS U.S.A., CASE #[XXX] WHICH WAS REJECTED DUE THAT THEY DON'T SHOW VIN# IS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I QUESTIONED THIS WITH THEM AS RECALL AND ACTUAL EVENTS OCCURRING WITH MY AUTO WERE IDENTICAL. THEY ADVISED THAT REFUND OF THE $184.74 FOR REPLACING THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE EVEN THOUGH PROBLEM WAS IDENTICAL WITH RECALL AS MY VEHICLE WASN'T INCLUDED. *TR

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Air Bags; Air Bags:frontal:sensor/control MODULE-INACTIVE
As discussed further below, and by letter dated January 22, 2016, Honda is recalling certain model year (MY) 2008 through 2010 Honda Accords to replace a defective air bag/SRS control module that can result in the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) becoming fully inoperative (disabled).See NHTSA Safety Recall 16V056 at SaferCar.gov for further details.Honda's response to an agency Information Request letter indicated that the SRS module was manufactured by tier-one supplier Continental and contained a power supply ASIC manufactured by tier-two supplier Atmel. The original ASIC was susceptible to a moisture ingress issue due to inadequate ASIC passivation layer.Water ingress could result in moisture reaching the Titanium Nitride (TiN) layer in the ASIC causing corrosion and breakage of electrical circuits. The damaged ASIC then causes failures of the SRS module resulting in 1) incomplete boot-up when power is supplied to the module or 2) the inability of the module to establish either internal or external bus communications. In either case the air bag readiness indicator light on the instrument cluster is illuminated and all air bags and seat belt pretensioners are disabled.During the investigation, ODI obtained the SRS module from a complainant crash vehicle where the air bags did not deploy despite a significant frontal impact. An inspection of the module was performed at a Continental facility. The inspection confirmed that the module had the ASIC fault thus preventing the SRS module from completing the boot-up process. An attempt was made to recover stored EDR data from the module however none was present; this outcome is consistent with an Atmel ASIC failure.A second SRS module alleged to have the ASIC problem was inspected during the same visit. This second module was unable to communicate with the test equipment. The ASIC was replaced on this module and full function was restored to the module confirming the ASIC as the cause of the SRS module fault.According to Honda, tier-two Atmel implemented three different corrective actions in early 2008.Implementation of the corrective actions into module production by tier-one Continental, and into vehicle production by Honda resulted in three distinct vehicle populations. The first population consists of certain non-consecutively built MY 2008 to 2010 Accords with modules that did not contain any of the corrective actions. This population of 341,444 vehicles exhibited a significant level of module failure in service and is thus being recalled. The second population of 382,693 non-consecutively built MY 2008 to 2010 Accords contained two of the three corrective actions. This population exhibited a significantly lower level of SRS module failure, compared to the first population, but a marginally higher level compared to the third population.Honda is conducting a 15 year unlimited mileage extended warranty program for this second population.Under the program Honda will replace the SRS module free of charge for vehicles that experience an SRS module malfunction due to ASIC failure.Owners eligible for the extended warranty will be notified by Honda in writing. The third population consists of vehicles containing all three corrective actions, this population exhibits a normal level of SRS module failure.Based on the safety recall and extended warranty this investigation is closed. The VOQ reports cited above can be reviewed at SaferCar.gov under the following identification numbers: 10871612, 10869953, 10810554, 10788238, 10781994, 10778712, 10765025, 10761583, 10759019, 10758622, 10747850, 10735806, 10734761, 10733519, 10715339, 10703521, 10676517, 1065
