92V118000 · Vehicle Speed Control:linkages

Aug 14, 1992

A LEAK OF EITHER GASOLINE OR PROPANE CAN OCCUR IN COMPONENTS OF THE DUAL FUEL SYSTEM. THIS CONDITION IS PRIMARILY THE RESULT OF THE CONFIGURATION AND LOCATION OF COMPONENTS IN AREAS WHERE HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE BEING GENERATED BY THE ENGINE AND EXHAUST SYSTEMS.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: FUEL LEAKS CAN RESULT IN FIRES WHEN EXPOSED TO A SOURCEOF IGNITION.

Remedy: REMOVE THE DUAL FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS, SEAL THE PROPANE TANK LIQUID WITHDRAWAL VALVE, AND RESTORE A VIABLE GASOLINE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM.

INADEQUATE FASTENING OF THE BRACKETS TO THE FRAME RAIL FOR HOLDING THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE AND GAS RETURN LINES MAY ALLOW FLEXING AND POSSIBLE CHAFING OF THE LINE. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: LINES COULD WEAR THROUGH AND RUPTURE RESULTING IN (1) LEAKAGE OF GASOLINE WHICH IS A FIRE HAZARD AND/OR (2) LOSS OF HYDRAULIC FLUID, CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKES TO THE REAR AXLES WHICH MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.

Remedy: INSTALL APPROPRIATE FASTENERS/BRACKETS TO SECURE THE LINES TO THE FRAME RAIL.

SEAM LEAKS MAY DEVELOP IN THE 70 GALLON ALUMINUM FUEL TANK, ALLOWING GASOLINE TO SPILL ON THE GROUND. THIS IS DUE TO POOR SEAM WELDING. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT. GASOLINE SPILLAGE CREATES A FIRE HAZARD.

Remedy: INSTALL A NEW FUEL TANK.

THE FUEL SWITCH ON THE DUAL FUEL CONTROL HAS BEEN WIRED INCORRECTLY. THE SWITCH WAS WIRED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE DRIVER COULD BE PUMPING PROPANE TO THE CARBURETOR.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL REWIRE THE FUEL SELECT SWITCH AT NO CHARGE TO OWNER.
