TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HARLEY DAVIDSON FXDL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD A REAR WHEEL BEARING FAILURE THAT ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO MERGE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND THE MOTORCYCLE WAS NO LONGER DRIVABLE. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TOWED THE DEALER (SIMI VALLEY HARLEY-DAVIDSON 6190 CONDOR DR, MOORPARK, CA 93021 (805) 552-9555) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR WHEEL BEARING FAILED AND IT ALSO DAMAGED THE REAR WHEEL, THE BRAKE PAD, THE ROTOR AND THE AXLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,364. *DT*JB
Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain model year 2014.5-2016 Dyna Low Rider motorcycles (FXDL 103) manufactured January 6, 2014 to April 7, 2016. In the affected motorcycles, engine vibrations may damage the ignition switch internally and, as a result, the engine may shut off while riding.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If the engine shuts off, the motorcycle would stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Harley-Davidson will notify owners, and dealers will install an improved ignition switch, free of charge. The recall began on June 3, 2016. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0168.
