I HAVE MICHELIN XRV TIRES ON MY MOTORHOME AND RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT EVEN THOUGH I MAINTAIN MY TIRES PERFECTLY. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE MICHELIN XRV TIRES! MY TIRE WAS A XRV 235/80R22.5. IT WAS ALMOST 5 YEARS OLD AND LOOKED BRAND NEW WITH NO CRACKS AND ALMOST NO TREAD WEAR AT ALL.

THE HEAT SHIELD WHICH PREVENTS THE THROTTLE CABLE FROM COMING INTO DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS OMITTED. ALSO, THERE IS INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE THROTTLE CABLE AND THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. IN EITHER CASE, THE HEAT FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD DAMAGES THE THROTTLE CABLE, CAUSING IT TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO OPERATE OR CEASE OPERATING, NOT ALLOWING THE ASSEMBLY TO RETURN TO IDLE WHEN PRESSURE IS REMOVED FROM THE GAS PEDAL.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: IF THIS OCCURS, LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL CAN BE EXPERIENCED, WHICH CAN RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A STANDOFF BRACKET TO INCREASE THE CLEARANCE OF THE THROTTLE CABLES FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD.
