2022 Grand Design Reflection

Slide out on RV repeatedly failed to fully extend and retract. Was told by RV repair shop that structural failure was the cause. The problem was discovered and confirmed by a dealer service center. As of 5-27-2026, it has not been inspected by the manufacturer. The structural failure could have caused the slide out to unexpectedly extend while in transit. The structural failure could also cause a catastrophic event while in transit. There were no noticeable symptoms or warning signs of this condition except for the multiple slide out problems.

We purchased our 2022 Grand Design Reflection in January 2022 and were told it is good for full-time living since that is what we do. We have had issues with the slides, roof and other items list below: 3/11/2022 - Warranty Items: Driver side large slide won’t go in all the way and driver side front slide jumped a tooth. 6/9/2022 - Warranty Items: Bedroom slide (driver side front) mechanism needs to be completely rebuilt. Large slide (kitchen) has a bent bracket. 11/23/2022 - Warranty Items: Bedroom slide seized up (replaced slide system). Roof staples and screws poking through (resolved). 2/6/2023 - Non Warranty: Fridge shock cord snapped and fridge fell forward. Purchased new shock cord and installed. 8/9/2023 - Non Warranty: Fridge not working, bad board. Warranty passed and extended warranty said they would not pay due to the fridge fell forward in the past. Gerster paid to replace the fridge. Warranty Items: Spare tire coming loose after every travel. Shop replaced the wench. 6/6/2024 - Warranty Items: Slide on passenger side not sliding correctly. Room track is ground down causing gears to slip. Shop replaced the assembly. 7/6/2024 - Warranty Items: Fridge randomly stops working, needs replacement. Extended warranty covered all but $150 deductible. 6/6/2025 - Warranty Items: roof staples and screes poking through (roof replaced). Driver side large slide pin bent (replaced). Tech found cracks in the fiberglass above the slide at the rear. The cracks are on the inside in the same area (Submitted a claim to Grand Design. Waiting). 6/27/2025 - Pulled into campground and tried opening the window by the dining table. It is stuck. Had to push and hold it closed and then the release lever worked. Randomly throughout our travels, we stop at different places and notice pieces of trim/wood on the floors. Two kitchen drawers and one dresser drawer open during travel so had to install new drawer slide hardware. I'm having trouble attaching details.

-Stabilizer leveling powered scissor jacks front and rear collapsed during first trip ever; at a level campsite (Lippert LCI brand) on brand new travel trailer. -Rear stabilizer failed the worst, with the metal arms deforming so much that the jack could not be retracted fully via power or manual with backup tool and best arm strength (in shape [XXX] at the time). -Called dealership (Adventure RV Cheyenne, WY now Blue Compass RV Cheyenne, WY) and was told it would probably not be covered under warranty, but they would need to inspect it in person and then submit claim to Grand Design RV and Lippert LCI. -Searched for LCI MODEL # 337199 and best price was on Amazon (figured I could relax after at least knowing how much I was potentially going to have to shell out to replace these out of pocket). Reading the reviews (some with photos) showed a TON of these have failed just like mine (manufacturing defect, or metal quality defect suspected), so it is a decently common issue. I have attached screenshots I took that evening of these reviews and photos. -Dealership service said the claim was denied by Grand Design. I pushed back hard, showed them the screen shots of the other failures, and told them to contact Lippert. -Dealership gave me different answers, but basically front unit was not replaced or repaired because the failure was not yet significant enough to keep the jacks from fully retracting (or at least within an inch of fully retracting. The rear unit was replaced with what to me looks to be a used replacement (motor housing cover cracked and faded, sticker with serial and model number faded and barely attached). -This is a major safety concern because I was only able to retract the rears up enough to get maybe 4" of ground clearance. The feet kept scraping on dips in highway the entire trip home. Could have easily got caught and ripped the whole unit from trailer, creating a major safety hazard for anybody on the road behind me. The bunk beds in the rear room of this 5th wheel camper are approximately 5' off the ground and are not equipped with safety like a standard bed of this height would require from other regulations. This is a MAJOR safety issue that resulted in facial and upper body injuries to my 12 year old daughter when she fell out of the bunk while sleeping. Speaking with others this is a very common occurrence and have talked with those that have injuries ranging from general soreness/bruising like my daughter to more serious injuries like broken bones including someone that told me their child broke a vertebrae. This safety issue is not specific to my model and effects many model RVs from many manufacturers.
