No, this is our first step Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not since the issue occurred. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. Current symptoms are: Huge gap in filon (1 inch or greater) by pin box, sawdust and trim falling off in bedroom closet, doors opening during travel - pantry door, refrigerator door, laundry door in bedroom.

There are several things starting off with frame flexing issue causing numerous of parts to fail and move out of place. The manufacturer did a repair of this and my confidence in it being repaired correctly is very low. I do not feel safe towing this RV anywhere. Second, the broken leaf spring on the front axle. This could have caused the vehicle to lose control and cause a serious accident. It has been repaired. We have had the entry doors come open on us during towing. Nothing was lost from this. Lastly, the master bedroom slide has come out about 3 inches during travel. They repaired the inside bottom brace at the service center.

This unit is suffering from frame failure. Cargo doors have started opening on the freeway, cabinets are rubbing the wallpaper from frame flex, the forward floor has started squeaking, the forward lower exterior trim panel on the drivers' side is buckling, the forward walls have started creaking and popping when hitching up/unhitching and the pin-box "sinks" more than it ever did in the past when hitching up. I am very worried since these are all symptoms of frame failure. I've taken the unit to an authorized Grand Design repair center and so far, am not getting any support from Grand Design to actually fix the frame, the root cause for all of these symptoms. I'm worried if I accept the trailer and continue to use it, the problem will progress and we could end up with a complete failure while on the freeway.
The front frame has been in for repairs before for flexing issues/excessive movement. We have had a door pop open during travel and suspension parts break (hanger and leaf spring) in 2 separate incidents. The frame appears to have further issues on the passenger side more recently.

BOTH ACCESS doors are opening in transit along with pass thru baggage storage doors this has been brought to the attention of the manufacturer and the selling dealership We have had to tape the doors shut just to get somewhere safe These problems started shortly after purchasing its been back to the factory for repairs where they found abnormal frame flex / failure ,we were told additional frame gussets were added There was stress cracks in the front cap area which we found out later that is a sign of abnormal frame flex which we believe is causing the doors to open allowing items to eject onto the roadway
Frame not strong enough to support full GVWR. Result. Frame flexing excessively which can lead to frame failure and separation from the vehicle on the highway endangering everyone. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received twenty-three complaints alleging excessive frame flex on model year 2017-2023 Grand Design fifth wheel recreational trailers, models Momentum and Solitude. Twenty-two of the complaints allege that excessive frame flex resulted in a cargo or entry door opening while in transit, some with objects lost on roadways, while six complaints also state that slideouts extended out partially. ODI has been in contact with both Grand Design and Lippert, the frame manufacturer. Grand Design believes that some frame flex, generally considered to be vertical movement in the upper deck area of the fifth wheel, is normal. However, Grand Design has developed a technical service bulletin (TSB), to evaluate concerns of excessive frame flex, defined as vertical movement greater than 3/8 inch. Per Grand Design, the frame flex is only occurring in the upper deck area of the fifth wheel and is resulting in cosmetic defects such as moving sidewalls, damage to cabinets, binding doors, etc. However, Lippert believes that the effects of frame flex may also extend back to the front axle of the trailer.While Lippert provides frames for multiple trailer manufacturers, the majority of complaints are for these Grand Design products. Cargo and entry doors that open and slideouts that extend while in transit increase the risk of injury or a crash. ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to evaluate the severity of the potential problem and to determine whether an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety exists.
