Steering

Steering will all of a sudden feel disconnected. Feels like truck is sliding, till I move the wheel, then it feels connected again. Very weird feeling. This only seems to happen on the highway at highway speed. Witch is the part that worries me. This happens at least once every time on on the highway.

Last Friday evening, while driving the vehicle on the highway, the power steering suddenly stopped working. I heard a warning chime and saw an indicator "Service Power Steering" message on my display. I managed to steer the vehicle into a parking lot to inspect the engine bay and fuses. When I restarted the engine, the power steering was functioning. The power steering failure has not reoccured since it initially happened. My vehicle is a 2019 year model. I noticed that GM has a recall for 2021 year models for this very same problem. I'm wondering if the recall shouldn't be expanded given my experience.

Multiple times upon starting my Yukon I get a message on the dash that states Power steering disabled drive with care. I have no power steering until the computer has enough time to reset itself, usually about 15 min. This issue has been confirmed at our shop with the code being for the power steering. We have had it into the dealership and they found the same code but were unable to get it to recreate for them. It is not something that happens every day so I would have to leave it with them for a long period of time and that is not an option. This started happening within a couple weeks of buying the vehicle. It started for me in March 2020, with less than 17K miles on the truck.

I WAS TRAVELING STRAIGHT ON OHIO TURNPIKE WITH MY FAMILY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRUCK TIRES STARTED TO FEEL WEIRD. I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN A LITTLE BY PUMPING MY BREAKS, BUT THE WHEEL GAVE A SHARP PULL TO THE LEFT FOR NO REASON. I WAS TRAVELING APPROX 60-70 MPH WHEN I FELT A STRONG PULL TO THE LEFT HAND SIDE AND MY SEAT STARTED TO VIBRATE. I COULDN'T CONTROL THE STEERING AND INFORMED EVERYONE IN THE VEHICLE AT THAT TIME THAT WE WERE GOING TO CRASH. I AM POSITIVE THAT THIS DEFECT IN THE STEERING/BREAKING SYSTEM RESULTED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. IF THAT'S NOT BAD ENOUGH, MY AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED AND I WAS INJURED AS A RESULT OF THE MVA. 7 PASSENGERS WEARING SEATBELTS. VEHICLE TOTALED. DAMAGED GUARD RAIL. SUBMITTED A DEFECT CLAIM RIGHT AWAY. I'VE DRIVEN SUVS SINCE I WAS ISSUED MY LICENSE AND NEVER ONCE HAVE I EVER FELT OUT OF CONTROL. IT WAS LIKE SLOW MOTION. I KNEW I WAS GOING TO CRASH AND THERE WAS NOTHIN G I COULD DO TO STOP IT. I HAVE SINCE BEEN AWARDED THE OHIO STATE TROOPERS AWARD FOR SEAT BELT SAFETY. I'VE REQUESTED AN INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE. ONLY AFTER THE ACCIDENT HAD IT BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE RIGHT TIRE HAD RECENTLY BEEN REPLACED. VEHICLE HAS SINCE BEEN RECALLED. I'M CERTAIN SOMETHING MALFUNCTIONED AND THAT'S WHY WE CRASHED. WE DROVE FROM MA TO MN AT THE END OF AUGUST TO ATTEND THE STATE FAIR, THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER LEAVING MN ON OUR WAY BACK HOME TO MA. ACCIDENT WAS WITNESSED. I WAS NOT CITED OR ISSUED A TICKET. NOT MY FAULT. JUST NEED SOMEONE WHO SPECIALIZES IN DEFECTS TO CONFIRM MY ALLEGATIONS. INCLUDED IN POLICE REPORT AS WELL AS MOTOR VEHICLE INSURANCE CLAIM

26V289000 · Power Train:transfer Case (4-WHEEL Drive)

May 7, 2026

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2026 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles with four-wheel (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), and certain 2015-2020 Suburban, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Yukon, Yukon XL, and Tahoe vehicles. A component missing from the drivetrain transfer case may cause the front and/or rear wheels to lock up without warning to the driver.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Front or rear wheel lockup increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the remedy is completed. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transfer case assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 18, 2026. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223. GM's number for this recall is N262557620. 18V673000 · Seat Belts:rear/other

Sep 26, 2018

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Cadillac CT6, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Volt, and GMC Yukon XL vehicles. Certain second-row or third-row rear seatbelts retractor assemblies may not automatically lock when the seatbelt is fully pulled out of the retractor, possibly preventing a child seat from being properly secured. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the child seat is not properly secured in the event of a crash, it can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear seatbelt retractors and replace them if necessary, free of charge. The recall began November 7, 2018. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 18315.
