THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED, BUT UNDER WARRANTY FROM THE DEALERSHIP. IT HAS BEEN ALWAYS MAINTAINED AND SERVICED, UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, BY THE SAME DEALERSHIP. AS SOON AS WE NOTICED THE CRACKS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG AREA, WE CHECKED WITH THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THAT THEY WILL NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE, SINCE GMC DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL ISSUED, HOWEVER THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS IN TENS OF THOUSANDS OF GMC VEHICLES AND THERE IS OVERWHELMING DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE OF MANUFACTURING DEFECTS. THERE ARE CUTS AROUND THE AIRBAG AREA WITH SHARP EDGES AND IN CASE OF AIRBAG DEPLOYMENTS, THEY WOULD BE FLYING LIKE DAGGERS AND ARE VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
STABILITRAK OFF LIGHT COMES ON, FOLLOWED BY REDUCED ENGINE POWER. VEHICLE WON'T GO OVER 30 MPH THEN COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN. STEERING GOES OUT AND HAD I NOT BEEN IN A SAFE LOCATION WHERE I COULD DRIFT OVER TO SHOULDER IT COULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *TR

I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP LOCATED IN ITHACA, (MAQUIRE CHEVY-CADILLAC) NEAR ITHACA MALL. THE VEHICLE ENGINE SOUND LIKE IF SOMEONE WAS HITTING THE ENGINE WITH A HARD OBJECT, ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD COME ON. THE SERVICE TECH TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM,LATER THAT NIGHT I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND DROVE LESS THAN A MILE FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SAME NOISE CAME BACK ON. DROVE BACK AND COMPLAIN OF THE PROBLEM THAT BEING FIX AND WAS GIVEN A RENTAL CAR. THE NEXT DAY I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE REP. THAT A LIFTER HAD WENT ON THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD COST APPROX. 1,600.00 TO FIX THAT PROBLEM BUT WHEN NOT GUARANTEE ANY OTHER PROBLEMS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A OUTSIDE MECHANIC WHO ADVISED ME THAT IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO PUT A NEW ENGINE IN IT. THE SERVICE MANAGER LOOKED UP HIS SCREEN AND ADVISED ME THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NO RECALLS ON IT. I PAID $4,774.84 FOR A NEW ENGINE, BUT GMC DID NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT. ALL I WANT FOR LABOR IS $600.00 AND 203.00 FOR THE RENTAL CAR. I HAVE RECEIPTS TO SHOW WHAT WAS PAID AND THE BREAK OF WHAT NEEDED TO DONE TO ENGINE. I CONTACTED GMC 1-800 NUMBER WHICH WAS A JOKE, THEY LISTEN BUT REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING. I NEEDED THE VEHICLE TO BE FIX, WHICH WAS AN EMERGENCY. PLEASE HELP. *TR

MY WIFE'S 2007 YUKON XL HAD A MESSAGE THAT STATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL WAS OFF AND A REDUCTION IN POWER MESSAGE WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY GOING 65 MILES AN HOUR DURING RUSH HOUR. WHEN THIS MESSAGE CAME ON THE YUKON CAME TO A VERY DANGEROUS REDUCTION IN SPEED AND WAS VERY CLOSE TO GETTING REARENDED BY THE VEHICLES BEHIND HER. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND THE MESSAGE RESET BUT CAME BACK ON SOON AFTER SHE GOT BACK UP TO SPEED AND THE TRUCK SHUT DOWN AGAIN. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AND CHECKED ALL GROUND STRAPS REPLACED THE BATTERY AND HAVE CHECKED THE HARNESS. THE ISSUE HAS CONTINUED AND SINCE MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY IT IS GETTING VERY EXPENSIVE TO START REPLACING PARTS ON THE VEHICLE JUST TO HAVE IT DO THE SAME THING. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP THERE ARE NO RECALLS BUT THERE ARE SEVERAL FORUMS ON LINE WITH PEOPLE ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THERE GM PRODUCTS. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO, BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS HURT OR KILLED. GM NEEDS TO RECALL THEIR PRODUCTS THAT ARE INVOLVED AND REPAIR THEM.- *TR

THE TRANSMISSION WAS LEAKING AND RECALLED AND THAT WAS FIXED BY GM. THE BRAKE LIGHTS SOMETIMES OVER HEAT AND I HAD TO REPLACE THE SADDLES ON THEM. I DO NOT EVEN KNOW THEY GO OUT BUT I HAVE PEOPLE HONKING AT ME THAT I HAVE NO LIGHTS IN THE REAR. NOW WITH MY WARRANTY OUT AND HAVE 86.000 MILES ON IT THE FUEL PUMP IS OUT ON THE VEHICLE AT A 700 DOLLAR COST. THE DOOR KNOB FELL OFF, I HAVE OIL PRESSURE ISSUES ALL OF THE TIME. LAST NOVEMBER THE DRIVE SHAFT FELL OFF AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HAD TO PICK IT UP OFF OF THE INTERSTATE WHICH SOMEONE COULD HAVE GOTTEN HURT. BRAKE ISSUES. WHEN YOU SPEND 48,000 DOLLARS ON A VEHICLE IT MAKES YOU SAD THAT GM DOES NOTHING TO HELP THEIR CUSTOMERS. MAYBE THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT HELP THEM ANYMORE. TODAY THEY WANTED ME TO TAKE IT TO GM AND PAY 200 DOLLARS FOR A DIAGNOSIS. JUST MORE MONEY IN THEIR POCKET. I WANT TO ANOTHER SHOP FOR ADVISE. THIS CAR IS DEFINITELY A DISAPPOINTMENT ND LEMON. *TR

3EA10004 · Interior Door Handle Laceration Risk

The investigated concern involved chrome plating on interior door handles that could peel or separate from the plastic base material. This de-lamination could result in a sharp edge and pose a risk of laceration. In some cases, consumers reported minor hand/skin lacerations.Of these reported injuries, the vast majority of injuries were to adults.Ninety percent of claims associated with interior door handle de-lamination were related to the front doors. In addition to the above Tahoe/Yukon vehicles, other GMT 900 series C/K vehicles (Avalanche, Escalade, Sierra, Silverado, and Suburban) have a trim level that utilizes the chrome plated interior door handles and were included in the analysis. The resultant population group had a total of 746 complaint reports with 309 injury incidents and 43,619 unique VIN regular warranty claims over a combined 451,745 vehicle population. The door handle supplier was changed in September 2006 with new tooling and process in place by October 2006.The base population prior to the September 2006 vendor change accounted for the bulk (or 89%) of all complaints and comparable injury reports and warranty claims.Due to the nature of the failure (thin chrome plating peeling off the door handle), only minor hand/skin laceration injuries similar to a paper cut were recorded. All but a few did not require professional medical treatment such as surgical or liquid sutures (i.e. stitches).Less than 10% of injury reports had specifically involved a 3-10 year old child. This was due to the fact that 90% of the claims were associated with door handles located in the front seating area (where the window glass panels usually have less solar tinting than rear window glass panels) where children are not normally seated. In July 2010, GM issued a Special Coverage Policy (SCP 09239) on the base vehicles to extend the warranty coverage to 10 years/100k miles.Recent data indicate that the base population complaint and injury reporting have subsided since the implementation of the SCP campaign. In June 2011, GM added the remaining interim population (Sep-Oct 2006) to the SCP.A safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency will monitor this issue and reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.
