At speeds of 65-75, both with the adaptive cruise control enabled and disabled, I accelerated a little bit to pick up speed and pass another vehicle. The vehicle responded initially by gaining speed, then it feels like I hit something and the front brakes lock up for 1-2 seconds and the tires start screeching from sliding, then everything resumes to normal. I was very shocked during a recent roadtrip when this happened 4-5 times. I feel like my safety and my family’s safety is at risk and of the 2 dealerships I called, they don’t prioritize it and make it seem like a minor repair.

Break system failed while driving. Multiple warning lights came on including Break System Failire, Service Steering Column Lock, Service Traction Control, Service ESC and Service Brake Pad Monitor. This happened as I was driving and I could barely stop the truck. I had my wife and kids in the car. Luckily, I was not driving very fast and was not in a congested or had to stop quickly. If I had to stop fast or was in a congested area this could have causes a life threatening accident.

I am writing to express my significant concerns regarding the recurring issues with my 2024 Denali 6.2, which has been subject to multiple service visits since reaching 7,000 miles. Despite these visits, the underlying problem remains undiagnosed and reoccurs shortly after I retrieve the vehicle. Following the second oil change, the engine developed a persistent ticking noise. Over the past 13 month, I have invested over $200,000 with your dealership in the past 5 years!. My truck was recently held for two weeks for service. After I lodged a complaint, the General Manager suggested I seek service elsewhere. This recommendation was made after I responded to an email stating that, following the completion of repairs to the headliner, third brake light, and brakes/rotors, I would no longer be utilizing Crain's services. The headliner sustained water damage due to improper installation by your technician, and fingerprints were also evident. I firmly believe in transparent communication regarding service progress, which was notably absent in this instance. Both the General Manager and Service Manager deferred responsibility, instructing me to contact GM directly, only for GM to inform me that direct contact was inappropriate. This resulted in a continuous cycle of unaddressed concerns with the service manager. Currently, I am operating an $80,000 vehicle that has incurred damage from a technician and exhibits a ticking engine. Furthermore, the driver's side mirror, which was previously replaced due to shaking at highway speeds, is now exhibiting the same issue, despite a technician's assertion that this is normal. I also note that my brakes, with over 89% remaining, are beginning to squeak, which your team claims is normal. This assessment is difficult to accept.

Chronology (dates / approx. mileage): 09/06/2024 (~10,437): front brake repair; 01/13–14/2025 (~16,239): RF caliper seized repaired; 05/05–06/2025 (~20,734): pads 1–2 mm and rotors very warped; 08/15–18/2025 (~27,574): pads again ~2 mm and rotors very warped. ( Emissions soot collection and engine deceleration is another issue in the diagnostics.) Dealer: Chevrolet Buick GMC of Bellevue, WA. GM is recommending that I replace my brakes for the 3rd time within 30,000 miles but cannot explain the irregular wear. I am confident that there is a larger issue causing this is the brakes failing are just a symptom of a larger issue that have failed to address after 6 dealership visits, escalating (twice - due to first advisor never getting back to me) to GM customer care, emailing an executive, regional service manager, and countless hours to fix the safety issue of my brakes (and the larger root cause issue). GM Customer Care Case #[XXX] - BRAKE SAFETY ISSUE 2024 GMC Sierra AT4 (VIN: [XXX]) - 46,000 miles Nov 2023: 1st visit - Brake squeal at 25K. Pads replaced, GM denied warranty. Early 2024: SAFETY ISSUE RETURNED at 30K miles. May 2025: 2nd visit - Worsening brake noise. Dealer couldn't replicate despite video evidence. Recommended $500 repair. Manager acknowledged "irregular/abnormal" wear. June 2025: 3rd & 4th visits - Tech found unexplained "weird line" on pad. Manager Kyle confirmed unusual wear but no root cause identified. June 10: Opened GM case #[XXX] after dealership failures. July 7: GM failed to coordinate promised appointment. July 14: 5th visit - Les Stanford Buick GMC, Ferndale. Tech rode with me, CONFIRMED BRAKE SAFETY ISSUE but offered no solution. CRITICAL SAFETY CONCERN: Recurring brake defect with abnormal wear patterns acknowledged by multiple technicians. Same brake failure pattern occurring 3 times in 18 months poses serious safety risk. Despite 5 dealership visits, video evidence, and confirmed defect, GM refuses warranty coverage while acknowledging the problem exists. Trailer Brake Controller displays message on Dash intermittently that the trailer brakes are disconnected, and after a short pause it will say reconnected. This occurs multiple times a day. This did not occur with my previous GMC. I do have solar panels and Lithium batteries

The DIC randomly displays “check trailer wiring” then says “brakes connected” over and over. When this happens the brakes on the trailer quit working, all lights continue to work all the time. It hasn’t been back to the dealer yet but I will take it when I can. Other vehicles have no issues with this trailers brakes when towing. I have replaced the trailer pig tail 7 pin plug, cleaned all connections etc. The only thing that works so far is to disconnect one of 4 electric brakes then the DIC is silent and 3 brakes function. I even replaced some magnets in the trailer brakes but they were working prior to the DIC message that began on my second towing trip. There is a technical bulletin for some GMC trucks but my model isn’t listed as one. I believe it to be the controller or software since nothing seems to work as far as the trailer is concerned. It isn’t my trailers issue…I know they are going to say it is.

I was driving my vehicle, with my 9-year-old son in the back, when it seemed to completely lose power and shut down (while I was driving!). The power steering, brakes, and gas all gave out. I was able to steer myself toward the side of the road where I waited for a tow. The vehicle would not start, nor would it shift into neutral, which led to towing challenges. This is a 2024 vehicle that I've had for about eight months, and it completely gave out while I was driving with a child in the back, which is a significant safety concern. Nobody at the dealership or GMC is able to offer anything with respect to information on how or why this happened and what you are doing to resolve the issue. From what I see online, this is a known issue that GMC is likely to be sued for in the future.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Engine failure increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the engine, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will add higher viscosity oil, install 6 oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and update the owner's manual. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 18, 2025. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N252494000.

On January 16, 2026, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ26001.  This investigation was opened to assess the remedy effectiveness of Recall 25V-274. ODI has received complaints alleging engine failure in vehicles after the recall remedy had been completed, whether that remedy involved an oil viscosity change or a complete engine replacement. General Motors (GM) issued Recall 25V-274 to address concerns of engine failure in the L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021 and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issue. GM’s recall remedy for Recall 25V-274 consisted of two different repairs, either an oil viscosity change or an engine replacement, based on the results of the remedy inspection procedure. ODI continues to receive reports of engine failures after the completion of the recall remedy. To date, ODI has received 499 complaints alleging post-remedy engine failure in vehicles subject to Recall 25V-274, 473 of which involved an oil viscosity change and 26 a complete engine replacement. Additionally, ODI has received 191 reports of L87 engine failures in engines produced after the production period cited in Recall 25V-274.
