The engine on my 22 Sierra began knocking at 23,000 miles . The engine i have is a 6.2. It was already scheduled for a front grill recall at the dealer and I had concerns for the knocking issues. I had no lights on the dash or a performance issue at the time. The dealer said they heard the knocking and wanted to take the oil filter off to confirm engine failure. The found metal shavings in the filter and it needed a new engine. They said if I kept driving it the engine would have locked up . Luckily I cought it in time and avoided an accident on the highway. This is a huge safety issue.

I had taken my vehicle to the dealership for a front grill assembly recall by the end of the day they called me and said I needed to leave my truck at the dealership because of a coolant control valve and they don't recommend me driving it. They told me they would get me a rental car but we're not able to get me one until 11 days after my vehicle was in the shop. I told them I needed a truck for work but was told they could only offer up to 44 dollars a day and I'd have to take a vehicle that was given to me or pay out of my own pocket to rent my own. I had the case escalated but have yet to hear anything back from GMC if they have even recieved the part or what is going on with this backorder part! From what I've been seeing and reading this is obviously an ongoing thing with GMC they have known about this coolant control valve for years now but instead of producing them so they are no longer on backorder they continue to produce plenty of new vehicles to throw on the sales lot. I am out of thousands of dollars because I don't have a truck and only 2 weeks into this mess with GMC. The vehicle is paid off and I continue to wander when a part or gmc will give me a better option. So I can continue with my business.

The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. While utilizing Super Cruise on the interstate in stop and go traffic conditions, the vehicle will come to a complete halt and jerk (as though you I slammed on the breaks). This has happened approximately 4 times and each time, driving conditions were good and during hours of daylight. The halt is very violent and causes the vehicle behind me to slam on their breaks. The latest instance occurred on Tuesday May 29, 2025 and forced the vehicle behind me to swerve off of the road. The emergency breaking warning does not sound nor is there a reason for it to do so as it has happened when the vehicle in front of me is moving with traffic and has not slowed down or applied breaks. The super cruise system also does not disengage or say that the road information is unavailable. The vehicle simply comes to an abrupt halt, to the point where if things are in the seats they will fly forward and then the system behaves as though nothing has happened. Traveling speeds vary between 10-20 mph when it malfunctions. The problem has not been reproduced and it shouldn't because it is a serious safety hazard for the driver and other commuters on the road. I was told a module software update would fix the issue however that did not. There were no warning lights that occurred prior to any of the instances.

On [XXX] while driving 80mph on Westbound [XXX] , just West of the [XXX] exit, my engine simply quit. I was able to navigate it to the side of the highway to avoid traffic. However I could not restart the engine or subsequently get it out of Park gear. I got a notice "Conditions Not Correct for Shift." I was forced to use Onstar to get the truck towed back to the original dealership, Quebedeaux Buick/GMC in Tucson, Arizona. The next day, Monday, I went to the dealership to find out what happened to my truck. They said they would call me with results. They never did. The next day, Tuesday, I still hadn't received a call. I returned to the dealership to ask what had happened. They informed me the engine had thrown a bearing and it would need a total engine replacement. It would take 1-2 months. I'm now on day 4 of not having a vehicle, I've called the dealership every day to try to get a loaner vehicle, and they keep telling me they're working on it. The truck only has 36k miles on it and is still covered by warranty, but I feel like I'm getting the runaround from both the dealership and customer service. I still do not have a loaner vehicle. Engine
On January 16, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE25001 after receiving complaints and field reports concerning engine failures in MY2019-2024 GM’s full-size truck and SUV T1XX platform equipped with the L87 6.2L V8 engine. These complainants alleged engine bearing failures resulting in knocking and growling noises from the engine’s bottom end and in some cases more severe consequences such as broken connecting rods leading to engine damage, or engine failure. If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. On April 24, 2025, GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the concern with L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issues.
