At 59000 miles my lifters were rebuilt on the 6.2 liter engine because of a failure in the 1 and 3 piston. Gm paid for the repairs and then At 79000 miles the motor completely blew resulting in complete failure and seizing the motor and heavy metal chips were reportedly found in oil pan. Gm claimed it was a result of me not doing regular oil changes however I suffer from OCD and I am automotive engineer and my oil was changed early in most cases with my truck. Gm will not take responsibility and at the time they wanted $16k to fix my truck. I was going through a very tumultuous divorce and had to pay atty $34k for that wnd could not pay $16k for a new engine resulting in me having to give my truck back to bank and I have not been able to buy a truck or vehicle since then as it ruined my once perfect credit of 820. It’s changed my life forever and GM should take responsibility. I will never buy another GM product again and my father worked for them my whole life and my family only drove their products.

While driving our 2020 Sierra AT4 down the highway at 65 mph, the engine suddenly cut out and started sputtering. Every light came on. We pulled off the highway and had the truck towed. Our highly trusted, family mechanic company diagnosed lifter 5 was twisted and stuck, along with another stuck lifter. The cost to replace the engine was one hundred dollars more than repairing the two lifters. They purchased a new engine through Van Chevrolet and were surprised the cost had recently decreased from $7-8k to $3900, to purchase a rebuilt engine. The engine appeared to be new, with the bolt threads unused. The new engine comes with a 3year 100k mile warranty through the dealership. We called GM, they said since we went to another mechanic they would not speak with us.

-Transmission valve body Failure, Wheel lock up, ABS Event, Loud Bang and a Flashing "D" on Driver Information Center (DIC) when Lightly or Moderately Accelerating Forcing an 8-7 or 8-6 Downshift -When all four tires lock up at a high rate of speed, this puts the driver, the passengers, and all others on the road at risk for injury or death. -Yes, the problem has been found in a document by my local dealer that this issue was added to my exact vehicle's service manual on 11/27/24. The document describes in detail the exact scenario I have been involved in multiple times. It is deemed as #21-NA-275. It locks up the tires randomly to the vehicle in mid acceleration at any speed including 80 miles per hour in one instance for me. -Yes, the dealership inspected it and found the issue to correlate with the newly added section to the service manual, 13333166. This document ID is 5925530 and the added information to the dealership is #21-NA-275. The GMC manufacturer has been contacted as of 3PM MST 3/14/25. Insurance doesn't deal with mechanical problems. The police will only be involved when there is death or injury. -No. The only warning that happens is simultaneously as the vehicle locks up the tires causing the driver (me) to inevitably try to save myself and others, swerving and trying to focus on not hurting myself or others but I did notice the "D" flash on one of these occasions. This is the most dangerous issue with a vehicle I have ever even considered. At any time, for any reason, all four tires can lock up at any rate of speed and cause multiple casualties. The way to fix this is to spend $3,000 which I am sure many people like myself do not have. This means there are thousands of these exact make and models of vehicles on the road right now. Please do not take this lightly as I have almost crashed multiple times with people in my vehicle due to no fault of my own.

My engine has had continual random piston misfire issues, I have changed the spark plugs, fuel injectors, and cat converter. The vehicle has "dynamic fuel management" (DFM) where four of the cylinders turn off when the load on the engine is low and turn back on when the load is high. A mechanic reviewed the vehicle and determined that all eight cylinders are turning off while driving due to the DFM. When it misfires there is momentary loss of power that potentially puts others at risk. A dealership performed a repair per a Bulletin but the issue was not fixed. The mechanic indicated this is a software issue with the computer update per the Bulletin. I have installed a DFM disabler to prevent DFM from working, don't have misfires, but this is an engineering issue that GM hasn't/won't address.

PE21010 · Air Bag Malfunction

Opened Apr 9, 2021 · Closed Aug 24, 2023

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Air Bags; Air Bags:frontal; Air Bags:frontal:driver Side:inflator Module; Air Bags:srs Malfunction Warning Lamp/light

On April 9, 2021, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE21-010 to investigate instances of air bag malfunction indicator light (MIL) illumination and potential for frontal air bag non-deployment in several vehicles manufactured by General Motors (GM). The vehicles included model year (MY) 2020 through 2021 CT4 and CT5 passenger cars, Sierra and Silverado trucks (1500/2500/3500 models), XT4 and MY 2021 Escalade, Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon SUVs.Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 21-NA-005, issued in March 2021, addresses air bag MIL illumination with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) B0001-1B or B0012-0D. It cites rust particles in the connection terminal interface of the driver air bag inflator housing as the cause of the air bag MIL illumination. Illumination of the air bag MIL under these circumstances may result in a non-deployment of the frontal driver air bag during a frontal collision and increased risk of injury to the driver.GM stated a correlation exists between production delays due to the pandemic shutdown and premature corrosion initiation on the surface of the air bag inflator housing, which, in some cases, caused rust development during a seven (7) month period of vehicle production. In the rare instance when a rust particle dislodges from the driver air bag inflator housing and enters the air bag connector prior to assembly, an intermittent resistance spike at the air bag connector may result. The condition generates excessive resistance in the air bag electrical system when the steering wheel horn cover is manipulated or the steering wheel is turned. This excessive resistance is momentary. A crash commanding air bag deployment would need to occur exactly when the momentary excessive resistance occurs. Thus, there is a very low likelihood the hazard will present a risk during a crash of sufficient severity to warrant a commanded deployment. This failure mechanism occurs early in life and results in an air bag MIL illumination that corresponds to a DTC warning the driver that the vehicle requires service. The vehicle's air bag remains functional while the MIL is illuminated, and the DTC is present.Once the connection of the driver air bag module to the clockspring is made at the plant, or at the dealership for service, there is no longer an opportunity for rust migration into the connection point. The connector is sealed and has gold terminals, eliminating the expectation of fretting corrosion. All subject vehicles passed standard corrosion validation testing for extensive corrosion with no issue of air bag non-deployment.There is a low rate of occurrence: 1.41 incidents per thousand vehicles (IPTV) for all related occurrences, and 0.04 IPTV for occurrences with a mention of visible rust and/or corrosion on the air bag inflator housing. The average occurrence mileage for the subject vehicles is approximately 2,100. Every occurrence related to the alleged defect experienced an air bag MIL illumination and there are no verified allegations of air bag non-deployment within all data sources. To date, there have been no reported fires, crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue. In view of the low rate, and the nature of early-life failure, the high detectability of failures, and low potential hazard to drivers, this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances.Review the ODI reports cited above at nhtsa.gov under the following identification numbers: 11537927, 11528888, 11525020, 11521401, 11506057, 11493107, 11486767, 11441525, 11433146, 11425658, 11423440, 11385267, 11376429, 11373466, 11366995.
