WOULD HEAR A HISSING SOUND WHEN ABS BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE ABS LIGHT WOULD COME ON & STAY. PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR. WHEN RELEASED MAKES NOISES. BEEN TO DEALER & INFORMED BY MECHANIC ABS LINE WAS WORN & NEEDED REPLACING. *AK
TRANSMISSION WOULD KEEP SLIPPING. THE CLUTCH PISTON HAD STARTED SLIPPING. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO JERK BEFORE GOING INTO ANOTHER GEAR. BEEN TO DEALER & WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC THE PISTONS WERE MADE OF ALUMINUM & WERE CRACKING. THE PISTONS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITH STEEL PISTONS TO OPERATE PROPERLY. *AK
WHEN CONSUMER APPLIED BRAKES CAR WOULD NOT STOP. IT VEERED OFF THE ROADWAY TO AVOID A CRASH.THIS PROBLEM ONLY HAPPENS WHEN A STOP IS ABOUT TO BE MADE.DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND STATED THEY KNEW OF NO SUCH PROBLEM AND RECEIVED NO REPORTS ON THIS MATTER. *AK

WHEN TURNING A CORNER DRIVER APPLIED BRAKES , PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND VEHICLE HIT ANOTHER CAR ON THE SIDE. MECHANIC COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. *AK
VEHICLE EXPERIENCING ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. HOWEVER, RECALL NOTICE (99V-193) EXPLAINS THE SAME FAILURE CONSUMER EXPERIENCING. *YC
THIS VEHICLE WAS IN TWO SEPERATE CAR ACCIDENTS AND I BELEIVED THE THEY WERE CAUSED BY THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN 4-WHEEL DRIVE PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ABS (ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM) MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 1989 THROUGH AUGUST 1996. UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS THE SWITCH WHICH SIGNALS THE ABS SYSTEM WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS IN 2-WHEEL OR 4-WHEEL DRIVE CAN MALFUNCTION CAUSING INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES DURING ABS STOPS WHILE IN THE TWO-WHEEL DRIVE MODE.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: IF THIS OCCURRED AT A TIME WHEN MINIMUM STOPPING DISTANCE WAS REQUIRED, A VEHICLE CRASH COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE OR REPAIR THE 4-WHEEL/2-WHEEL DRIVE SWITCH.
