The vehicle has experienced a pattern of recurring electrical failures beginning shortly after purchase, involving driver door controls (window, lock, mirror, and interior lighting functions), which have required four separate repair attempts over approximately three years, including replacement of a door module, a wiring harness, and a door switch assembly. Despite these repairs, the same driver door electrical failure has recurred multiple times. The vehicle has also experienced a seat memory module failure (module was replaced), and a persistent rear hatch malfunction that has never been resolved. The most serious concern is that the vehicle has, on multiple occasions, unexpectedly shut down while being driven, including instrument cluster and infotainment screens going dark, occurring when the automatic engine stop/start feature engages at intersections. The vehicle has restarted on its own after acceleration in some instances. Power steering assist has also been affected during at least one of these events. Most recently, the vehicle failed to start at all on one occasion, requiring roadside assistance to jump the battery; the dealer diagnosed unstable battery voltage but did not identify a root cause connecting this event to the prior shutdown incidents. This creates a significant safety risk due to potential loss of vehicle control or loss of power while operating in traffic. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealer on multiple occasions (door module and wiring harness failures were diagnosed and repaired), though the shutdown-while-driving events specifically have not been duplicated by the dealer despite multi-day testing. The vehicle has been inspected exclusively by the authorized dealer; it has not been inspected by police or independent parties. Warning symptoms (flickering door lights, dead door controls) preceded the shutdown/stall issue by roughly a year before the stalling symptom began.

We (wife and I) are the owner of a 2022 Genesis GV70. The vehicle has had multiple dangerous incidents affecting steering and driver control. Most recent event (dated 9/11/25): While driving at ~30 mph on city streets, an alarm sounded, the steering suddenly became very stiff, and the word “Emergency” appeared on the dashboard. This condition lasted briefly but made steering extremely difficult. Prior events (approx. six over the past two years): While driving at highway speeds, the vehicle has suddenly begun to swerve side to side with an alarm sounding — even though the lane assist feature was turned off. These incidents occur randomly, without warning, and cannot be reproduced on demand. Each time, she had to fight the steering to maintain control. Dealer inspection: The vehicle was taken to the Genesis dealership after earlier incidents. They found no diagnostic codes and offered no explanation or repair. Safety Concern: This vehicle appears to have a serious safety defect affecting steering control and stability. The unpredictable loss of normal steering or sudden emergency intervention poses a high risk of an accident. I request that NHTSA investigate this issue to determine whether it is part of a wider defect requiring recall or corrective action.

The contact owns a 2022 Genesis GV70. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the battery warning light illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the shoulder of the road. The contact stated that at that point, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed, and determined that an unknown software update was needed. The software update was performed. The contact was then informed that the battery needed to be replaced. The battery was replaced. The dealer later determined that the battery did not need to be replaced. The contact was informed that, after further diagnostic testing and inspection, the failure was due to an alternator wiring harness failure. The contact was informed that the alternator wiring harness was burned. The contact was informed that it was an unusual failure. The contact was informed that the alternator wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,308.

Vehicle experienced water intrusion through sunroof drainage system during rainfall, causing saturation of interior components and electrical malfunctions. Water accumulated in cup holders, dashboard areas, and saturated headliner materials. Following water exposure, vehicle developed multiple safety-critical electrical failures including: false forward collision avoidance system activation causing unexpected emergency braking with no obstruction present, and improper auto start/stop system engagement during low-speed driving causing vehicle to jerk and stall while in motion. Despite reporting this safety issue immediately, manufacturer Genesis Motor America failed to disclose that this was a known defect covered under Technical Service Bulletin 24-BD-008G. Customer service representatives did not mention existing TSB and refused emergency service appointments, forcing 2-month wait for service scheduling despite life-threatening electrical malfunctions. Customer had to independently discover TSB documentation through research. Only after customer escalated with TSB evidence did Genesis authorize repair. Dealer confirmed drainage system failure and completed repairs per TSB guidelines that manufacturer should have immediately referenced. Genesis's failure to disclose known safety defect and refusal of emergency service created extended exposure to dangerous electrical malfunctions that could result in accidents.

SAFETY DEFECT: Water intrusion through defective sunroof drainage system creating electrical hazards. Vehicle exhibits water leakage into interior during rainfall due to clogged sunroof drain hose plugs. Water accumulates in dashboard area, cup holders, and center console where electrical components are located, creating potential for electrical shorts, fires, or system failures. Component Failure: Sunroof drainage system fails to properly channel water away from vehicle interior. Manufacturer has issued Technical Service Bulletin 24-BD-008G acknowledging this defect in GV70 and GV80 models, stating "vehicles may exhibit water leakage inside the vehicle due to the sunroof drain hose plugs being clogged with foreign material." Safety Risk: Standing water near electrical systems poses fire hazard and potential electrical failure while driving. My vehicle has an electrical sensor issue. The Doors do not always open when fob button is pressed. Locks up and does not perform as described by manufacturer. This makes shopping feel a little scary as we have grown accustomed to a car that would open as we approached it. Not sure from day to day whether it will work or not. The Tailgate does not open and after over a dozen visits and at least fifteen days in the shop there is still no resolution to this problem. This means loading and unloading cargo from a side door. Less than ideal. 15 days with three plus visits. The last event occurred about 10 days ago when the air conditioner went out. We have air but no cool air as the ac compressor stoped working. We had the advantage of the car already being scheduled for the door and gate problem now compounded by the AC unit being broke.

I have been getting a number of safety warning lights since about 6 months after buying this car. It is new, under warranty and I am first owner. They were intermittent initially, but have become increasingly frequent and are now associated with a constant warning ping. I have taken the car to FitzGerald Genesis in Clearwater Florida 7 times for this problem. They can reproduce it (and have the codes) but they can not fix it (I took it to Crown Genesis of St. Pete twice for this problem) Genesis has not been interested in repurchasing this car under the lemon law - but offered me 2 car payments to sign a release of liability which I declined. They then called and asked if I could bring the car back for an 8th (really 10th) attempt to fix. They are aware that the safety features are not working (including Adaptive cruise control, lane sensing, forward collision detection, stability control among others) I am in Maine for the summer - but I arranged for a neighbor to drive the car to them. It was in an accident. I am offended that Genesis would ask anyone to drive that car in this unsafe condition. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The issue started 1/24/2022 9:30pm when the car steering wheel buttons features where off and 2 warning lights on. All self driving mode assistance where off. I took the car to Nashua Hyundai 140 Daniel Webster Hwy, Nashua, NH 03060 tel 603- 888- 8080, i believe was the week of the 31, and they ordered the 3 parts. They told me it was safe to drive the car. During Saturday 1/21 I drove to NYC to meet my cousins for my uncle funeral. I noticed that the car was slightly accelerating itself without no warning. On 1/22 Sunday returning home from NYC, I notice that I had to put the brakes more frequenty. On 1/27/2023, the 3 electric parts were installed and when leaving the dealer the car was not responding to the acceleration (it won run) and abruptly accelerated. Then at the highway US 3 South it started to reduce speed by itself (55/65 zone). Almost 2 car collide with me at the rear at they had to reduce speed abruptly. I returned to the dealer with the warning lights on. The technician plug the computer deffects detector and the system could not detect the error. The warning signs where off. He drove the car and there found the traction control coming on and off causing the car to accelerate and reduced speed by itself. I thought I was not going to make it as they were a lot of trucks near me when I was trying to drive and return to the dealer. I sworn to protect the public health since 2015, I am fulfilling that duty with this report to avoid preventable accident or death. I believe this car advance AI/ML system are blocking access to detection system to detect errors. Which could endanger findings of significant errors that can cause injuries or death while driving. All repairs documented are at the dealer and inside the car. The car still at the dealer as of today if you need to conduct an inspection 1/30,/2023. On August 8, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query (RQ) based on 3 incidents alleging front seat belt pretensioners that may rupture during deployment, on model year (MY) 2020-2022 of various Hyundai and Kia Models, resulting in 3 injuries (note: one incident occurred outside the U.S. and its territories).Between October 2021 and March 2023, Hyundai and Kia have filed the following 11 safety recalls for pretensioner rupture: NHTSA Recall No. 21V-796, 22V-069, 22V-123, 22V-127, 22V-218, 22V-354, 22V-447, 22V-458, 22V-816, 23V-094, and 23V-210.Hyundai/Kia have stated that the abnormal deployment of the pretensioners is due to over-pressurization of the pretensioner pipe that can cause metal fragments to enter the vehicle occupant compartment, which can result in injury to vehicle occupants.The various makes/models covered by the above recalls include approximately 405,900 certain 2020-2022 Hyundai Accent, 2021-2022 Hyundai Elantra and Elantra HEV, 2021-2022 Hyundai Santa Fe HEV, 2022-2023 Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV, 2020-2022 Hyundai Venue, 2021-2023 Genesis G80, 2023 Genesis G80 EV, 2023 Genesis G90, 2023 Genesis GV60 EV, 2022-2023 Genesis GV70, 2021-2023 Genesis GV80, 2021-2022 Kia Sorento HEV, and 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV.In response to ODI's investigation, in December 2022, Hyundai notified ODI that they would be conducting testing to validate subject vehicle seat belt pretensioners. ODI met with representatives from Hyundai on several occasions during the investigation to discuss testing progress and data. As a result of the testing, Hyundai was able to simulate the pretensioner failures. It was determined by Hyundai during testing, the front driver-side and/or passenger-side seat belt pretensioners may explode upon deployment in the event of a crash which can cause metal fragments to enter the vehicle occupant compartment.Hyundai thus notified ODI of their decision to proceed with a safety recall, to expand the scope of the previous safety actions.In view of the recall actions taken by Hyundai and Kia, ODI concerns have been addressed. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
