TSB 22-2493 has been issued for my vehicle and I have been experiencing the braking problem for a year. The problem is intermittent and that causes a safety issue because you never know when you are going to be jerked to a stop. I describe it like the braking you get with a new driver that just pushes the brake to the floor. You never know when your car is going implement a panic stop and throw you forward. What I am experiencing is not a feature of Hybrid braking. It is intermittent so it is may not occur on a test drive. I have taken to my truck to my FORD dealer for the resolution of the TSB but the software update was not installed because they could not replicate the problem.

When coming to a stop in traffic or just pulling into the garage you dont know how it will stop. Ford issued a TSB repair to correct this but after 300 miles it is back doing the same thing. There are thousands of other folks having the same issue, Ford needs to repair this before someone becomes seriously hurt.

I have problems with the braking system. It is very grabby and abrupt when stopping at low parking lot speeds or when creeping up in a drive-thru line. When is grabs, it often makes a clunk noise. I have problems with the braking system. It is very grabby and abrupt when stopping at low parking lot speeds or when creeping up in a drive-thru line. When is grabs, it often makes a clunk noise. It also feels like it will not stop at all, at times and this is a safety risk to myself and others. The vehicle was serviced on 12/21/2022 for this concern and was told the software was already updated. (reference TSB 22-2493), though, the vehicle still has concern. I returned to dealership on 3/27/2023 for same concern, and was told they could not duplicate. This remains to be an unresolved issue. What are my next steps to get this safety issue resolved? This is quite alarming to me. FYI: The vehicle clunked when entering and stopping in the dealership service area on 3/27/2023. I even showed the service advisor a video demonstrating the clunking noise.

The brakes on the Maverick are grabby and unpredictable when applying them when driving less than ten mph. When the brakes are grabby, the vehicle comes to an abrupt stop, and a loud noise is heard from under the hood. It is inconsistent and makes driving in parking lots, backing out of my driveway, or any place where I need to drive much slower than normal more dangerous. I have taken it to the dealer, and they have not addressed the issue. After only a few minutes on the internet, it seems this is a known issue and a potential safety concern for both the Maverick drivers and those outside the Maverick (other drivers or pedestrians). There are no safety lights or warnings that appear when the brakes instantly grab and lock. It is jarring and escalates the already anxiousness of driving. Having unpredictable brakes is a danger.

While in low speeds there are times the brake pedal stiffens then is unresponsive, then when applying more pressure all of a sudden the brakes would engage causing the car to come to an abrupt stop. Nearly hit the car in front of me during these instances.

At low speeds <5 mph the brakes will lock/bite and other times they will perform normally. Pedal response is basically unpredictable which could cause an accident.

I don’t know the cause, but it leaves the driver uncertain how much pressure to apply in braking situations. Snowy conditions are especially hard to navigate. Ford has issued a TSB for the problem which I am in line to have completed. But early feedback indicates that the offered fix only partially resolves the problem.

Brakes are too sticky and I'm not able to control the braking even if I am using the eco mode which is supposedly slow enough already. Normally happens when I just started moving the car from park and when I am going to stop and go local traffic. When I took the car to the dealer they said they could not update the software because there is no code for braking problem for this car. This car has been showing check engine light since December 24, 2022 and when the check engine light is on I could not access my OBD port. The chicken didn't light has been going off and on for three times now, took it to the dealer and the dealer was able to find a fault code but could not pinpoint the problem yet. When the check engine light is ON, the car does not seem to have enough power to move.

RQ24014 · Loss Of Motive Power

Opened Nov 15, 2024 · Closed Oct 10, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V Battery

On January 31, 2024, The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation (PE24002) to investigate loss of motive power allegations in model year (MY) 2021 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles. Consumers reported a loss of engine power accompanied by complete electrical system failure either while driving or after stopping at a traffic light or stop sign. The vehicles generally could not be restarted, and the incidents were commonly diagnosed by dealerships to a failed 12-Volt (12V) battery. On April 12, 2024, Ford issued safety recall 24V-267 covering 456,565 MY 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles. The recall addressed loss of motive power resulting from sudden degradation of the 12V battery during the drive cycle. The recall remedy consisted of software updates to the body control module and the powertrain control module. The updated software aimed to provide warning to consumers when the battery is failing and inhibit certain vehicle functions which can lead to loss of motive power incidents. Additionally, Ford removed the existing 12V Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB) as both a service component for the subject vehicles and original equipment for newly built Bronco Sport vehicles (during MY 2024 production), replacing it with a more robust absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery. The same AGM battery had been incorporated into Ford Maverick production in late 2022. Following recall 24V-267, ODI received loss of motive power complaints in vehicles that had previously received Ford’s software-based remedy. Consumers reported that they did not receive warnings related to the 12V battery or the vehicle’s electrical system before the loss of power. On November 15, 2024, ODI opened Recall Query (RQ24014) to assess the effectiveness of the 24V-267 recall remedy. On January 19, 2025, Ford issued recall 25V-019 covering 272,817 MY 2021-2023 Bronco Sport and MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles. The new recall addressed the same hazard as 24V-267 but required replacement of the existing 12V battery with an AGM battery as the remedy. Ford reported that following the opening of RQ24014, it evaluated several field-returned 12V batteries, and determined that EFBs produced by battery supplier Camel potentially contained internal manufacturing defects causing loss of motive power. Ford further concluded that the software updates provided in the 24V-267 recall remedy were unable to detect battery failures quickly enough to avoid loss of motive power. Vehicles previously within the scope of recall 24V-267, but outside of the scope of recall 25V-019, are equipped with EFBs produced by a different battery supplier (Clarios). When recall 25V-019 was issued, Ford had not identified any Clarios EFBs exhibiting the same failure mode as the Camel EFBs. In light of Ford’s recall action, ODI is closing this Recall Query. The agency will continue to monitor loss of motive power complaints in Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with Clarios EFBs and reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
