Traveling down the highway at 55MPH, I hit a little bump or crack in the cement and the front end of my truck shacks so hard that my glasses fell from the ceiling storage. This happend 2 times on the same commute. Very scary and dangerous.

I experienced a vibration in the front steering and suspension of my 2014 F250 Lariat Super Duty 4X4 after hitting a bump in the road. I was traveling between 45 – 50 miles per hour, hit a bump that cannot be avoided in my lane. On October 28, 2021 after hitting the bump as described above, it started vibrating so violently in the front end I had difficulty controlling it and keep it in my lane to slow it down to about 15 miles per hour to stop the shaking from the front wheels. In all my years of driving, I have never experienced anything like this. I carefully checked my F250 for lose wheels or front-end suspension and slowly drove another 4 miles home and checked it again. Please note, my F250, VIN ID [XXX] only has 54,797 miles on it with 99% being highway miles. It has not been abused and has been regularly serviced by Ford technicians since it was new. I searched the internet to find out what may cause the violent vibration in the frontend and discovered the term for it is “The Death Wobble”. Therefore, on November 2, 2021, I made arrangements with Vancouver Ford located at 6801 N.E. 40th Street, Vancouver, WA 98661 to check out my F250 to determine the cause of this dangerous violent vibration in the front end after hitting a bump driving down the road. Vancouver Ford technician diagnosed the problem as the steering damper and recommended replacement. I authorized the replacement which cost $310.40. Replacing the steering damper is just a band-aid and it will happen again in a few months. What is Ford doing to resolve this that is better than the band-aid. I own a 2014 Ford F250 Crew Cab 4X4. I have had the "Death Wobble" happen 3 times in the past 4 months. Each time happened while I was driving over 50 MPH on the highway. It feels like the truck is going to fall apart. When it happens I have to slow the truck down to almost a stop to get the wobbling stop. Having to quickly slow down on a highway that is 80 MPH is not only dangerous to myself and my passengers, but to everyone else on the road. There is no warning that it is going to happen, the truck just starts violently shaking. I have not had anyone look at the truck. I rodeo and haul my horse all over Texas with this truck. I am scared to death it will happen while I am pulling my horse trailer. I have no idea what to expect when/if that does happen. How will my trailer respond to the violent shaking? How will my horse respond? I truly believe this issue needs to become a recall from Ford and that they should pay to have the issue fixed. People will get hurt and it could easily cause death to anyone on the road, even if they aren't driving the truck having the Death Wobble.

While driving 85 MPH in an 85 MPH zone near the 9900 blk of N SH 130 NB a bump in the left hand lane sent the truck into a violent shake. Reducing speed did little to resolve the death wobble. Immediately drove to the tire shop and replaced with factory tires. Will have the vehicles front suspension checked by a certified technician.

On August 21,2021 we were about 2 hrs from home meeting some family to visit for awhile my husbandand I are both in our 60's. Just as we were entering Lufin Tx our truck dropped from 60 mph to 30 with no warning. I pulled to shoulder of the road and truck completely died. If we had been on an interstate there's a possibility the truck would have died in the middle of the interstate hwy with no way of getting out of traffic. Our truck was towed to Lufkin Ford since we couldn't afford the $ 394.00 to have it towed closer to our home. We were told by Lufkin Ford our P4 high pressure pump had went out, sending metal shards through our motor a $9400.00 repair. To this date our truck has not been repaired because there's a problem getting the pump. It seems this is a problem with the high pressure fuel pump in these diesel trucks, cause I was informed there are 6 trucks at this repair shop waiting on the same part so I'm sure this has been an on going problem.

MICHELIN LTX A/T 2 Size P275 65 R20 I have a 2014 Ford F250 SRW that I bought new in July 2014. The truck has 30,000 miles on it and 20,000 of it was towing a 5th wheel. The truck sits inside next to the 5th wheel when its not being used. I had the original tires on which had about 50% of the tread left. The rear tires are always inflated to 80 PSI before towing. We had 2 blowouts on the rear tires. The first I started feeling a vibration and thought I had a tire going down. No TPMS warnings. I pulled off and when I got below 45 the vibration stopped. The tires were all up and the tire temps were within 10 degrees of each other. So we continued on when I got back on I-75 south above 50, I started feeling the vibration again. I got over to the middle lane thinking maybe it was a pavement issue. Thats when the passenger rear tire blew. That tire was split in the side wall on both sides like the seam let go. Didn't think much of it when within about 50 miles, just south of Lexington the driver side rear tire blew. I got a little vibration that I was thinking that feels just like before the other side blew, but not nearly as much warning (about enough time to let off the gas) Same side wall split, except this also took out part of the tread and damaged the truck. Tire Discounters that was able to get us the same Michelin tires that came on the truck. The manager and his senior tire tech thought the tires were defective and told me to take the old tire and report the DOT number.

This action put my life at risk in rush hour traffic. I will not drive this vehicle until this issue is resolved. This happened at 7 am in the morning.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this RQ to investigate allegations that the scope and remedy of safety recall 13V-535 were inadequate. Recall 13V-535 was limited to a relatively small population of Ambulance Package vehicles and ODI received complaints of pickup trucks and Fire Engine Prep Package vehicles being affected by the same defect. Ford manufactured approximately 555,985 subject vehicles between February 22, 2010 and January 30, 2015 that may be affected by defective EGT sensors and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software calibration. The subject vehicles are equipped with four (4) EGT sensors to monitor engine operating conditions. An EGT sensor fault may produce false exhaust over-temperature signals. If these signals are produced, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) implements a Failure Management Effects Mode (FMEM) and the driver receives a Stop Safely Now (SSN) system warning on the instrument cluster message center. The FMEM triggers a 70% reduction in available engine power over a period of no more than 45 seconds, during which it may not be possible to accelerate or maintain vehicle speed. The PCM then commands the engine to shut down when vehicle speed reaches approximately 1 mph. There is no immediate restart capability. Depending on the PCM software calibration, ignition key position and ambient temperature conditions, the engine may not restart until the end of a 10-60 minute cool down period.Ford and its component supplier(s) made numerous changes to the PCM software calibration and the design, material and manufacture of the EGT sensors over the period of subject vehicle production. This continuous product improvement affected vehicle performance regarding the alleged defect. Ford acknowledges the defect condition in the subject vehicles but argues that an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety is limited to Ambulance Package and Fire Engine Prep Package vehicles where commanded shutdown could impact emergency response and patient care. Ford also argues that the defect trend is in decline. Ford also initiated a new safety recall (15V-175) to address the 13V-535 remedy concerns in the Ambulance Package vehicles and Fire Engine Prep Package vehicles. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this RQ to investigate allegations that the scope and remedy of safety recall 13V-535 were inadequate. Recall 13V-535 was limited to a relatively small population of Ambulance Package vehicles and ODI received complaints of pickup trucks and Fire Engine Prep Package vehicles being affected by the same defect. Ford manufactured approximately 555,985 subject vehicles between February 22, 2010 and January 30, 2015 that may be affected by defective EGT sensors and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software calibration. The subject vehicles are equipped with four (4) EGT sensors to monitor engine operating conditions. An EGT sensor fault may produce false exhaust over-temperature signals. If these signals are produced, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) implements a Failure Management Effects Mode (FMEM) and the driver receives a Stop Safely Now (SSN) system warning on the instrument cluster message center. The FMEM triggers a 70% reduction in available engine power over a period of no more than 45 seconds, during which it may not be possible to accelerate or maintain vehicle speed. The PCM then commands the engine to shut down when vehicle speed reaches approximately 1 mph. There is no immediate restart capability. Depending on the PCM software calibration, ignition key position and ambient temperature conditions, the engine may not restart until the end of a 10-60 minute cool down period.Ford and its component supplier(s) made numerous changes to the PCM software calibration and the design, material and manufacture of the EGT sensors over the period of subject vehicle production. This continuous product improvement affected vehicle performance regarding the alleged defect. Ford acknowledges the defect condition in the subject vehicles but argues that an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety is limited to Ambulance Package and Fire Engine Prep Package vehicles where commanded shutdown could impact emergency response and patient care. Ford also argues that the defect trend is in decline.
