Death wobble occurred randomly at about 40mph. Driving through mountains, slowed down and pulled off to the side to avoid putting others in danger including the passengers in this truck. There were not any warning lights/alerts from the truck prior to this happening.

Death Wobble. I did not know this was a thing until it happened to me and I found out its been a problem on Ford Trucks for over 15 years. My entire truck including the steering wheel shook violently on 5 different occasions. I'm scared to drive my 100K truck now. I brought to dealership thinking it came from them working on my truck and they informed me that this has been a issue that Ford refuses to recall and there's been multiple lawsuits. They suggested I file a complaint with this Org.

While driving down the highway at 75 I hit an uneven bump in the road and the vehicles front end started to vibrate and quickly became violent shaking of the trucks front end causing me to lose control of the vehicle and almost cause a major multicar accident on the interstate. I ended up almost hitting the guard rail on the side of the road but everyone was ok. I thought the whole front end came apart and had to get out of the vehicle on the side of the interstate to inspect the front and upon doing so almost got hit by a passing vehicle. After researching this problem I found thousands and thousands of complaints on f-250s for this same issue. It is unbelievable nothing has been done to remedy this problem when it seems it has been a known problem for many years. Thank God I didn't but If I would have got hit by the passing car and died my wife and children would have been fatherless because of negligence on Ford and them absolutely knowing about this problem and doing nothing about it. In the end my family would have lost a husband/father because he bought a Ford. That is just insane to think about being a reality. Why is nothing being done about this? Is Ford paying off the NHTSA to not demand a recall on these trucks? There are thousands and thousands of complaints on this site for this issue. How many does it take or does it take a certain number of deaths before it matters? Please someone do something about this!

On two different occasions while driving on the highway ( approximately 60 to 65) when I passed over an expansion joint the steering wheel and entire truck started to shake violently and out of control - it was like it hit some harmonic balance and would not stop until I got hard on the brakes and slowed down to approximately 35 mph. ( not fun to do in the fast lane of a highway) this happened two times once in Feb 2023 and again in June 2023

My 2014 F250 is also experiencing a death wobble like many other ford f250 customers already reported. The steering and front wheels shakes abruptly when driving on uneven roads on highways unexpectedly. This happens between 60 to 75 miles on highways, and I need to reduce the speed drastically to regain the control of the vehicle. This sudden speed reduction can cause back-end collisions and ford does not have any safety recalls on this issue as far as I know. This happened to me multiple occasions on same uneven roads and i tired to avoid those uneven areas these days.

I was Getting on I-95 N from Benson, NC with speed limit of 70mph. While I was still accelerating and just merged in traffic, going about 65-70mph, my 2014 F250 started doing the death wobble. The section of highway I was on has no shoulder or anywhere to pull off because they are doing construction on the shoulder and have concrete blocks maybe 6inches past the line. So I had no choice but to put on my brakes hard and slow down until the shaking stopped, which was bout 15-20mph. I’m very lucky I wasn’t rear ended or in an accident because of the death wobble. My 12 week old baby girl was also with me in the truck at the time

The issue is the Ford Death Wobble. It has happened to me four times now in the past two months. The first two times, I was not sure what it was. After the third, I called my local Ford dealership and informed them. They scheduled a time and I was to bring it there. The day before I was supposed to bring it, it did it again. The first time it happened, I was driving 70mph on a 65mph highway, going over a bridge when the truck started to shake profusely causing the steering wheel to jerk left and right. I had zero control over the truck. I began to slowly mash the break while being violently shaken and bounced around for a hundred yards, bouncing in and out of my lane. Luckily, there was no traffic at this time and I stopped without harm to any individual. I chalked it up to a scary incident and went about my business. Second time I was going over a bumpy road at 55mph when again, the truck began to violently shake and bounce out of control until I could get it to stop in the ditch on the side of the road. After taking it to a Ford dealer, they informed me of a few things that needed to be done and replaced, which we did. Four days after getting the truck back and “fixed” I was hauling my trailer and equipment for work when going 45min over a bumpy road, the truck began to again, violently shake and bounce until I could come to a stop. I took it back to the Ford dealership and they now recommend replacing all wheel bearings and damper assembly. They assured me the first time, the problem would be fixed. Have already spent $2,300 on them attempting to fix it and now they are recommending another fix of over $1,800 but now telling me, “it might not fix the issue.” I have a family. I am terrified I am going to harm myself or another individual while operating this f250. Ford wants me to dump money into a problem that they are aware of but refuse to make right. This issue, if not fixed, could kill myself or another individual or seriously harm someone.

I was driving on the highway over a bridge and the truck started wobbling uncontrollably when I hit 55. The scary part is you couldn’t really control the vehicle when it was wobbling like that. So the next day we went and bought me shocks for the front and back and it’s doing this.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this RQ to investigate allegations that the scope and remedy of safety recall 13V-535 were inadequate. Recall 13V-535 was limited to a relatively small population of Ambulance Package vehicles and ODI received complaints of pickup trucks and Fire Engine Prep Package vehicles being affected by the same defect. Ford manufactured approximately 555,985 subject vehicles between February 22, 2010 and January 30, 2015 that may be affected by defective EGT sensors and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software calibration. The subject vehicles are equipped with four (4) EGT sensors to monitor engine operating conditions. An EGT sensor fault may produce false exhaust over-temperature signals. If these signals are produced, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) implements a Failure Management Effects Mode (FMEM) and the driver receives a Stop Safely Now (SSN) system warning on the instrument cluster message center. The FMEM triggers a 70% reduction in available engine power over a period of no more than 45 seconds, during which it may not be possible to accelerate or maintain vehicle speed. The PCM then commands the engine to shut down when vehicle speed reaches approximately 1 mph. There is no immediate restart capability. Depending on the PCM software calibration, ignition key position and ambient temperature conditions, the engine may not restart until the end of a 10-60 minute cool down period.Ford and its component supplier(s) made numerous changes to the PCM software calibration and the design, material and manufacture of the EGT sensors over the period of subject vehicle production. This continuous product improvement affected vehicle performance regarding the alleged defect. Ford acknowledges the defect condition in the subject vehicles but argues that an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety is limited to Ambulance Package and Fire Engine Prep Package vehicles where commanded shutdown could impact emergency response and patient care. Ford also argues that the defect trend is in decline. Ford also initiated a new safety recall (15V-175) to address the 13V-535 remedy concerns in the Ambulance Package vehicles and Fire Engine Prep Package vehicles. The 15V-175 remedy reprograms the PCM with a new software calibration that stops a single EGT sensor fault to cause the vehicle to enter the FMEM shutdown mode.Ford also initiated an EPA emissions recall (14E03) for all subject vehicles that reprograms the PCM with the software calibration employed in safety recall 15V-175. Depending on the PCM software calibration, ignition key position and ambient temperature conditions, the engine may not restart until the end of a 10-60 minute cool down period.Ford and its component supplier(s) made numerous changes to the PCM software calibration and the design, material and manufacture of the EGT sensors over the period of subject vehicle production. This continuous product improvement affected vehicle performance regarding the alleged defect. Ford acknowledges the defect condition in the subject vehicles but argues that an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety is limited to Ambulance Package and Fire Engine Prep Package vehicles where commanded shutdown could impact emergency response and patient care. Ford also argues that the defect trend is in decline. Ford also initiated a new safety recall (15V-175) to address the 13V-535 remedy concerns in the Ambulance Package vehicles and Fire Engine Prep Package vehicles. The 15V-175 remedy reprograms the PCM with a new software calibration that stops a single EGT sensor fault to cause the vehicle to enter the FMEM shutdown mode.Ford also initiated an EPA emissions recall (14E03) for all subject vehicles that reprograms the PCM with the software calibration employed in safety recall 15V-175. Finally, Ford initiated a Customer Satisfaction Program (15M01) providing extended warranty coverage of 8 years or 80,000 miles for the the EGT sensors on certain MY2011-2012 subject vehicles.Due to the EPA emissions recall, that had a 66.6% completion rate in Ford's December 2015 progress report to the EPA, the defect trend is in decline. ODI is not aware of any crashes, deaths or injuries related to the alleged defect.ODI believes the alleged defect poses a safety risk but notes that the EPA emissions recall is addressing the safety problem.Compelling issuance of a duplicate recall would not represent a wise use of agency resources.Accordingly, this Recall Query is closed.This action is not a finding that no defect exists and NHTSA will take further action if such action is warranted.
