I RECENTLY PARKED MY TT AT OUR NEW RV CAMPGROUND. WHILE BACKING IT UP THE GATE OPENED RANDOMLY IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN AND DENTED THE TOP OF MY TAILGATE. EXTREMELY UPSET I NEW IT WAS GOING TO BE A HARD CASE TO SUBMIT TO WARRANTY FOR THEM TO BELIEVE THAT IT WASN'T USER ERROR. A FEW DAYS LATER I LEFT WORK AND DROVE 20 MILES DOWN THE HIGHWAY ONLY TO GET TO WHERE I WAS GOING AND GET OUT OF MY TRUCK TO SEE THE TAILGATE DOWN WITH A FULL PROPANE TANK IN THE BACK AN A $1000 WORTH OF FISHING POLES. TODAY I TOOK MY WIFE TO LUNCH AND WHEN WE PARKED AND GOT OUT THE GATE WAS DOWN AGAIN. WE ATE WENT A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD, SHOPPED AND UNLOCKED THE DOORS USING THE FOB AND THE GATE DROPPED. THAT'S TWICE IN ONE DAY. IT WAS GETTING WORSE. SHORTLY AFTER, I GOT A LAST MINUTE CALL TO MOVE MY TT DUE TO RISING WATERS HERE IN BUCHANAN AT THE RV PARK AND WHILE I WAS GETTING READY TO LEAVE THE GATE OPENED ON ITS OWN WHILE THE DOORS WERE UNLOCKED. SO I GOT OUT MY CAMERA AND CLOSED THE GATE. WITHIN 20 SECONDS IT OPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME I VIDEO TAPED IT AND TEXTED THE VIDEO TO MY FORD WARRANTY REP. I RUSHED MY TRUCK TO COVERT FORD AND BY GODS GOOD GRACE THE TAILGATE OPENED REPEATEDLY IN FRONT OF EVERY FORD REP WORKING. I'LL LET YOU KNOW WHAT THEY FIND. MY TRUCK IS A 2017 F250 LARIAT ULTIMATE. I HAVE A VIDEO BUT IT IS 9.63MB. EMAIL ME IF YOU WANT IT.

MY FORD F250 HAS A SEVERE "WOBBLE" WHEN HITTING BUMPS IN THE ROAD. THE TRUCK BEGINS TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND DOES NOT STOP UNTIL SLOWING TO ABOUT 35 MPH. THE FIRST TIME I WAS TRAVELING AT ONLY 45 MPH AND AFTER THAT IT HAPPENED AT GREATER SPPEEDS UP TO 70 MPH. AT TIMES, I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. IT HAPPENED BETWEEN 15-20 ON MY TRIP BACK TO TEXAS. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO FORD AND THEY ARE THE ONES WHO DESCRIBED IT AS A WOBBLE. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS DEFECT, I LEARNED THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE AT LEAST 2011 AND FORD WILL NOT CORRECT THIS AS A WARRANTY PROBLEM EVEN IF YOU'RE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD MY FRONT END WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT TO WHICH I REPLIED " IF IT IS, IT'S BECAUSE OF THE WOBBLE", AND OF COURSE THE MECHANIC SAID THAT WAS NOT POSSIBLE, BUT HE WAS NEVER IN THE TRUCK WHEN IT "WOBBLED". I THEN WAS TOLD ABOUT ANOTHER CORRECTION, BUT THE REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED. SO THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THE "WOBBLE" IS TO ADD STEERING/STABILIZER SHOCKS TO THE FRONT END AND PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET EVEN THOUGH IT IS A PROBLEM THAT FORD KNOWS ALL ABOUT. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WERE ABSOLUTELY NO HELP TELLING ME "AFTER MARKET PARTS", ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EVEN IF THAT IS WHAT IT TAKES TO REPAIR THE OBVIOUS DEFECT OF THE FORD F250. I HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT FORD WAS ADDING PARTS TO THE VEHICLE, RATHER I THOUGHT THEY WERE MAKING REPAIRS TO THE EXISTING VEHICLE. SO, IT IS OBVIOUS FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM AND HOW TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT THEY REFUSE TO TAKE OF THEIR VEHICLES OR THEIR CUSTOMER SAFETY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT WOULD BE EASY TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I AM ASKING YOU TO PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IT TURNS DEADLY, AND IT WILL TURN DEADLY.

THE AUTOMATIC TAILGATE IN THE 2017 KING RANCH F250 CAN COME OPEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHEN IN DRIVE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME AT LEAST 4 TIMES; MOST RECENTLY WHILE PULLING MY AIRSTREAM TRAILER WHILE IN UTAH, CAUSING DAMAGE TO MY AIRSTREAM PROPANE BOTTLES, THE ALUMINUM COVER, AND ALSO PUTTING A DENT IN MY F250 TAILGATE. THIS ISSUE COULD CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEMS IN TRAFFIC, SHOULD SOMETHING FALL OUT OF THE BACK DURING THIS MALFUNCTION. MY EXPERIENCE RECENTLY: I HAD JUST ENTERED THE FREEWAY AND WAS ACCELERATING TO FREEWAY SPEEDS IN UTAH, AFTER A QUICK STOP FOR TAKEOUT BREAKFAST AT MCDONALDS. A TRUCKER FLAGGED ME DOWN TO PULL OVER AS I ENTERED THE FREEWAY. HE RAN BACK AND TOLD ME MY TAILGATE WAS OPEN. UPON INSPECTION, IT APPEARED THE OPEN TAILGATE HAD CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY PROPANE TANKS ON MY AIRSTREAM, THE ALUMINUM COVER, AND ALSO PUT A DENT IN THE TAILGATE WHEN LEAVING MCDONALDS PARKING LOT ONTO THE STREET TO GET BACK ONTO THE FREEWAY. WE WERE LUCKY NOTHING HAD FALLEN OUT OF THE REAR BED, AS IT WAS PACKED WITH CAMPING GEAR. THE AUTOMATIC TAILGATE CAN ONLY BE ACTIVATED BY THE 'KEYFOB' OR BY MANUALLY PRESSING THE RELEASE BUTTON ON THE TAILGATE WHEN UNLOCKED. 1) THERE IS NO WAY TO OPEN OR LOCK THE TAILGATE OTHER THAN THE PUSH BUTTON ON THE TAILGATE OR WITH THE KEYFOB. 2) THERE IS NO INDICATION THE TAILGATE IS DOWN, ONCE IN DRIVE. (SAFETY ISSUE) 3) THE TAILGATE CAN/DOES OPEN INTERMITTENTLY ON OCCASION WHILE IN DRIVE WITHOUT ANY OPERATOR INTERVENTION.

WHILE PASSING A SLOWER VEHICLE , I HIT A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD WHICH CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY (DEATH SHAKE) ALMOST LOSING CONTROL OF TRUCK. I HAD TO MOVE BACK OVER INTO MY LANE BEFORE I SHOULD OF AND PULL OFF ONTO THE NARROW SHOULDER WHICH CAUSED ABOUT 6 VEHICLES BEHIND ME TO SWERVE TO MISS ME. AFTER SLOWING TO ABOUT 20 MPH THE SHAKE WENT AWAY. I CONTINUED ON DRIVING TILL I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF INTO A SAFE AREA TO INSPECT FOR A CAUSE, BUT DID NOT SEE ANYTHING LOOSE OR ABNORMAL IN ANY STEERING OR SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. FORTUNATELY I WASN'T TOWING MY CAMPER AT THE TIME, OTHERWISE I MAY NOT HAVE BEEN HERE TO SUBMIT THIS REPORT.

WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 40-45 MPH, WHEN I HIT A BUMP OR SERIES OF BUMPS THE FRONT END TENDS TO 'JUMP' IF I'M CORNERING OR WILL BOUNCE THE FRONT END THAT EFFECTS THE STEERING OF THE TRUCK. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (70MPH) GOING STRAIGHT HIT A COUPLE BUMPS IN THE ROAD AND THE TRUCKS FRONT END STARTED VIOLENTLY BOUNCING TO THE POINT I HAD TO SLOW WAY DOWN TO LESS THAN 10MPH BEFORE IT SMOOTHED BACK OUT. THIS IS A VERY SCARY THING TO HAPPEN AT THOSE SPEEDS. I COULD HAVE EASILY LOST CONTROL AND CAUSED A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT.

I BEGAN NOTICING SLIGHT FORMS OF WOBBLE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS/POTHOLES AT 24K MILES OF MY 2017 4WD SWB CC F250 PLATINUM. THIS PAST WEEKEND I GOT THE EXTREME VERSION OF DEATH WOBBLE (EXTREME STEERING WHEEL OSCILLATION) WHERE I THOUGHT I HAD BLOWN A COUPLE TIRES AT ABOUT 50 MPH AFTER HITTING A POTHOLE ON THE ROAD. I HAVE NEVER HAD A SUPER DUTY DO THIS IN MY PAST MODELS GOING BACK TO THE MID 90'S. HONESTLY, IT HURT MY BACK AND SHOULDER TRYING TO CONTROL IT AND REQUIRED A DEATH GRIP ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP FROM CHANGING LANES. ONLY THING THAT CAUSED IT TO SUBSIDE WAS SLOWING DOWN TO ABOUT 10-15 MPH AND THEN IT SMOOTHED OUT LIKE NORMAL. THIS HAPPENED ON A FREEWAY AND THANK GOODNESS NO VEHICLES WERE BESIDE ME. I WILL NOT LET MY WIFE OR FAMILY MEMBERS DRIVE THIS TRUCK GIVEN THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. I AM SCHEDULING TO TAKE TO DEALER AND LEAVE UNTIL IT IS GUARANTEED FIXED.

3PE24014 · Sogefi Secondary Diesel Fuel Filter Leak
Opened May 9, 2024 · No close date supplied
Status: open (inferred from source dates) · Fuel System, Diesel; Fuel System, Other:fuel Filter
The Office of Defect Investigations (ODI) has received 27 complaints alleging diesel fuel leaks due to a fracture in the secondary fuel filter housing in model year (MY) 2015-2021 Ford Motor Company (Ford) F-250, 350, 450, and 550 Super Duty vehicles equipped with 6.7L diesel engines. Of these complaints, 12 describe an engine compartment fire. The proximity of the secondary fuel filter to high heat sources creates a potential for autoignition thermal events and fires. ODI has contacted the vehicle manufacturer, Ford, and the filter manufacturer, Allevard Sogefi USA (Sogefi), and learned that the low-pressure fuel system is capable of a maximum operating pressure of 8.5 Bar, while the secondary fuel filter is only tested to seven (7) Bar during the manufacturing process. Additionally, changes starting in 2022 by both Ford and Sogefi align with a lack of similar complaints on MY 2022 and newer vehicles. ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to evaluate the severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related problems. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

In January 2021, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Recall Query (RQ21-001) to assess allegations of post-recall remedy uncommanded tailgate openings in model year (MY) 2017-2019 F-250/350/450 Ford trucks. Besides the recall remedy launched in January 2020, Ford also implemented a production update in November 2019. At the time of the RQ opening, ODI had received eleven (11) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs). ODI sent an Information Request (IR) to Ford in February 2021. In numerous meetings after receiving their IR response, Ford highlighted the drop in claims since the recall and production update and communicated how they were unable to verify the owners’ complaints or replicate the concern. Despite this, Ford began developing ways to prevent uncommanded tailgate openings from various human, mechanical or electrical causes. Based on testing, Ford issued a Customer Satisfaction program, 21M05-S1/S2/S3, to further address the potential of unintended tailgate openings. This work was applied to vehicles being produced as of December 20, 2021. The program began for already delivered vehicles on July 22, 2022. The covered models include 2017-2022 F-250, 350, 450, 550, 650 and 750 Super Duty and 2020-2022 F-600 Super Duty trucks. ODI has received 39 VOQs between February 24, 2020, and December 15, 2023, alleging uncommanded tailgate openings. In a detailed analysis, none of the vehicles in the VOQs were found to have received the Customer Satisfaction update. Since ODI has not received any complaints of post-Customer Satisfaction program tailgate openings, this office is closing this Recall Query. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. By letter dated December 4, 2019, Ford Motor Company (Ford) notified the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) of a safety defect that may exist in model years (MY) 2017 through 2019 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450 vehicles equipped with an electric tailgate. Following the receipt of five consumer complaints alleging unintended tailgate opening without vehicle operator knowledge, while the vehicles were in motion, NHTSA opened this investigation to assess the manufacturer's data including warranty claims, field reports, design changes, etc.In vehicles equipped with an electric tailgate, water can enter the electrical wiring system and may cause a short circuit resulting in the unintended activation and release of the tailgate latch. This could allow unintended opening of the tailgate while the vehicle is in motion.Analysis of the data provided by Ford found that the frequency of a tailgate opening unintended was high in vehicles equipped with electric tailgates. Unintended tailgate opening without vehicle operator knowledge may result in loss of unrestrained cargo, increasing the risk of a crash. In response to this investigation, Ford decided to conduct recall 19V-864.Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford dealer to modify the tailgate/frame wiring harnesses by adding jumper pigtails to isolate the tailgate release control circuits, and will install a new tailgate handle release switch. With recall action 19V-864 taken by Ford Motor Company this investigation is closed. Further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist on other model or MY vehicles outside of the recall scope.
