AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC TAIL GATE OPENS RANDOMLY WITHOUT DRIVER SELECTION. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING AND HAS CAUSED DAMAGE TO TAILGATE AND TRAVEL TRAILER. NO INDICATION TAILGATE IS OPEN GIVEN TO DRIVER. THIS HAPPENED WITHIN THE FIRST 100 MILES AFTER PURCHASE, THE FIRST TIME. IT HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AFTER THAT. LAST INCIDENT I HAD JUST PULLED ONTO THE FREEWAY AND WAS FLAGGED DOWN BY A PASSING TRUCKER WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 65MPH THAT MY TAILGATE HAD OPENED. IMAGINE IF SOMETHING HAD FALLEN OUT OF THE BED OF MY TRUCK AND CAUSED ANOTHER MOTORIST TO CRASH. I HAD HEARD A CREAKING SOUND WHILE TURNING ONTO A ROADWAY WITH MY AIRSTREAM TRAVEL TRAILER ATTACHED. THE TAILGATE HAD CRUNCHED AGAINST THE PROPANE BOTTLES CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TAILGATE, THE PROPANE BOTTLES, AND THE COVER. I CONTACTED FORD DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IN AUSTIN; THEY SUBMITTED TO FORD AND FORD SAID THEY WOULD PAY PART OF THE BILL, BUT I AM ON THE HOOK TO PAY ALSO. THIS IS A FORD WIRING HARNESS ISSUE. A FEW DAYS LATER I LEFT WORK AND DROVE 20 MILES DOWN THE HIGHWAY ONLY TO GET TO WHERE I WAS GOING AND GET OUT OF MY TRUCK TO SEE THE TAILGATE DOWN WITH A FULL PROPANE TANK IN THE BACK AN A $1000 WORTH OF FISHING POLES. TODAY I TOOK MY WIFE TO LUNCH AND WHEN WE PARKED AND GOT OUT THE GATE WAS DOWN AGAIN. WE ATE WENT A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD, SHOPPED AND UNLOCKED THE DOORS USING THE FOB AND THE GATE DROPPED. MY FORD F250 HAS A SEVERE "WOBBLE" WHEN HITTING BUMPS IN THE ROAD. THE TRUCK BEGINS TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND DOES NOT STOP UNTIL SLOWING TO ABOUT 35 MPH. THE FIRST TIME I WAS TRAVELING AT ONLY 45 MPH AND AFTER THAT IT HAPPENED AT GREATER SPPEEDS UP TO 70 MPH. AT TIMES, I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. IT HAPPENED BETWEEN 15-20 ON MY TRIP BACK TO TEXAS. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO FORD AND THEY ARE THE ONES WHO DESCRIBED IT AS A WOBBLE. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS DEFECT, I LEARNED THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE AT LEAST 2011 AND FORD WILL NOT CORRECT THIS AS A WARRANTY PROBLEM EVEN IF YOU'RE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD MY FRONT END WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT TO WHICH I REPLIED " IF IT IS, IT'S BECAUSE OF THE WOBBLE", AND OF COURSE THE MECHANIC SAID THAT WAS NOT POSSIBLE, BUT HE WAS NEVER IN THE TRUCK WHEN IT "WOBBLED". I THEN WAS TOLD ABOUT ANOTHER CORRECTION, BUT THE REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED. SO THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THE "WOBBLE" IS TO ADD STEERING/STABILIZER SHOCKS TO THE FRONT END AND PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET EVEN THOUGH IT IS A PROBLEM THAT FORD KNOWS ALL ABOUT. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WERE ABSOLUTELY NO HELP TELLING ME "AFTER MARKET PARTS", ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EVEN IF THAT IS WHAT IT TAKES TO REPAIR THE OBVIOUS DEFECT OF THE FORD F250. I HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT FORD WAS ADDING PARTS TO THE VEHICLE, RATHER I THOUGHT THEY WERE MAKING REPAIRS TO THE EXISTING VEHICLE. SO, IT IS OBVIOUS FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM AND HOW TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT THEY REFUSE TO TAKE OF THEIR VEHICLES OR THEIR CUSTOMER SAFETY. AS SOON AS SHE STOPPED THE TRUCK, SHE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND TOLD OUR DAUGHTER TO GET OUT OF THE TRUCK. AS SOON AS THEY GOT TO THE TAILGATE FLAMES STARTED SHOOTING OUT OF THE TRUCK. SHE SAW THAT THE FIRE STARTED ON THE LOWER RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE ENGINE WITH FLAMES DROPPING DOWN ABOUT ONE FOOT FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE. THIS IS THE LOCATION OF THE OIL FILTER ON THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK WAS SOON ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED AT APPROXIMATELY 3:30 IN THE AFTERNOON. SHE HAD THE OIL CHANGED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI (FORD GROVES) EARLIER THAT DAY. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND ONLY PROPERTY DAMAGE RESULTING FROM THE FIRE. IF THERE HAD BEEN A CHILD IN A CHILD RESTRAINT, IT COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED BY D & K TOWING AND STORED AT THEIR FACILITY IN SIKESTON. THE SCOTT COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO THE FIRE. THE TRUCK AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN PERSONAL PROPERTY WERE DESTROYED IN THE INCIDENT.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC, Mustang, F-350 SD, F-250 SD, F-450 SD, 2015-2017 Lincoln Navigator, Expedition, 2015-2018 Edge, Transit Connect, 2016-2019 F-550 SD, Transit, 2017-2019 Econoline, and 2019 Ranger vehicles. The rearview camera may display a distorted, inverted, or blank image when the vehicle is in reverse.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A rearview camera that displays an inverted, distorted, or blank image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the rearview camera as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 13, 2026. Ford owners will receive letters in phases, beginning January 2026 and June 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S89. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017-2018 F-Super Duty F-250, F-350, and F-450 4x4 vehicles. A radial damper inside the driveshaft may move out of position over time, which can cause a driveshaft imbalance and result in a fracture.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A fractured driveshaft can cause a loss of drive power. Additionally, a vehicle rollaway could occur while parked if the parking brake is not engaged. Either of these scenarios increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the driveshaft, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 27, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S74.

Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Lack of a clear rearview camera image can reduce the driver's visibility of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Consequence: A fractured driveshaft can cause a loss of drive power, or a loss of vehicle control if the driveshaft contacts the ground. Additionally, unintended movement could occur while parked if the parking brake is not engaged. Any of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017-2019 F-Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 SuperCrew Cab vehicles with carpet flooring. If a front seat belt pretensioner deploys as the result of a crash, the sparks may ignite materials such as carpeting or insulation within the B-pillar area.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A vehicle fire could result if materials ignite inside the vehicle.
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will apply heat resistant tape to the carpet and its insulation, and modify the B-Pillar insulation as necessary, free of charge. Consequence: Unintended tailgate opening may allow unrestrained cargo to fall out of the truck bed and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

By letter dated December 4, 2019, Ford Motor Company (Ford) notified the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) of a safety defect that may exist in model years (MY) 2017 through 2019 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450 vehicles equipped with an electric tailgate. Following the receipt of five consumer complaints alleging unintended tailgate opening without vehicle operator knowledge, while the vehicles were in motion, NHTSA opened this investigation to assess the manufacturer's data including warranty claims, field reports, design changes, etc.In vehicles equipped with an electric tailgate, water can enter the electrical wiring system and may cause a short circuit resulting in the unintended activation and release of the tailgate latch. This could allow unintended opening of the tailgate while the vehicle is in motion.Analysis of the data provided by Ford found that the frequency of a tailgate opening unintended was high in vehicles equipped with electric tailgates. Unintended tailgate opening without vehicle operator knowledge may result in loss of unrestrained cargo, increasing the risk of a crash. In response to this investigation, Ford decided to conduct recall 19V-864.Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford dealer to modify the tailgate/frame wiring harnesses by adding jumper pigtails to isolate the tailgate release control circuits, and will install a new tailgate handle release switch. With recall action 19V-864 taken by Ford Motor Company this investigation is closed. Further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist on other model or MY vehicles outside of the recall scope.
