The technician from the local Ford dealership came out to fix NHTSA recall 26V237 on 8/7/26. The fix for this was to reprogram the Powertrain Control Module software. My husband got into his truck 3 days later, (8/10/26), and after driving half a mile the check engine light came on and the truck began to drive rough. He immediately took the truck to our local mechanic, (not at the Ford dealership). The next day we were told the PCM was fried and we would need to tow the truck to the Ford dealership for the fix. My husband explained the situation and they denied culpability. The truck had never had any computer, or computer related issues, until the PCM was "reprogrammed".

I took my sick disabled mother's truck to the same dealership that she bought the truck from in 2018 with a full cash payment. The truck is a 2015 Ford F-150 platinum edition and it only had 40 thousand miles on it at the time and the person i believe that was over the service department was the first person i talked to at this dealership and i told her that my mother was sick and disabled and on oxygen and we use this truck for her medical transportation to her doctor's appointments and that the truck is our only means of transportation and that i am a burned out full time caregiver in need of urgent help to get the truck fixed and any recalls fixed so the truck would be safe to drive again and she told me its okay and that she has been there before and it made me feel so good to finally have someone that understands how it feels so she immediately had a brand new 2026 Ford F-150 XLT texas edition loaner truck already waiting for me after she said that she could get me in but without a loaner vehicle and she immediately called me back and said she got a loaner for me but i thought it was odd that she managed to get one that fast well to find out the loaner truck was pulled right from their fleet inventory and still had the factory monroe sticker still on the windshield and after awhile i noticed the dealer plates where expired and she arranged the entire process to bring the truck in on August 1st at 8:45am on a Saturday morning to have all of the recalls fixed and any damage or mechanical issues that may have been caused by the recalls and we brought them a very well maintained fully running truck except the engine light was showing because of a violent downshifting after the dealership called and said the truck was completely fixed and running great downshifting fixed. Driving home same day the truck started pouring smoke, sparks, grinding, and slapping barely made it in driveway catastrophic totaled truck sitting at dealership lot since August 12th!!

I am submitting this complaint regarding Ford Recall 26S28 (NHTSA Recall 26V237). My truck exhibited the dangerous unintended downshift condition described in this recall for several weeks before the repair remedy became available. A few weeks weeks before April 27, 2026, the truck began unexpectedly downshifting from approximately 5th or 6th gear into a much lower gear while driving. Each event caused the truck to enter limp mode, illuminate the wrench light, display multiple warning lights, and shake violently. I had to pull off the road, shut the truck off, wait several minutes, and restart it before it would drive normally again. I immediately reported these incidents to Mike White Ford and was repeatedly told to monitor the vehicle because no recall remedy was available. I reported the issue again during an oil change on April 27, 2026. Driving home from that appointment (9 miles), the truck experienced two more unintended downshifts. We immediately called the dealership and were again told to continue monitoring it. The condition progressively worsened over the next several weeks. On May 31, 2026, the truck experienced six unintended downshifts in one day. After the final event, it became difficult to restart and the check engine light illuminated. By my June 8 appointment, the truck was stuck in permanent limp mode and had to be towed to the dealership. The service manager stated it was "unsafe to drive" and provided a loaner vehicle. The truck later stored DTC P0219 (Engine Overspeed) and P2112 (Throttle Actuator Control System-Stuck Closed). I estimate the unintended downshift occurred approximately 75 times before the truck became inoperable. I opened Ford case CXH08666656S0W4Q2 on July 21, 2026. I respectfully request that NHTSA review whether prolonged operation with this known recall condition, while owners awaited a repair remedy, may contribute to additional vehicle failures and increased safety risks.

Vehicle suffered a violent, un-commanded highway-speed downshift due to NHTSA Campaign 26V237000 / Ford Recall 26S28. The tachometer was redlined during the incident. The mechanical overspeed immediately damaged the engine's cam phasers. Eide Ford in Mandan, ND, applied the recall software patch after the structural failure already occurred, cleared the diagnostic trouble codes without providing a copy to the owner, and is refusing to replace the lead frame or cover the resulting valve train damage, demanding $7,200 out-of-pocket.

The truck exhibited the abrupt downshifting upon driving out of the parking lot, this caused great stress and possible accidents to me and family. The transmission continued to get worse and we were in fear of our lives to drive the vehicle on the highway. Once we got the vehicle home it literally would not shift into gear and has been disabled since the first week in XXX. We are plumbing and heat contractors and have lost a great deal of business due to not having a truck/this truck to use for work. We had it towed to Greico Ford in [XXX] on advice from Keith, the Service Mgr. We know the recall is due in XXX. This dealership is now trying to tell us that all the hoses are damaged and wants to charge us $2,000 to repair the hoses. We obviously don't want to do this since we believe the violent jarring and downshifting of the transmission caused by this MFG defect probably caused this and a lot more other problems. Component or system that failed: The backup camera system failed and is completely inoperable. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: The failure of the backup camera creates a safety hazard when reversing the vehicle. Without the camera providing visibility behind the truck, there is an increased risk of striking a pedestrian, another vehicle, or an object that may not be visible using mirrors alone. Confirmation of the problem: Yes. An authorized Ford dealership diagnosed the failure and charged me for the inspection. The dealer informed me that my vehicle is not covered under Ford's existing backup camera recall. Inspection by others: The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or an insurance representative. The dealership did not provide information or assistance regarding how to have the issue reviewed by Ford or pursue any further action. Warning lamps or prior symptoms: There were no warning lights, messages, or other indications that the backup camera was beginning to fail. The failure occurred without warning. The problem first occurred in 2025.

Hooked up my trailer after coming home from a trip to take it to a dump station to empty the tanks. Ford OEM Trailer Brake Control Module locked the brakes on my trailer immediately and then short circuited itself, emitting a burnt electrical smell through out the vehicle, then suddenly released the brakes and would not function via the brake petal or manually engaging the lever. There were no previous indications that an issue was happening. After removing I found that a single chip had bubbled and melted itself. Had this happened while the trailer was in significant motion, such as towing down a canyon, could have resulted in catastrophic loss.

I received a safety recall notice 26S28/NHTSA Recall 26V237 On the same day that this occurred in my truck. Luckily for me, I was within 2 miles of home, the only way I could get home was to drive in first gear up the mountain road to get there. My truck is not drivable. If this happens on a freeway, I most likely would be rear ended as the vehicle stops suddenly. What recourse do I have from Ford motor company since I can’t drive the truck that they sold me? The recall notice says a fix won’t be ready until July, and that is a long time from now. I need a vehicle to drive. I feel like not having this remedy ready yet means that it’s not ready in a timely manner.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2017 F-150 vehicles. A loss of signal between the transmission range sensor and the powertrain control module can cause the transmission to unexpectedly downshift into second gear.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Unexpectedly downshifting into second gear may result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the powertrain control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 24, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A loss of brake fluid may result in a change in brake pedal travel and feel, increased pedal effort and reduced front brake function, possibly requiring greater effort and distance to stop the vehicle. These conditions can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake master cylinder and inspect the brake booster, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. Ford issued owners an interim notification on June 30, 2020. The recall began on October 28, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S31.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2019 Ford F-150 and 2017-2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty, F-450 Super Duty, and F-550 Super Duty pick-up trucks equipped with an engine block heater. Water and contaminants may get into the block heater cable's splice connector causing corrosion and damage.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: When the heater is plugged in, prolonged corrosion could cause a resistive short, increasing the risk of overheated or melted wiring which can increase the risk of a fire.
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will disable the block heater cable, free of charge. Once parts are available, Dealers will replace the engine block heater cable, free of charge. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Ford F-150, and 2017 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks. The doors on these vehicles may have a bent or kinked actuation cable or the door latches may freeze after water gets into the latch. Either condition can result in the doors opening while driving although they appear to be closed.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A door that opens while driving can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the door latch actuation cables and repair if necessary, and install water shields over the door latches, free of charge. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2017 F-150, and 2017 F-250 and F-350 trucks equipped with a crew cab. The left rear inflatable seat belt buckle assembly may be inadequately attached to its mounting bracket. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If the left rear inflatable seat belt buckle separates from it's mounting bracket, the seat occupant may not be adequately restrained, increasing their risk of injury.
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat belt assembly, replacing the attaching rivet as necessary, free of charge. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed October 18, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy becomes available. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2015 Ford F-150 SuperCrew trucks manufactured January 22, 2015, to March 17, 2015. The affected vehicles may be equipped with driver or front passenger seat belt anchorage assemblies whose pretensioner cable was not properly crimped. As a result, the seat belts may not properly restrain the seat occupant in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies" and 210, " Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An occupant that is not be properly restrained is at an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

On March 21, 2025, NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation (PE25002) to investigate instances of unexpected transmission downshifting without driver input in model year (MY) 2015-2017 Ford F-150 vehicles (subject vehicles) manufactured by Ford Motor Company (Ford). The complaints allege that, without warning or driver input, the subject vehicles experienced a sudden and rapid deceleration often accompanied by temporary rear wheel lockup, seizure, or skidding, resulting in a loss of vehicle control that increases the risk of crash and injury to all motorists, including those not within the subject vehicles. The MY 2015 and MY 2016 F-150 vehicles were equipped with the “6R80” transmission, while the MY 2017 vehicles were equipped with either the “6R80” transmission or the “10R80” transmission. This investigation was limited to MY 2015-2017 Ford F-150 with the “6R80” transmission. ODI identified 329 Vehicle Owners Questionnaires (VOQs) related to this investigation and sixty percent of these consumers were interviewed to confirm the details of their allegations. Consumers reported that their vehicles’ transmission suddenly downshifted to a lower gear, often to 1st or 2nd gear, without driver input or advance warning. Consumers described the downshift events to be regular and repeated occurrences, with some consumers stating that they no longer drive the vehicle due to safety concerns. Forty-three percent of consumers reported experiencing at least one wheel lockup event, during which the rear tires locked, screeched, or skidded during the transmission downshift. ODI also found that 114 of the 329 consumers reported having their vehicle’s molded lead frame or valve body assembly (which comes with a molded lead frame) replaced, 80 of which were confirmed through consumer submitted repair invoices. In its response to ODI’s Information Request, Ford provided an assessment of potential root cause of failure for the subject vehicles and how this failure is different from the failure associated with MY 2011-2014 Ford F-150 vehicles that was addressed by four safety recalls (16V-248, 19V-075, 19V-433, and 24V-444). Ford has identified that the defect in the recalled vehicle population involved lead frame supplier production issues resulting in signal loss from the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor. Ford has identified that the alleged defect in the subject vehicle population involved degradation of electrical connections within the lead frame due to thermal cycling and vibration over extended time in service resulting in signal loss from the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS). Signal loss from the TRS can result in an unintended shift to neutral, unintended upshift, or unintended downshift which are regulated by a gear “shift map” based on the vehicle’s speed at the time of signal loss. According to Ford’s “shift map”, at speeds between 35-64 mph, the maximum allowable downshift would be to 2nd gear (i.e. a 6th to 2nd gear downshift event) which Ford has designated to represent the worst-case scenario for subject vehicles. Ford has also acknowledged that the worst-case scenario may also involve temporary wheel lockup. However, Ford has stated that the failure mechanism in the MY 2011-2014 F-150 vehicles—previously addressed through recalls—primarily involved OSS sensor signal loss that could result in 6th to 1st gear downshift events. This OSS-related failure mode is distinct from the TRS-related signal loss identified in the subject vehicle population. ODI has identified an additional potential safety defect associated with the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. Preliminary testing performed by NHTSA’s Vehicle Research Test Center (VRTC) showed that when the TRS experiences an intermittent signal loss, one possible outcome is a change in vehicle direction. Specifically, if a vehicle is operating in reverse up an incline when the TRS signal loss occurs, then the vehicle may shift into neutral causing the vehicle to change directions and roll forward. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysis (EA) to, among other things, perform component-level testing and vehicle testing, as well as review additional technical information to better understand the alleged defect that has been identified. On June 18, 2018, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation (PE18-008) to investigate complaints alleging post-crash fires at the B pillar in the area of the seat belt pretensioners on MY 2014-2018 Ford F-150 Regular Cab, and Super Crew Cab Vehicles. On August 24, 2018, Ford Motor Company recalled (FSA 18S27 - NHTSA #18V568) the affected population. Ford's investigation found that some front seat belt pretensioners may generate sparks during deployment in excess of Ford's specification. Sparks in the pretensioner exhaust gases inside the lower portion of the B-pillar may subsequently ignite combustible components contained in the B-pillar, such as insulation or carpet, and may cause a subsequent vehicle fire. ODI also requested relevant information from other manufacturers to assess the potential scope of post-crash pretensioner fires. Ford will notify owners and require dealers to remove B-pillar insulation material and wiring harness tape, and install heat resistant tape, free of charge. On June 8, 2020, Ford Motor Company issued a safety recall (NHTSA Recall No. 20V-332) of 292,311 model year (MY) 2014-2017 Ford F-150 vehicles equipped with 3.5L Ecoboost engines and built from 9/1/2014 to 8/1/2016. Ford stated that the causes of brake fluid loss in the master cylinder are brake fluid contamination that can interfere with rear cup seal function, and rolling of the rearmost cup seal.Prior to total loss of the front brakes, depending on the amount of brake fluid loss in the master cylinder, the driver may receive an audible chime, message center alert and red brake warning indicator in the instrument cluster, and may experience a change in brake pedal travel and increased pedal effort. It should be noted that a small number of late-built MY 2014 and early-built MY 2017 F-150 vehicles are included in the recall along with the subject vehicles (MY 2015-2016).This Recall Query is closed based on the safety recall issued by Ford.
