2018 Ford Edge

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle overheated. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of coolant. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced due to coolant leaking into the cylinders. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

The trim pieces surrounding the front and sides of the moon roof fly off vehicle when driving. Has happened 3 times now, twice at speed when a large truck passed from opposite direction and once at medium speed it with no passing vehicle. These flying pieces pose a threat to nearby vehicles, motorcyclists and pedestrians. Dealer repair and body shop employees have seen the results when repairing. No warning lights or messages. In initial Ford Case # CAS24094836 (May, 2019) repair was covered under warranty. Second repair 8/13/2019 I had to escalate thru Ford Customer Care to get covered under extended warranty. This time the parts flew off soon after leaving dealer body shop so had to go back for 3rd repair. Fourth repair done 9/6/2022 done by local body shop.

The vehicle was not repaired as the warranty company informed her that this was a known Ford defect. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to call the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where coolant was added to the vehicle; however, the failure recurred, and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic where a spark plug was replaced. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed as coolant fluid leaking into the engine causing engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

While driving at normal speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to AutoZone where a diagnostic test was performed and produced code:P0456 indicating (EVAP System fault). Additionally, the vehicle was previously repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and I contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer to be diagnosed and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact took the vehicle to a second dealer, Eugene Vaughn Ford Sales (106 Hwy 63 West, Marked Tree, AR 72365: (870) 358-2822) to be diagnosed and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to a coolant leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000. The contact stated that the second dealer replaced the motor. Cost of repair will not be covered by Ford because the vehicle has over 60,000 miles.

The contact stated that the vehicle jerked and then abruptly accelerated with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the torque converter and clutch cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. On another occasion while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to respond and started jerking. The contact pulled over on the side of the road and looked under the hood and noticed smoke coming from the transmission. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V390000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 88,000.

APIM Module needs replacing. Screen keeps going black, does not work after trying to reset. Took to dealer and stated it does not work. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!! No contols no navigation, cannot adjust heating, defrost and no rearview camera. makes it difficult to drive. Was told screen needs replacing too with this defect. There are many web reports of same issue with ford and they should be responsible for this repair
