Service Brakes

Brakes became incredibly soft. Could push brake pedal almost all the way to the floor with out slowing the vehicle. Had to leave roadway to avoid an accident. A hissing sound was heard when applying pressure to the brake pedal. This seems to be a know issue to Ford.

My brakes suddenly became hard to press, and my car became almost impossible to stop on the freeway, and there is a hissing noise coming from under the brake pedal. My car has less than 90,000 miles, and has had only one owner, and was always serviced at a licensed Ford dealership. There have been no aftermarket parts installed. In addition, my car has always been garaged, both at home and at work, and no one else has driven it. It appears that there is a faulty brake booster that should have been recalled and repaired for free by Ford. This is a very serious and potentially deadly defect.

Power Steering malfunctioned. Wife had kids in the car and lost steering control. All power steering fluid loss out of banjo bolt that connects the power steering high pressure line to the steering gear. Ford has a TSB on these regarding this issue. Service bulletin ASI-44308 Steering NHTSA ID number 10054565. I had to have a mechanic replace the whole rack and pinion due to the pitting the salt caused on the aluminum by corroding. This is fords mistake. Thankfully no one was hurt. Secondly, I had to pay $945 for something that should have never happened. This is a huge safety concern and Ford Knows about it!

I needed increased effort to engage the brakes, totally lost all brake power when driving on a highway. Started out spongy and then it was like engaging a brick. Had to veer off the highway and almost caused a major accident. Brake pedal is hissing and spongy.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the brake assist was failing due to the vehicle not braking properly. The contact stated that excessive brake pedal pressure was needed to stop the vehicle. The vehicle made an abnormal hissing sound when the brake was applied. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact referenced an unknown recall regarding the brake booster and stated that it was confirmed by the dealer that the Vin was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

I FILED COMPLAINT #11192472 IN 2019 AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO FIND OUT FROM THE LOCAL FORD DEALER THE STATUS OF FORD HAVING THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT FOR THE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT FOR THIS RECALL. THEY HAD NOT HEARD FROM FORD AT THAT LAST CONTACT IN MARCH 2019 REGARDING THE NEEDED PARTS. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER SINCE, AS THEY COULD NOT GET ANY INFORMATION ABOUT IF AND WHEN FORD WOULD HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE TO THE DEALERS TO MAKE THE NECESSARY REPLACEMENT. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Ranger, 2006-2012 Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Lincoln MKZ, 2006-2011 Mercury Milan, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side airbag inflator or module with an alternate one, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 9, 2021 for the passenger side, and November 14, 2022 for the driver side. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Consequence & remedy

Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the frontal air bag, an inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured September 11, 2008, to July 1, 2010, and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 23, 2008, to July 1, 2010, originally sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Due to corrosion from salt water exposure such as from road salt use, the affected vehicles may leak fuel from the fuel tank seam weld under the tank mounting reinforcement brackets.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and either clean and treat the fuel tank with a corrosion preventative or replace the tank, free of charge.
