My 2023 Ford Bronco Sport is subject to NHTSA Safety Recall 25V467 / Ford Recall 25S76, issued July 16, 2025. Ford states that a fuel injector may crack, resulting in fuel accumulating on top of the engine. Ford further states that liquid fuel or fuel vapor accumulating near hot engine or exhaust components may ignite and result in an under-hood fire, increasing the risk of injury. As of September 2026, more than a year after this recall was issued, Ford's VIN-specific recall website continues to show the recall as incomplete and states: "Parts are not currently available. Ford Motor Company is working to provide parts for this repair." I am concerned that I am being expected to continue operating a vehicle with a manufacturer-acknowledged fuel leak and fire hazard while no final repair is available. I am requesting that NHTSA review Ford's continued inability to provide the remedy for Recall 25V467/25S76 and determine whether Ford is meeting its obligation to provide an effective safety recall remedy within a reasonable period of time. I would also like NHTSA to determine whether additional interim safety instructions or other action is warranted for owners who continue to operate these vehicles while awaiting repair.

Ford cannot fix the fuel injector issue which according to Ford can start a fire in the engine. Now the water pump had to be replaced as it was leaking coolant. No recall. And the front shocks are leaking fluid. The seat belt fix remains as Ford does not have the parts. This is a 3 year old vehicle that has been the subject to several recalls and more recalls by Ford need implemented. I have not gone without a vehicle for over 8 days. And again an engine light is one that Ford is still looking into.

This vehicle has been in multiple times for major repairs and is currently in for transmission replacement and coolant replacements. Both of these have already had parts replaced. The recall on my car has been on it for a year and has yet to be addressed. I was told that my car started smoking while in ford possession and attempting repairs. When I questioned the recall I was told it wasn’t a big deal and that it was just a system thing and not a danger. This does not seem to be the case. The vehicle has had issues since 15000 miles and has been repaired 4 times but officially broke down at 96000 miles in less than 3 years.

The affected component is the fuel injector system covered under Ford’s safety recall. According to the recall notice, a fuel injector may crack and allow fuel and/or fuel vapors to accumulate on top of the engine, creating a risk of fire if exposed to hot engine or exhaust components. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The safety risk is significant because the defect involves the potential for an under-hood fire while driving or while the vehicle is parked after operation. I use this vehicle as my primary means of transportation and have concerns about my safety and the safety of passengers due to the possibility of a fire occurring before a repair is available. The issue has been confirmed by Ford through its issuance of the safety recall. I have contacted Ford and dealership service departments regarding the recall. However, I have been informed that repair parts are not yet available, leaving the vehicle unrepaired despite the acknowledged safety defect. The vehicle has been inspected by authorized Ford dealerships in connection with related concerns. I have also communicated directly with Ford regarding the recall and the lack of an available remedy. No specific warning lights or messages related to a cracked fuel injector appeared prior to my awareness of the defect. My concern arises from Ford’s recall notice identifying a condition that may lead to fuel leakage and an engine compartment fire. Because parts are unavailable, I am unable to have the safety defect corrected despite Ford’s acknowledgment of the risk.

2023 Ford Bronco Sport purchased 2 years ago with only 1 minor recall. I’ve had to replace my water pump already and it’s had a fuel injector recall (amongst others) in place for over a year and FORD is unable to remedy due to not having parts. This could cause a fire in my engine and is a major safety risk. On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, yet ANOTHER recall, making that 14 TOTAL recalls on the 2023 Bronco Sport, with a DO NOT DRIVE ADVISORY due to a suspension failure, was issued. These issues are incredibly unsafe and put drivers at a very serious risk of injury or death. I attempted to work with a local Ford dealership in hopes they would buy the vehicle back however they REFUSED unless I traded it in for another vehicle on their lot. Otherwise, I would have had to PAY FORD $2,000 to make up the difference in “value” (I disputed the value as I had one KBB report and they had a “different” one) and my loan payoff. I stated several times I cannot put thousands of dollars down to purchase a new vehicle at this time; however, I do not want to drive this unsafe hazardous vehicle for another day. They would not work with me at all nor did they offer to fix it or even look at the vehicle. Under NO circumstances should an owner have to pay Ford for their negligence and poor manufacturing, especially with a recent DO NOT DRIVE ADVISORY issued, no matter how much the owner owes on their loan. This is 100% a FORD issue, not a user issue, not wear and tear issue. These recalls are wildly unsafe and defective issues that lie within FORD that we as owners, should not bear the burden for. How is FORD being held accountable and at what point will they start buying these unsafe and terrible cars back without penalizing the owners? It seems far more logical and safe to buy back and lose out on $2,000 rather than taking the risk on paying millions and millions of dollars in lawsuits. This is a disgusting business practice on behalf of FORD and they should be held accountable.

On or about December 2025, the vehicle began emitting strong fuel/exhaust fumes through the air conditioning vents during operation. The fumes were noticeable inside the passenger cabin and created concerns of toxic exposure and possible fire risk. The condition was reported to an authorized Ford dealership, Hacienda Ford, which retained the vehicle for inspection for approximately two months. The dealership acknowledged concerns involving the fuel system/fuel injectors and performed inspection procedures and software-related recall work; however, the vehicle was later returned without replacement or repair of fuel system components. After the vehicle was released, the same fuel/fume odor condition reoccurred during normal driving, including an incident where the fumes became overwhelming inside the cabin while driving toward [XXX] . The vehicle is associated with an open safety recall identified as manufacturer recall 25S76 / NHTSA campaign 25V467, described as “remedy not yet available.” Despite repeated reports of fuel/exhaust fumes and concerns involving possible fuel injector defects, Ford Motor Company and the dealership have not provided a written determination that the vehicle is safe to operate. A formal final escalation letter was sent to Ford Motor Company demanding a safety determination, alternate repair authorization, reimbursement of towing expenses, and clarification regarding open recalls and known fuel system issues. The letter was delivered on April 29, 2026, but no response was received within the requested deadline. The consumer believes the vehicle may present an ongoing safety hazard involving fuel vapor intrusion and potential fire risk. The defect remains unresolved. The vehicle remains parked. The apparent failure involves the engine lubrication and/or cooling system. After approximately 30 minutes of driving, I noticed a strong burning oil/fluid/exhaust-type odor. Initially, I believed it was coming from other vehicles because my vehicle had passed inspection about two weeks earlier. Once parked and away from traffic, it became clear the odor was coming from my vehicle. About one hour later, I discovered a large puddle of oil underneath the vehicle. Upon inspection, the coolant reservoir was nearly empty and the engine oil level was almost completely absent from the dipstick. I added approximately four quarts of oil. The leak appears to occur or worsen once the engine reaches operating temperature. No warning lights, dashboard messages, or other indicators appeared before or during the failure. There were no visible leaks where the vehicle had been parked earlier that same day. The burning odor was the only symptom prior to discovering the fluid loss. This created a serious safety risk because the vehicle appears capable of rapidly losing oil and coolant without warning, which could result in engine seizure, loss of power, fire risk, or loss of vehicle control while driving. Oil leaking onto road surfaces could also create hazards for other motorists. The vehicle has never been off-road or driven on anything other than paved roads, and the leak does not appear to originate from the oil drain plug area. The vehicle and failed components are available for inspection upon request. Because this occurred during the weekend, the vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer or independent repair facility. I intend to contact the dealer on Monday for diagnosis and inspection. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives.

3RQ24014 · Loss Of Motive Power
Opened Nov 15, 2024 · Closed Oct 10, 2025
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V Battery
On January 31, 2024, The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation (PE24002) to investigate loss of motive power allegations in model year (MY) 2021 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles. Consumers reported a loss of engine power accompanied by complete electrical system failure either while driving or after stopping at a traffic light or stop sign. The vehicles generally could not be restarted, and the incidents were commonly diagnosed by dealerships to a failed 12-Volt (12V) battery. On April 12, 2024, Ford issued safety recall 24V-267 covering 456,565 MY 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles. The recall addressed loss of motive power resulting from sudden degradation of the 12V battery during the drive cycle. The recall remedy consisted of software updates to the body control module and the powertrain control module. The updated software aimed to provide warning to consumers when the battery is failing and inhibit certain vehicle functions which can lead to loss of motive power incidents. Additionally, Ford removed the existing 12V Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB) as both a service component for the subject vehicles and original equipment for newly built Bronco Sport vehicles (during MY 2024 production), replacing it with a more robust absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery. The same AGM battery had been incorporated into Ford Maverick production in late 2022. Following recall 24V-267, ODI received loss of motive power complaints in vehicles that had previously received Ford’s software-based remedy. Consumers reported that they did not receive warnings related to the 12V battery or the vehicle’s electrical system before the loss of power. On November 15, 2024, ODI opened Recall Query (RQ24014) to assess the effectiveness of the 24V-267 recall remedy. On January 19, 2025, Ford issued recall 25V-019 covering 272,817 MY 2021-2023 Bronco Sport and MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles. The new recall addressed the same hazard as 24V-267 but required replacement of the existing 12V battery with an AGM battery as the remedy. Ford reported that following the opening of RQ24014, it evaluated several field-returned 12V batteries, and determined that EFBs produced by battery supplier Camel potentially contained internal manufacturing defects causing loss of motive power. Ford further concluded that the software updates provided in the 24V-267 recall remedy were unable to detect battery failures quickly enough to avoid loss of motive power. Vehicles previously within the scope of recall 24V-267, but outside of the scope of recall 25V-019, are equipped with EFBs produced by a different battery supplier (Clarios). When recall 25V-019 was issued, Ford had not identified any Clarios EFBs exhibiting the same failure mode as the Camel EFBs. In light of Ford’s recall action, ODI is closing this Recall Query. The agency will continue to monitor loss of motive power complaints in Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with Clarios EFBs and reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. RQ24008 · Underhood Fires Caused By Fuel Leak
Opened Apr 11, 2024 · Closed Oct 30, 2025
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Fuel System, Gasoline:fuel Injection System:injectors
On April 11, 2024, NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation (“ODI”) opened this Recall Query (“RQ”) to investigate the adequacy of, including various safety concerns associated with, the remedy program in recalls 22V-859 (filed Nov. 18, 2022) and 24V-187 (filed Mar. 8, 2024). The vehicle population associated with these recalls includes certain MY 2020-2022 Ford Escape vehicles and MY 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with 1.5L engines. The safety defect in each recall involves high-pressure fuel injectors that are susceptible to cracking, allowing liquid fuel and fuel vapor to migrate onto hot surfaces within the engine compartment potentially resulting in underhood vehicle fires. The remedy programs described in recalls 22V-859 and 24V-187 are identical and involve both a software component and a hardware component. Specifically, Ford developed an updated engine control software designed to detect a pressure drop in the high-pressure fuel rail, provide instrument cluster messaging to the driver, invoke a strategy to disable the high-pressure fuel pump, derate the engine output, and lower the temperatures of possible ignition sources within the engine compartment. Additionally, Ford would install a tube into the engine’s cylinder head drain hole to shunt spilled liquid fuel past the various hot surfaces within the engine compartment and ultimately discard the spilled liquid fuel onto the roadway. ODI identified various safety concerns with this remedy program, which, among other things, notably did not include repairing or replacing the defective part and potentially did include the introduction of new safety defects (like fuel spilling near the spark plugs and fuel spilling onto the public roadway). NHTSA opened this investigation to evaluate these concerns with the remedy program, including whether the vehicles were still susceptible to underhood fires even post-remedy. As described in more detail in the Additional Summary posted simultaneously with this resume, ODI conducted a thorough investigation that included analyzing data and other materials received in response to two Information Requests, as well as inspections of post-remedy vehicles that experienced an underhood fire. ODI and Ford worked to identify and locate vehicles that experienced post-remedy fires and conduct joint vehicle inspections. ODI’s investigation also prompted Ford to initiate a more in-depth evaluation of the defect, including Ford’s conducting component level testing of high-pressure fuel injectors. ODI met with Ford on several occasions throughout this investigation to jointly conduct certain of these described tasks and to discuss test results. A collateral issue surfaced as a result of this investigation: in March 2025, Ford realized that despite relevant repairs having been recorded as successfully completed, approximately 33,576 vehicles subject to recalls 22V-859 and 24V-187 did not have the software component of the remedy program installed correctly. Thus, on March 27, 2025, Ford filed a new related recall (25V-165) for these vehicles, notifying NHTSA and the public that they were still at risk of experiencing an underhood vehicle fire due to cracked fuel injectors despite the consumer having had their vehicle remedied pursuant to one of the two earlier recalls. In June 2025, Ford committed to implementing a new remedy program to repair the vehicles. On July 11, 2025, Ford documented this commitment in a new recall filing (25V-467), which explains that Ford’s upcoming remedy program will involve proactive replacement of all high-pressure fuel injectors within the recall population. In view of the recall action taken by Ford, ODI is closing this Recall Query, which was opened given NHTSA’s concerns that the initial remedy programs of the software to detect the pressure drop plus installation of the drain tube did not constitute an adequate repair. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
PE24002 · Loss Of Motive Power
Opened Jan 31, 2024 · Closed Aug 19, 2024
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V Battery
On January 31, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE24002 to investigate allegations of loss of motive power in model year (MY) 2021 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles. At that time, ODI had received 31 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs), with consumers commonly reporting a loss of engine power accompanied by complete electrical system failure which occurred either while driving, or after coming to a stop. The investigation revealed that MY 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and certain MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles are equipped with a 12V enhanced flooded battery (EFB), which may experience an abrupt failure during a drive cycle. The failure is the result of an internal corrosion issue, which is influenced by long exposure to high under-hood temperatures. If the sudden loss of 12V battery voltage is not detected by the vehicle’s battery management sensor, the vehicle can experience a loss of power event without providing any warning to the driver. Following a loss of power due to battery failure, the vehicle may be without all 12V accessories including hazard lights and typically will not be able to be restarted. In its March 2024 response to ODI’s information request, Ford provided 367 customer complaints (including field reports, lawsuits, and legal claims) and 1005 warranty claims relating to the alleged defect. When combining ODI and manufacturer failure report data, there are 1,368 unique VINs represented across MY 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles. One of the VOQs submitted to NHTSA reported a minor rear-end collision resulting from a loss of power event. Included within Ford’s complaints were a reported single-vehicle collision and a vehicle fire which occurred following a loss of power event at a traffic light (fire cause and origin was not determined). Additionally, across ODI and manufacturer data, there were 12 allegations of either acid leaking from the 12V battery or smoke emitting from the battery area within the engine compartment. On April 12, 2024, Ford submitted recall 24V267 for MY 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and certain MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles (total population 456,565). The recall remedy provides updated calibrations to the body control module and powertrain control module. Ford indicated that the update will result in improved detection of 12V battery state of charge during drive cycles and will provide notification to the driver if the battery significantly degrades while driving. Additionally, Ford has replaced the EFB with an absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery as both a service component for the subject vehicles and as original equipment for Bronco Sport vehicles with production dates beginning in mid-March 2024. The warranty claim rate for peer vehicles equipped with an AGM battery is substantially lower than that for the subject vehicle population. In view of the recall action being taken by Ford, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
