WE PURCHASED A CARGO TRAILER TO MOVE OUR FURNITURE AND BELONGINGS FROM COVENANT CARGO. THE TRAILER IS RATED FOR 2900 LBS AND WE TOOK TO OUR TRIP SHY OF 2500LBS. IN CT THE AXLE BROKE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE WHEEL SHOT ACROSS 6 LANES OF HIGHWAY. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS HURT AND NO OTHER CARS WERE INVOLVED. IT'S TRUE THAT THE ROADS ARE NOT IN THE BEST OF CONDITIONS BUT THE TRAILER SHOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE CONDITIONS OF I95. THE MANUFACTURER DID SEND US ANOTHER AXLE TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED ON BUT REFUSES TO PAY THE REPAIR AND THE LODGING COST. IT TOOK 9 DAYS TO RECEIVE THE AXLE AND HOTELS AVERAGE $100. THE NEW AXLE DID FARE BETTER BUT HAS AN INADEQUATE SUSPENSION AND THE WHOLE TRAILER FRAME IS BENT AS WELL AS THE WALL FROM THE ACCIDENT. THE MANAGER FROM COVENANT CARGO REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE ME OTHER THAN THE AXLE HE SENT. THE VEHICLE INFO IN YOUR DROP DOWN MENU IS INACCURATE BUT I COULDN'T FIND COVENANT CARGO IN THE CHOICES SO I PICKED IT RANDOMLY. *TR

Aug 2, 2007

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, A MANUFACTURING ERROR IN THE FUEL-WATER SEPARATOR PREHEATER THERMOSWITCH MAY PREVENT THE FUEL PREHEATER FROM TURNING OFF IF THE IGNITION IS LEFT ON. IF THE IGNITION SWITCH IS LEFT ON WHEN FUEL IS ADDED TO THE FUEL- WATER SEPARATOR AT THE FACTORY OR DURING A FILTER ELEMENT CHANGE, A SMALL FLAME MAY OCCUR INSIDE THE FILTER COVER.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR THE FLAME TO SPREAD RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL FILTER DATE CODE AND THERMOSWITCH LOT CODE TO DETERMINE IF THEY CONTAIN THE SUSPECT COMPONENT FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 4, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FREIGHTLINER AT 1-800-547-0712.
